Still don’t understand why any fan is going to give a fuck about the in season tournament

its a pretty shit way to drum up some publicity -- itd be better if it was something that happened during summer when basketball typically isnt on, then i may give a shit.... but this aint it, especially when most these dudes make more in half a game if that than i do in a year....

Have to see how the actual structure is, but I really liked the idea.

Silly that 30 teams play all year for only a single thing one team wins and it's usually about 5 teams that have any sort of a chance. Many of the same teams as the last 5 years.

Compare to NFL or March Madness where many teams and unpredictable results can happen.

My position has been that if someone like Atlanta wins the mid season tournament, but either misses the playoffs or gets bounced in the first round, who the fuck is going to give two shits? Giving the players more money doesn’t motivate me to root for Portland to win some bullshit tournament that means NOTHING. Do we get a parade down Sandy Blvd instead of Broadway?

Another tournament is fine as I see it. What I really like is that you will lose access to the MLE for teams with high salaries, now that there is a second apron. They also said they want to had more exceptions for teams below. The article didn’t state any more details but I am interested in finding that out.

I like the crackdown on the circumvention of the luxary tax . What Golden State has been able to get away with is not in the spirit of fairness of the Salary Cap.

NBA is all about playoff and now tourney basketball. Move over March Madness!

In season tourney blows. Just not necessary. I just don't see the value.

The games in the tournament will be regular season games. Will you really not watch because it’s also called a tournament?

It has no history and therefore very little value but I think fifteen years from now people will be differentiating between teams that won both the finals and in season tourney as opposed to just the finals. Just another trophy to get. It's also something for teams to celebrate earlier in the season when games seem like a grind... something to grab the attention of fans.

I'll be excited if we win the first one not like I will be if we win a championship but still pretty fucking happy.

that's not really a substantial crackdown at all. The Warriors have a 193M payroll and DiVincenzo is only making 4.5M. Besides that, the change will be "eased into the salary cap over a period of years". It's a joke

this is the earliest ratification of a new CBA I can remember

what that tells me is that both sides are expecting a massive infusion of revenue in the new media deals in 2025 and don't want to do anything to jeopardize that.

the one provision I'm really interested in is if they agreed to any "smoothing" of the jump in revenue. The players adamantly opposed smoothing in 2016. I'd imagine they would have opposed it again.

if there is no smoothing, 2025 might make 2016 look like a drop in the bucket

Regular season games in fall will be more fun cuz there will be more to play more. That’s the value.
What is the more that fans will care about? This is a serious question. If Portland won 9 straight or lost 9 straight during the tournament, my joy level would be the same if it was not during the tournament. Dame getting another $500k means nothing to me. Dame winning an NBA title is what I care about

You mean like a truck dropping into Evan Turner's swimming pool?

It is April 1st, after all... Great day for the league and player's association to come to a swift agreement.

This..... @KingSpeed never said i wouldnt watch just makes no sense on why its even there in the first place, it legit makes no difference they are just putting lipstick on a pig and calling it sally.

That's your position now.

Will a large group of fans in a decade or so think differently? I'm guessing the NBA is betting yes.

To each....his or her own. I would really enjoy seeing the blazers win 9 straight....and would not enjoy seeing them lose 9 straight.

Your attitude, is yours and is your right. However, the general assumption (not saying you) that fans only care about a championship is not true. It may be for some...or most. A great deal of fans enjoy the journey...no matter the length or challenge.

I probably misspoke. I do it often. What I mean is with or without the in season tournament, my excitement level of 9 wins in a row would be the same. Portland winning 9 games in a row would be just as awesome as them winning 9 games on a row and winning a make believe championship that is worthless

I LOVE the last part of this tweet. I've long thought the proper strategy is to gut your roster to add as much top end talent because you can backfill with buyouts.

Will the new in season tournament help with the load management issues?

Wow! I would hope the players have to be on the NBA team that they invest in and have to liquidate if they are traded or choose to leave via free agency. The gaming/sports gambling thing is a little surprising and weird to me... I don't think I like the idea of a professional athlete basically being a bookie, instant conflict of interests.

What's the conflict? You think if Dame finds out 57% of the money went on his opponent that he'd throw the game? The financial gain would be incredibly small in a scenario like that.

If someone wanted to throw games, they would already be doing it, without the need to water down the profits by owning a share of a sportsbook.

I don’t get this. So if I’m Mark Cuban and I own 100% of the Mavericks, I’m forced to let Kyrie and Luka have equity shares? I’m forced now to be unable to make decisions until those two vote? I’m forced to share my profits with them? What could possibly be in the owners interest?

It says players will have the ability to invest, not that owners are required to sell to them.

I don't like the move, but then, I feel most things that give players more control results in a worse product.
