Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Chad Ford/DXpress Twitter:

- Davis Bertans saying in the draft.

- Lucas Noguiera has withdrawn from the draft. Couldn't get a first-round promise. Has been listed at 7'0", measured 6'9" (w/o shoes) at the EuroCamp. The measurements usually taken from the Nike Hoop summit are notoriously inaccurate.

- Nikola Mirotic staying in the draft. Doesn't care if he goes in the second round. Will stay in Europe for three more years. Would have been a top-10 pick if it weren't for contract issues. A good long-term investment if you have money to burn for an additional pick.

- Andrew Albicy has also withdrawn. Batum's buddy and fellow Frenchman.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Like I said, he played 17 mpg in the second best league in the world and put up 6/5/2. He must be doing something right.

29.0 mpg
20.1 ppg
7.40 rpg
FG% .513
3pt% .375

27.6 mpg
18.2 ppg
4.20 rpg
3.0 apg
.597 fg%

31.7 mpg
14.8 ppg
5.1 rpg
4.2 apg
.424 fg%
.355 3pt%

These guys did great in their pro leagues. I'd like them. They could help us a ton

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Glad Bebe pulled out of the draft, I didn't want any part of that. After reading Freeman's article about the overseas guys and how they aren't coming over anytime soon, I'm doubting we go the foreign route this year. Nate wants to win now & Paul wants to win now = Kenneth Faried imo.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Biyombo has nearly identical physical numbers as Dwight at the same *age:

6'8.31" w/o shoes
6'9.5" w/shoes
7'6.16" wingspan
9'3.42" standing reach
245 lbs.

Dwight:

6'9" w/o shoes
6'10.25" w/shoes
7'4.5" wingspan
9'3.5" standing reach
240 lbs.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

DX just released there strengths and weakness video breakdown of Darius Morris.

http://www.draftexpress.com/article/...reakdown-3740/

He's big, but really lacks quickness and explosiveness. Worry about his ability to operate off the ball as he had an Evan Turner type role in college where he handled the ball a ton for Michigan.

I also question his ability to defend pg's, which is important because he isn't close to being a good enough shooter to slide to the 2 and be a combo guard.

I think Nate wanting to win now actually DOES mean drafting a Euro (my guess: Mirotic) so that we don't take up a roster spot with ANOTHER rookie.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Not sure I've met a more interesting draft prospect than Bismack Biyombo in terms of the sheer depth of his thoughts. Incredibly cognitive.

Biyombo's combination of length, athleticism, intensity, aggressiveness and smarts is simply unheard of. Pass on him at your own peril.

That's precisely why you can throw out all the comparisons to African prospects who have come before Bismack Biyombo. Completely different.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Interesting stats from ESPN (Chris Forsberg) on Kenneth Faried:

Faried also led the NCAA in Player Efficiency Rating (PER) during the 2010-11 season. Faried’s PER was 34.77. The average player has a PER of 15 and the second-best PER in his own conference was just 23.2. So, Faried was the most efficient player in the country.

If advanced metrics tell us anything about using collegiate statistics to help project future NBA success, it is that the single statistic most likely to translate to the next level is rebounding. And in Faried’s four seasons at Morehead State, he averaged a rebound every 2.37 minutes, which is the third-highest rebound rate in the last 30 years:

Player -- Mins. per rebound
Shaquille O'Neal, LSU -- 2.25
Keon Clark, UNLV -- 2.26
Kenneth Faried, Morehead -- 2.37

With solid rebounding and the ability to accumulate steals and blocks, the biggest question about Faried is his offense. Faried’s offensive statistics don't jump off the page, averaging 14.8 points per game and shooting 56.9 percent from the field, but these are numbers very comparable to those of Jerome Kersey. The Blazers drafted Kersey with the No. 46 overall pick in the 1984 NBA Draft. Kersey played at Longwood, which was actually Division II back in the early 1980s when he was there. Kersey has statistics remarkably similar to Faried, averaging 57.0 percent from the field, scoring 17 points per game, getting a rebound every 2.6 minutes, and a steal or block every 7.7 minutes.

I'd love Faried, we need a backup 4 who rebounds and locks down the defense part and if we are not bringing Freeland over then he is the best player for that at or around our pick. Imagine a lineup of Crash/Faried/Oden while LMA gets some rest on the bench, will the other team even get a rebound with those three on the floor?

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

NBADraft.net has Biyombo falling all the way to 20, i really doubt that happens, but if it does they need to do everything they can to move up a few spots and get him.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Am I the only one who just doesn't get excited about the draft when we have such a bad pick. I know we can trade up, but whoever we get at that number just won't help us. This happens every season and for what? People were actually predicting Babbitt was going to help us win games. I am not one to say, "I was right, I was right!", but go back and look after we acquired him...... posters on here actually thought he was going to get playing time! Just can't get worked up about a 20 something pick.

That was Mike Barrett.

Are there never any great picks after the lottery picks? There is always a chance we get a good player. I happens every year for at least a few teams that pick in the 20s. The chance is what gets me excited.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

2008 mid-late first round picks: Robin Lopez, Roy Hibbert, JaVale McGee, J.J. Hickson, Courtney Lee, Serge Ibaka, Nicolas Batum, George Hill, Darrell Arthur

2009: Jrue Holiday, Ty Lawson, Jeff Teague, Eric Maynor, Darren Collison, Omri Casspi, Rodrigue Beaubois, Taj Gibson, Toney Douglas

2010: Eric Bledsoe, Jordan Crawford, Greivis Vasquez

Those are all players that I think could have helped our team and they were all drafted from 15-30 in the first round. There actually seems to be a better chance than I thought of getting a pretty good player.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Just listened to DXpress' latest podcast and he isn't a big fan of Jeremy Tyler.

He played in a league that's very weak and played like he's a long way away from being a solid big. Basically he said he's a long-term project that you'll have to teach the game of basketball to -- lacks in the bball-IQ department. We did this once and it took a better part of a decade before he started to produce: Travis Outlaw.

While I don't completely disagree with you, I do think there is a HUGE difference between teaching a big man to rebound and block shots vs other positions. PG is the hardest, then sg/sf then FP, then C.

It is still a long process, but Travis could not shoot a jumper or dribble his first summer league game. (I was there) A center will rarely ever have to dribble or shoot a jumper. So he is already further a long just because of his position.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

As I understand it, Tyler had the 3rd worst body fat% of any player at the NBA combine this year.

After his poor performance overseas, you would think he would be out to make a good impression. In his shoes, wouldn't you at least make the effort to show up in shape?

Something is wrong with this kid. Pass.

chadfordinsider

Word that Valanciunas won't be coming to NBA next year is good news for Enes Kanter & maybe Bismack Biyombo

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Valenciunas will fall no further than Houston, IMO. Biyombo should fall to around where we are. He is not good.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

I'm not saying that Biyambo will BE Ben Wallace, but if you had drafted Ben Wallace at 21 instead of undrafted free agent, he'd still be a helluva pick, right?

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Probballdraft

Talk of some crazy trade offers out there right now...Stay tuned.

mikecranston1

Bobcats discussing moving up in draft, also moving No. 9 pick. Remember have to exercise at least 1 1st rd pick after not having 1 last year

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Kahn would be dumb enough to trade the #2 pick for a 32 y/o Odom.

I doubt it happens.
