I'd fight that...the rule is Stack has to wait 30 days...if nobody is breaking a rule than there should be an issue.
If you don't like the rule STERN change it in the offseason.

theres still no official word from david stern , this is a "source" until then i reserve judgement and if its true im sure cuban is goin to fight it or at least stacks agent. Either way it looks more and more like KVH will have to be involved if this deal is to get done. If it wasnt for George the deal wouldve been done wed.

on a side note the mavs r crazy if they think the nets r takin hassells contract, thorn will take a pass and just keep kidd for that matter

The league fucked up by not making an explicit rule about resigning with the same team in the same season. The Mavs and Nets are both playing by the rules as stated.

I agree that buyouts are getting out of hand, but the way to deal with that is by fixing it in the offseason, among a meeting of the owners, not by blocking trades that "violate the spirit of the rules."

Hassell wouldn't be that big of a deal - the Stackhouse buyout would have been a similar cap number, I think.

The real question is whether Cuban would be willing to take the 5.3 million dollar contract (plus 5.3 million dollars more in tax) that comes from resigning Van Horn.

13 million over 3 years. It's a movable piece. Stack would have hit the cap for just two more years at about 5-6 million, depending on what Dallas was going to pay him. There's just the extra season of Hassell.

Because of Harris & his PPP status, the Nets would be cutting tons of money and should be well below the luxury tax. I think they could actually cut Allen, Wright or Armstrong while taking on KVH, & Hassell w/o hitting the luxury tax.

That's why Dallas assured the Nets that he would not hold up the trade in any way.

That's also why I don't care how mad Mark Cuban is (other than hoping he takes it out on George). It was his people that made a clusterfuck out of this.

The Nets are now left with a mess to clean up that they did nothing to create.
