OT The NBA Players Union Just Announced It's Ready To Make War On Owners

Starting their own league will never work. Players will start backing out soon as they realize they have to start putting up their own money to secure arenas, refs, game day staff, coaches, trainers, front office, day to day staff, etc. Then they will look for a backer... and... OOPS, we have owners again.

Sure you may be able to find a backer (owner) who will let the players keep the majority of the proceeds. But IF that league takes off, soon as the first CBA negotiations come up, it will all start over.

You have to remember, majority of players have a very small window of being able to make good money. They don't have the luxury to wait 5-10 years to see a positive return on their investment of a new league.

The most important part of all this. Owners were billionaires then bought basketball teams. Players are millionaires BECAUSE of the league. If there is no NBA, owners will still be billionaires.

Why should the players have to wait to earn their share of the revenues that the owners are already entitled to?

Anyone who thinks a soothing policy is fair - you send me $1,000 now and I'll give you that $1,000 back this time next year.
In the smoothing proposal, the players are getting a portion of their big money influx a year earlier. Not sure why you think it screws the players over... but whatever.

This lockout may put an end to my NBA fandom. I am quickly loosing sympathy for either side of the argument. The NFL has already driven me away. The NCAA is trying their best to drive me away... and it looks like the NBA is trying to follow suit. :beatinto:

It may be time for me to find a new hobby and mode of entertainment.

For a little perspective on a Players League, wiki Federal League in pro baseball. Good luck guys.
