NBA’s Best/Worst Case 2015-16 Cap Projections

Wouldn't we have to renounce Matthews, Lopez and all other free agents in order to get 39 mil free?

I'm curious what it would be like if we resigned Lopez, Aldridge and Matthews?

And if all signed, would we have MLE available? I mean we would technically be under cap, then over if we resigned all players on our roster. Now if we have MLE available because the "under cap restriction" would count after you sign all your players, then I'm fine keeping the team in tact and signing another MLE player

I believe this is Olshey's plan when he declined TRob's option. Keep the team intact and a sign a player to the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception.

We simply won't have any space. Aldridge alone will probably get around 20 million a year. Rolo will probably get in the 12 million a year range. Wes will probably get 12-14 million a year. That's all the space right there.

The only advantage is that Neil COULD reach out to someone like Gasol and offer him max money before extending Aldridge. It would cost us Wes and Rolo though.

Does anyone know what the cap hold is on those guys?

I thought cap holds are 125% of the previous contract. I maybe wrong though.

Whatever the case, my question pertains to keeping the MLE. If we resign every player and go over cap, will we still have MLE?

We'll have something. Brian is the cap guy around here.

This answers the question. It looks like all three would be 150% cap hold.

I know if we are under cap, we don't get MLE, but I don't know if that's before or after we resign our current players. I would suspect it wouldn't matter because our cap holds would have us over cap anyway. Only way we get under cap is when we start renouncing any rights.

So based on the 150% cap hold (and Hoopshype's list of our salaries)

Aldridge - 15.2 million salary (22.8 million hold)
Matthews - 7,245,640 salary (10.9 million hold)
Lopez - 5,340,229 salary (8 million hold)

Rolo and Wes might be below the expected salary though. I'm not sure how you find that out. In which case their hold would jump to 190%.

This should help you with that:

Matthews is above and Rolo is estimated to be barely below the average.

So what's probably the decision will be based on how we fare this season. If Olshey is pleased with the progress, then I suspect him resigning all existing players, then offer a MLE to another vet.

If he is disappointed with the season, then I think he renounces Lopez and other free agents, then go for gold with Gasol

Well unfortunately that "barely below" brings him up to 190% which would increase his hold significantly. Either way we're going to be over the cap with those three guys, so unless Neil feels confident he can land a big fish, I don't see us making a splash this summer. Honestly, I'll be happy if he can just bring back our core without losing anyone.

Mags, yes, we would have the full MLE to use. However, if we renounced players to actually use our cap space, on someone like Marc, then we would not have the full MLE, but the cap space exception, which is like 3 million or something.

In other words, let's fucking win this whole damn thing!

I would love to throw the entire MLE at Danny Green. I think that guy would be fucking awesome here.

If that was a possibility, I would call that a home run

Someone is going to throw some money at him. I don't see how San Antonio is going to be able to keep all their guys. Virtually their entire core is a free agent. Duncan, Ginobili, Leonard, Green, etc.
