OT NBA season suspended & NCAA cancelling all sports for coronavirus

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

I have a feeling sports will be out until the start of summer at the earliest.

I only have one big concert coming up that I'd be bummed if it got cancelled (Incubus in July) but other than that as long as this thing gets contained and people are smart about it I'm okay.

I am going to be missing minimum 2 weeks of work now (all paid, thankfully) but I'm already stir crazy and I'm in day 3. lol. Still feeling sick, chills, nausea, and a cough. I have to have 7 days of no symptoms to even go back to work.

The documentaries that are going to come from this pandemic are going to be epic.
Sorry to hear your feeling ill. Take care and your in our thoughts!

I think you could start back up on June 20th and have game 7 of the Finals no later than August 31st.

If that were the case, what would the timeline for the draft, free agency, "summer league", training camp, and preseason look like?

I'm real curious what the league/players are going to do to maximize basketball related income so it doesn't impact their salaries. This season and next season that is.

whatever they do, I bet there’s gonna be big injury problems next season if they do try and slam it all in like that

Shift the league calendar permanently. Draft labor day weekend. Free agency starts September 15. "Fall league" starts on the equinox. Players are off through October/November. Training camp begins after Thanksgiving. Preseason in December. Opening Day on Christmas. Season runs Christmas to...basically when schools get out (2nd week of June).

Miss the majority off the NFL season, make the ASG spring break.

Look what just popped up on my feed. Very similar to yours!

Draft - September 3rd
Free Agency - September 4th
Training Camp - October 8th
Pre-season - October 15th-25th
Opening Night - October 27th

I would hate for a permanent start on Christmas.

Disagree.

You have 3 months off from mid-March to mid-June

Teams that miss the playoffs will have 3 months off between mid-July and mid-October

Finals teams would have almost 1.5 months off (and could load manage during preseason and to start the following season)

All but two teams would have 5 out of 7 months off before the start of next season.

The draft and FA would be pushed to the fall. Summer league would be cancled.

They're millionaires...not like they are hurting

If anyone is sick and you can't get tested for the coronavirus, you can still get tested for the flu if you want to.

If they don't start until mid-June then they would've had over 3 months off and all but a few teams wouldn't have deep playoff runs. I don't think that would be an issue.

Alright, let’s say it starts Mid-late June.

Typically, between June 2020 and April 2021 they’d play 82 games.

Now they’ll play 98 games + playoffs.

Playoffs could start August. Champ in September.

Off for a couple weeks then training camp...

then pre-season

them another 82 + playoffs.

The issue is them having virtually no recovery period between the playoffs and the next season starting.

this assumes they make up the games, don’t just cancel the season, and don’t delay the start of next season.

They’re essentially giving them their off-season now in order to make them play 100+ games in a shorter time period, which doesn’t bode well for injuries, in my opinion.

Disagree.

Yeah, they get to rest now.

But they have to show up for training camp so I’m not sure where mid October comes in to play, so I’d say 2 months off if you’re a non-playoff team.

A finals team could very likely have a month off before training camp.

They usually get 3.

Also, training camp ain’t no walk in the park. It’s a fucking grind. So it’s not like they can just sit it out and not integrate new players and stuff.

Like I said in my previous post though, they’re gonna play 116+ games between June (more realistically July) 2020 and April 2021 if they’re a finals team. Then playoffs for next year on top of that.

This number would usually be 82, in the exact same time span.

There’s no way they can stick with the league calendar in my opinion because of this.

In my opinion that’s like “I’m gonna take a month off from the gym, but then when I come back I’m going to go every day non stop and skip my rest days because I got rest the month before”

doesn’t work like that; in my opinion.

I can't think of anything bad for me personally for a later season. For those going to the games the days will get progressively longer and at some point warmer (anyone know when that happens in Portland? I would guess sometime in January or early February?).

Some german virologist just said on TV that they expect corona virus reach his peak from june to August, in Europe! in America much later

My preferred timeline:

March 12 - June 15: off-season

Mid-June: Draft

Mid-June: Start of FA

End of June: Start of NBA playoffs

Mid-August: NBA Finals

End of August: Summer/Fall League

Mid-October: Training Camp Opens

End of October: Start of NBA season

And we're back basically on normal schedule. Easy!

Anyone think it could help "Portland perception" if they had games here in the summer when the weather is nice? Seems like it might make FA's think hey it's not so bad, and they can do whatever they want in the off-season. During the season they would "live" in a warm but not scorching hot environment.

No Vegas trip for me now. I was staying at Park MGM.
