The problem with the NBA rivalries stems from AAU, all the guys know each other from an early age.
We also remember rivelries as more then they actually were. It made for more intense games and the fans sure got into it but the players still hugged and shook hands most of the time.

LeBron vs Bulls is a good rivalry. I think they genuinely hate each other.

I wonder how much more cap space the NBA will give teams next year?

Pretty good article (long)

"Teams that have planned carefully for cap flexibility will be unhappy when other teams simply luck into it. The players union has to look out for its entire membership, and a single-year mega-leap would benefit one slice of that membership at the expense of everyone else"

I do not see it helping the Blazers. I see it speeding up the rebuilding process for the Lakers.

The league needs to use this money to expand.

I would really love to see teams in Seattle, Vancouver BC and Vegas.

They don't need money to expand. They make more money when they expand. But it dilutes the product. Plus with the expanded salary cap, teams can pay more money and become deeper. More teams is a bad idea IMO.

Unless the Blazers are already in contention and have way more space to get a big time free agent

I only glossed over it the first time through. That's some big money. I don't see how the teams can operate in the red any longer with this deal.

Ha ha ha!! You believed that? The lying owners wouldn't even show their financial statements! We were supposed to take their word that they were losing money.

Even without the new TV deal, the owners would be making record profits...because of the suckers who fell for their line in the last CBA. You pro-wealthy anti-union guys know who you are. We argued and argued about it.

That's right, the cap jumped 7.5 percent for 2014-15, indicating that the league has been making more money that expected under the 2011 CBA even before the lucrative new TV deals were finalized.

How will networks fund this? Your cable/satellite monthly bill will go up.

Advertisement? Expect more commercials.

I think there are more and more people who are ditching cable and going with Internet/Netflix/Hulu/Amazon for a lot less money and more convenience. However, the one thing that those services have difficulty providing is live events, especially live ones that are exclusive, like NBA, nfl, etc. so the cable companies will spend much more of their funds on sports networks as a way try and keep more customers from leaving. If espn chooses to make everything available online (for a fee) instead of only on TV, I know that would be the last of my cable bill. I Have no need for the WB or NBC normal programming.

Glad my season tickets went up 45% in price this year - the NBA clearly needs more of my money.

They do milk the cow, which is understandable. However this deal has everything to do with how our over consumerism allows companies to spend millions on advertisements, thus increasing the desire to show games for great revenue.
