Re: NBA trade rumors

Baxter Holmes: Ainge: "There’s been many, many guys we’ve passed on. Our medical staff told us to pass on Greg Oden... [& on] Brandon Roy."

Ouch (X2)

It infuriates me to no end hearing all of these teams saying this. So many teams have said they were told to pass on Oden. What the fuck did we not see or care about?

Re: NBA trade rumors

I never believe it when teams come out after someones had a career threatening/ending/recurring injury and say "we knew it so we didn't want him". Saying shit after its happened means nothing.

A lot of teams said this at the time as well....regarding Oden

Boston also has no dog in the Oden fight, so there is no reason for Ainge just to say that if it weren't true

Agreed. Not everyone was on the Oden bandwagon just because the majority were. There were several medical reports that indicated questionable longevity with both Oden and Roy.

Let's get back to talking about the trade rumors.

Chill. Ainge doesn't say he wouldn't have drafted Oden. Only that his medical team told him not to. I think Doc Rivers' quote is a much better indicator as to who they would have drafted. Revisionist history is just that.

“Even though everybody changes now, we were all for Oden,’’ said Rivers after a brief practice on Thursday afternoon. “I think 98 percent of the league (was). Now I hear it all over, our staff, I hear it everywhere. ‘Oh, no, we were Durant guys.’ I don’t believe that. I think we would have drafted Oden.’’

Re: NBA trade rumors

there was a lot of bitterness out here for the celtics not doing better in the lotto that year also, half my buddies were pissed off that portland/seattle moved up.

and a lot of joy whenever oden got injured

Re: NBA trade rumors

With Melo reportedly opting out, Chicago will have to dump some salary. Even if they amnesty Boozer, they will have to get rid of a lot more besides that.

A lot more? Not really. They only have rose, Noah, butler, Gibson, Snell, dunleavy and Greg smith under contract. Move dunleavy or Gibson with one of their first rounders and trade the other for a future first. Problem solved.

Just giving up Gibson along with a 1st rounder would be a lot for many Chicago fans....Dunleavy not so much. However, if it gets them Melo I'm sure they'd be okay with that. :D

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine 44s
Suns' Channing Frye has 'til Monday to decide to play next season at $6.8 mil w/PHX or opt out. Source: "99 percent" he chooses free agency

Any interest in bringing him back? Just think what he could do in the current offense.

Re: NBA trade rumors

The Bucks roster is on the block.

John Henson is just what the doctor ordered.

I am very interested.

Re: NBA trade rumors

Yes please to Frye. Use the mle to sign him. Then resign Mo, or use the biannual exception on a backup Pg such as Blake

Re: NBA trade rumors

Absolutely no to Frye. D Damn fense is what we need. John Henson would be a Godsend.

While Henson can block some shots I thought I remember reading (not sure) he really is not that good of an overall defender

Re: NBA trade rumors

We have scorers. We need defenders.

No we need our scorers to defend. Having some guy off the bench who can play D won't help much. We need the whole team, specifically the starters, to defend better. We need better schemes, a better mindset, and a better effort. One guy off the bench doesn't help that much.

Agreed. Which is why I love a guy like Frye. A dependable scorer off the bench at a big position

Re: NBA trade rumors

Not sure where you read that.

MM, I honestly have barely seem him play, are there stats that support that he is a good defender? blocking shots is nice but there is much more to it than that

Re: NBA trade rumors

Can we just take the draft back and give the Bucks Leonard while we take the guy we probably should have taken in Henson? Fat chance.

I would stay away from Frye. I'd rather be giving minutes to T-Rob.

I seriously hope we aren't relegated to rumors of bench players all summer. There are some big players in the free agent market about to hit including Dirk, Bosh and Melo. No, we don't have cap space but that shouldn't stop us from improving the team. Neil needs to be talking with their agents to gauge interest. If there is, I'm sure we can figure a sign and trade.

I still like Wes/Batum, CJ and change for Melo.

I've seen him play a ton.

Not sure they "support" good defense claim, but he is second on his team behind Larry Sanders in Defensive rating and 1st by a ton in defensive win shares. He had a +1.9 PER vs his opponent

Re: NBA trade rumors

I must be worse at this player acquisition and contract stuff than I thought. Why is Frye going to give up $7million to play in Portland for $5million?

And I'm not interested besides.

Yeah, I actually thought of that as a possibility. Maybe he thinks he's going to suck this year and play himself out of a decent contract. ;)

Or maybe he wants to play for a contending team?
