Exclusive NBA Trade Deadline Thread 2024

There was some Deandre to Dallas noise last summer, fwiw.
At this point, if they took Ayton off our hands, we'd throw in Jerami for free. Trouble is, all their salary is in Luka and Kyrie and they couldn't match salaries. And the next few after that are really yuk:

I guess I could talk myself into Williams and Kleber but fuck off with Hardaway and Holmes.

Here's a challenge: Identify teams that could really use:
Jerami
Malcolm
Ayton
Anfernee

Never mind if they can offer us anything - just if you were God and wanted to put those players in the best place for them and their new teams.

I always just act like God because the CBA is frustrating.

The Mavs are indeed a good team to hate. Could also try to fleece them for as much as possible. How many picks they got?
They owe their '24 and their '29, so we can only get their '26 from them outright

Off the top of my head:

Jerami - Mavs & Kings
Malcolm - NYK & Heat
Ayton - Blazers
Anfernee - Blazers

Almost every playoff contender could use Jerami.....if they didn't have to worry about giving up value.
The Lakers would love to get him.

I would add New Orleans for teams that should want Malcolm

after watching Spencer loaf around in 2 Blazer games this season, I agree to agree with this tweet.

Brogdon has played two good games against the Nets this year. I still think he fits in with Brooklyn perfectly.
And I still would take Dinwiddie's expiring contract to land Clowney.

Brogdon to Philadelphia
Jeremy to New York Knicks
Thyble to Philadelphia as well
Aton to Dallas (well, before the year started, since he’s been here, I think he’s tanked his value)
Ant-He’s not going anywhere, he’s our Dame replacement, unless someone offered something outrageous, we need him right here. We just need to draft some taller guards and wings to offset his size disadvantage. He’s the closest thing to Dame that we will see.

I was more interested in Clowney at the beginning of the season. Now, I think I’d rather have a pick.

I think I’d rather have forwards who have some kind of point-forward capabilities. Like maybe drafting Cody this year and drafting a forward at the top of the draft next year. Between Camara and Walker, I think we have good enough hustle guys at PF. I don’t see Clowney as a PF of the future or anything like that.

I'm not shitting on a win. I love it when our team wins but what the fuck are we actually doing here. We have two guys who could be very good 4th or 5th best players on a championship team in Jerami and Malcolm but them winning us games right now limits our opportunities to get championship level guys in the draft and neither seem like they will be at this level when guys like Shaedon, Toumani, Scoot, Jabari, Kris, Rayan, etc. will be ready to contribute at their best to a championship.

A while ago Joe said that we weren't interested in playoff series wins, we want championships. Either we trade for a superstar 2 or 4 and an elite starting 2 or 4 or we should just trade both Malcolm and Jerami before they get us more wins. They're not good enough to get this team meaningful wins (championships) and they're too damn good for us to have on a team that's trying to get the best draft position possible.

What the fuck are we doing? Are we trying to tread water in the mid lotto as opposed to treading water in the first round of the playoffs?

So Simons is our Dame which means he’s our franchise player? Isn’t that what we drafted Scoot for and where does that put Sharpe? Who leads this Blazers team anyway?

I want Shaedon to be looked at as the most promising prospect on the team. I think the best compliment to him currently on the squad in the back court would be Scoot. I like Toumani, Jabari, Kris and Rayan as complementary role players on the same timeline. I think we need to trade and draft the rest of a rotation that makes sense around these guys and at least one of them needs to have superstar potential.

That means I would be in favor of trading anyone with value that isn't in that group. That would mean that I want Ant, Jerami, Malcolm, Deandre and Matisse traded as soon as possible for the best prospects and draft picks possible. We could even take on bad contracts since this group won't be at it's most competitive for several seasons.

I think so many fans of this team don't have the stomach to endure the losses it takes for small market teams to get great but we have the value in win now players and current draft picks to do this rebuild correctly but wanting to build around guys like Jerami, Ant and Malcolm will end up in worse results than building around Dame and CJ. We really need drastic action and due to earlier trade deadlines, I believe Joe is capable of getting us on the right path.

The Blazers also already have 19-year-old Rayan Rupert who has been handling the ball, even coast-to-coast sometimes, with the G League. He's 6' 7" with a 7' 2" wingspan.
In the last game he shot 3-3 on 3-pointers.
He was drafted for his defense and potential on offense, which was very raw.

I wish the Blazers would commit to rebuilding and give meaninful minutes to guys like Rupert and Kris Murray. They could make a jump to being productive rotation players in the mold of Jabari Walker.

Rupert should be called up. Let's see what he can do.

This is the other thing keeping guys like Jerami and even Malcolm is preventing. Even keeping Ant is preventing this because although he is young Ant is a player who as a second scorer/playmaker on a team of elite defenders would be a good third best player right now and a great fourth best player, on a team contending.

I don't know if Rayan would get regular rotation minutes (meaning more than 20) but he'd be getting minutes in the teens every game and Kris would be getting heavy rotation minutes.

Blazers are 4-15 with Ant; they are 8-14 without him. There was plenty of evidence that Dame made his team, and teammates better. There is no evidence that Ant does

and yes, I know there could be a lot of factors at work in those with/without numbers, but a half season is a pretty solid sample size

Blazers appear to have renewed the parking pass in the Olshey-dead-end-cul-de-sac of straddling incompatible fences

maybe it's all facade and Cronin will prove me wrong and trade some vets at the deadline. But I've been thinking all along that he had no intention of trading Grant unless a ridiculous deal is offered; and the Nurkic for Ayton trade was fence-straddling 101

Laker fans want Donovan Mitchell. Cleveland is 4th in the East, that's home court advantage. Sounds like a great plan to discect a winning Cavs team so LA. can quit stinking up the league.

I vote hard no.

Anyway, I can talk you into a soft no?

I know, it's just one game, but last night in 25 minutes.....Precious shot 90% (9-10) with 11 rebounds.
6'8" 243 lbs with a lot of energy is something we don't have
