The Portland Trail Blazers nearly acquired Jahlil Okafor from the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this season. The supposed deal reportedly forced the Sixers to bench Okafor in one of their games last week but the trade did not push through.

In recent NBA trade news, the Trail Blazers acquired Jusuf Nurkic and a 2017 first round pick from the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets acquired Portland’s veteran Mason Plumlee and a 2018 second round pick. This means that the talked about Okafor to Portland deal is now off.

Almost NBA trade between Sixers, Trail Blazers involving Jahlil Okafor
“The 76ers pulled Jahlil Okafor from their lineup last week because a deal with Portland for the center was close to happening, per league sources,” David Aldridge of NBA.com recently posted on Twitter. “The Blazers, however, decided instead to do a trade with Denver for Jusuf Nurkic and a 2017 first-round pick, giving Portland three 2017 firsts.”

Okafor is also involved in another trade with the New Orleans Pelicans. The Sixers big man was benched in two games last week in anticipation of a trade though it was not clear where he was going. The NBA trade news involving Portland now confirms that Philadelphia was very active in trying to deal their big man last week.

Okafor’s name remains on the trading block with the NBA trade deadline on February 23. Nothing has changed in Philadelphia and the Sixers are still looking for deals involving Okafor and another big man, Nerlens Noel.

The Sixers have suffered from the injury bug again this season. Joel Embiid is once again out and it’s not clear when he will return. Australian forward Ben Simmons is out as well and it’s also not clear if he can play this season. With injuries to Embiid and Simmons, there is a chance that the Sixers won’t make a deal before the deadline.

NBA Trade News: Expect deals before Thursday deadline
Okafor is signed until the 2017-2018 NBA Season. So the Sixers can wait until next year to move him. But, his value might go down. Noel have an expiring contract this year and will become a free agent after the season.

The Trail Blazers probably valued the pick from Denver more than what Philadelphia offered. The Sixers are not letting go of any future picks since they also want young prospects in for their rebuilding process.

Jahlil Okafor or Nerlens Noel can still be moved before Thursday. With NBA executives in New Orleans for the All-Star Weekend, there is a good chance the general managers are still talking about possible trades.

I'm happy with the Nurkic trade.

Okafor is an interesting player with a great body with a higher ceiling than Nurkic. However, when you factor in risk and defense I'm happy with Nurkic. Even if he didn't come with a pick he is much more likely to help the Blazers than okafor.

Do you think either could stick with the average power forward or are you thinking starter and backup?

I would rather see Nurk/Noel.

Nurk looked pretty quick.

So sure, why not.

Okay, so how do you embed the trade machine link in the post?

I think you just copy and paste the URL. I'm not sure you can actually embed the graphic.

Edit: Click Save trade to get the URL.

Thanks, Yeah, I did that. I was thinking that I had seen the trade actually embedded in the post, but I guess I was wrong.

So...why didn't we deal for him again??? And why are some of you luke warm on him? He just a made a move in a highlight that blew me away.

The dude has got game. If he was able to be had for a package we offering similar Nurkic, we probably should have took it.

This deal was smokescreen for the Nurkić deal. Neil PLAYED Coangelo.

:biglaugh::biglaugh: :biglaugh:

Sure Dviss... The only person or PERSONS Neil is fooling are those in this forum and the owner. But that doesn't take much.

Bottomline...he doesn't have a plan and If he did, it was desimated a long time ago.

I think has more to do with Portland wanting to shoot for the 8th seed than anything.
With Turner+Aminu's injury the trade for Okafor would have been similar to a trade @BonesJones put out there.
Harkless + pick for Okafor.
Without Harkless Portland would then be relying heavily on Layman until Turner was healthy. I don't think they wanted to do that.
Although I acquiring Okafor would have been the best move for the team.

He'll be back on the table come draft night. We'll get him then! You think Neil's giving up this easy? Think again!!
