OT NBA star Isaiah Thomas' sister killed in Federal Way I-5 accident

Really sad story. Tragic in that her death would likely have been prevented if she had simply worn her seatbelt.

Irrelevant, but is anyone besides me surprised that the younger sister of an NBA star was driving a 20 year old car?

RIP
first thing I thought

Some rich people want to see their family make it on their own.
My brother's wife's parents have tons of cash. Rental properties up the wazoo. When she was in highschool they let her drive an 86 maxima. She graduated in 1999 and they made her give it back if she didn't want to buy it.

My poor ass family would have given it to her. I guess that's how wealthy people get and stay that way.

Yes and he's not responsible to give new cars to his family.
A 2011 Avalon that is safer than shit would be a million times safer and he wouldn't notice the money from his account. She could have still had to work.

Some rich people want to see their family make it on their own.

Gordon Ramsey came out recently and said exactly that; that he wants his kids to make it on their own. He's not leaving a penny of his fortune to them.

On one hand, I completely understand it, and a part of me even agrees with the reasoning behind it. But on the other hand.....man, that must suck being the offspring of a wealthy person and knowing that you aren't getting a penny of that money.

I long ago decided that if by some miraculous luck I won the lottery one day, I'd give my parents $5 million of it and wish them a happy life. Perhaps it's different giving prize money to your family as opposed to earned money, which you worked hard for.

There could be any number of reasons why Thomas's sister was driving a 20 year old car. And while I'm not suggesting that this was the case for her, it should be a sad note that often times the families of celebrities turn out to be less-than-admirable characters who fleece off the wealth of their loved one. Many are the stories of pro athletes who let their families in on the wealth, and they ended up either being completely irresponsible with the money, or downright criminal with openly stealing it.

I always thought Gordon Ramsey was a true asshole. More proof.

If you want to tell them you aren't giving them anything so they don't expect it, fine. Otherwise why have the money? Give it to charity now, you too Warren Buffett.

Meanwhile, he added his children don’t sit with them in first class on family holidays as they “haven’t worked hard enough” to afford it yet.

He said: “I turn left with Tana and they turn right and I say to the chief stewardess, ‘Make sure those little f--kers don’t come anywhere near us, I want to sleep on this plane.’ I worked my f--king ass off to sit that close to the pilot and you appreciate it more when you’ve grafted for it.”

LOL, wow. You might be right about the "asshole" part.

Will be interesting to see how he plays. Could totally see how this could wreck his play but also wondering if he will go out there and put on a show for his sister type mentality

How much money did he make this year? How much did he pay in taxes? How much did he pay his agent? Now divide that by the 40 years he hopes to live after his NBA career and that's how much money he has and he would notice the money for a new car leave his account. Unless he just wants to go broke 5 years after he retires.

very sad news, its always tough to see young life gone, condolences to Isaih and his family

I for one believe destiny is written for all of us, so this was hers
so I really dont see the point arguing about seat belt

Yeah right why fasten my seatbelt at all if all is written ? If I have to die I will die anyways !
Starting today I'll also stop watching for cars when I cross the road and turning off the gas when I leave home, since nothing matters.

you misunderstood my comment completely

you can do whatever you want to keep yourself safe, its in human nature, but when your time comes, you cant avoid it, and ofc we can argue about this, but theres no rules really when it comes to death

25 years ago I picked my girlfriend up from her house out in the middle of Wyoming. I lived a few miles up the road across the railroad tracks.

It was pitch black and the train crossing lights came on. I looked both ways and saw nothing. I told her there was something wrong and was about to drive around. Then I just figured that I should look again.

I let off the gas and just as I was turning to look again....WHOOSH there goes an Amtrak train at top speed. Somewhere around 80 I think they go.

It would have been instant death. And stupid just like not wearing a seatbelt.

I found a 2011 Avalon that I mentioned (not a new car) for 14 grand.

I could have bought her one and I would certainly notice it but I didn't make 6 million and something this year.

I'm not saying he should be Antoine Walker and blow every penny before he is 40 and I don't know how close they were and how much family he has.

I have close family and I can guarantee you if I made that type of money I'd buy them decent stuff. Doesn't have to be Jaguars.

We had a Ford Raptor towed in that looked like it got hit by a garbage truck. We were sure the owner was dead or on life support. The owner was a small woman who woke up in the hospital. She said all she could remember was a small car barreling towards her. I actually googled a vehicle fatality in Las Vegas before we found out she was alive.

you remember that double semi crash in oregon that crushed the chevy truck and the guy walked away with a couple band aids? freaking miraculous.

Sad. I know that area like the back of my hand. Used to live In live in the rbc apartments and deliver pizzas around there.
Wonder if she fell asleep. I fell asleep at the wheel once on the job delivering newspapers when I was 20 years old working a second graveyard job. Totaled my truck, but I was fine.
As tragic as it is, it's also unfortunate that he will probably miss the first couple of games. If not the series. Boston is one team I think could take the cavs. But they need to get there first.

It's easy to dismiss this theory as "stupid", but then again: why now? this accident happened at a very specific point in time...

(I'm not saying the universe is doing everything it can to give a championship to Lebron or something like that. That's super idiotic).

Very possibly happened because it was late, she was tired, and not wearing seat belt. No mysticism needed. Terrible.

She fell asleep otw to work. My ex is friends with the family and got the details. I met Isaiah Sr a few years ago and he was a super cool guy. Tragedy, needless to say. I read that IT is staying in bean town to play, but we'll see. Just brutal news.

No seatbelt apparently
Who told the family she fell asleep?

So I had it backwards, apparently she fell asleep on the way home from work. It adds up because of her work schedule and the direction she was headed. No one actually saw her fall asleep, but this is the assumption, again, based on her work schedule. It is just an assumption, I'll admit, but I have no reason to believe otherwise.

It sucks that the Thomas family has to go through this tragedy.

I still can't fathom how, in 2017, people still aren't wearing seat belts and motorcycle helmets. so many preventable deaths.

Or bicycle helmets.... holy shit, I see so many people riding downtown without a helmet on.
