Since 1997-98, listed in order

Ryan Perriman 12.2
Ian McGinnis 12.0
Darren Phillip 14.0
Chris Marcus 12.1
Jeremy Bishop 12.0
Brandon Hunter 12.6
Paul Millsap 12.5
Paul Millsap 12.4
Paul Millsap 13.4
Rashard Jones-Jennings 13.1
Michael Beasely 12.4
Blake Griffin 14.4
Artsiom Parakhouski 13.4
Kenneth Faried 14.5

The part that stands out to me is that out of the names I recognize, only Griffin is an elite NBA rebounder. Of course, he was the #1 pick, and other than Beasely, the rest were well out of the lottery, or were busts if they were picked.

Only reason Faried went as high as he did is because of this draft was so damn shitty. He's a 4-year player and a backup at best, just like Nolan Smith.

The blazers are dummiez!

Looking at Millsap, I have to wonder how the "rebounding translates to the NBA" mantra can be true?

Millsap has averaged 9.3 rebounds/36 in the NBA, which while OK, certainly isn't what you'd expect from a 3-time NCAA rebounding champ.

Plus, Millsap has 2" on Faried, plus 30 lbs.

Oh, and at least Nelson produced in arguably the toughest conference in the NCAA

Faried is so much better!

At least Smith has NBA size for his position.

Can a 6'7" 225 lb. guy be an elite NBA rebounder?

yes, yes they can

not saying faried will though

Faried has an inch on Charles Barkley.

And yes, I am saying Faried will be slightly better than Barkley.

Wow. The "I wanna have Nolan Smith's Baby!" silliness is in full swing.

On a contending team looking for a 15th man, it would be kind of precious. On a team that is in serious need of help......somehow, it loses its charm.

Faried has an inch on Charles Barkley.

Wow, the Blazers just passed on the next Barkley/Rodman to draft a guy who is the worst projected WARP player in the draft.

What a blunder!! :MARIS61:

Well, hopefully it wasn't a blunder. Cunningham and Pendergraph over Blair was a blunder. I'm not optimistic on this pick.

That said, I'll wait and see and hope for the best. Maybe the people comparing Smith to Collison will prove to be right, which would be cool.

Blair got benched against Memphis and had a 9.3 PER for the series. Cunningham was the only active player in the Wallace trade.

Blair still can't defend his own shadow, and Memphis abused the poor chap.

That's cool. Blair has been good for two seasons while Cunningham has been a step up from useless overall and Pendergraph has been useless. I'll take the guy who's been good most of his NBA career and had a poor playoffs, to the guy(s) who just aren't good. If your opinion is "If you're not a star, you're equal to Cunningham/Pendergraph" we'll have to agree to disagree. :)

Cunningham had a 14.3 PER his rookie year when he had a role.

Blair just got his minutes replaced by Kawhi Leonard.

Arguing about these two middling players is irrelevant, IMO.

Neither has proven anything in terms of winning in the NBA.

The fascination with undersized PFs by some of you perplexes me.

Not really.

PM: 6'6.25"
KF: 6'6"

PM: 6'7.25" w/shoes
KF: 6'7.5" w/shoes

PM: 8'9.5" standing reach
KF: 9'0" standing reach

I don't think Faried will have trouble rebounding the ball. He's a specialty player -- rebounding/shotblocking. He's not going to score like Milsap, not even close.

Yeah, especially since it's not really much of an argument. Blair has been consistently and significantly better. He wouldn't have changed the franchise, but he'd have made the team a little bit better. Plus, the team could have had both him and Cunningham. They passed on him twice in the second round.

You can't win them all. Hopefully the Blazers win one, in the draft, sometime soon.

Blair was so good that Pop benched him in the playoffs as his #1 seed lost to a #8 seed that doesn't play defense, and then traded away his back-up PG for another undersized 3/4 combo.

Blair is awesome.

He's kind of a once in a generation type player. I think Faried is much closer to Reggie Evans.

No doubt.

If Faried is the next Dennis Rodman, who is a Hall of Famer, then not only Portland botched that pick, but almost every other team in the lottery botched that pick.

If you think Blair is awesome, I have to question your basketball analysis. He's really not awesome.

He's just significantly better than Cunningham and much, much better than Pendergraph.

He was so much better he got benched in the playoffs agaisnt an 8-seed. Meanwhile, Cunningham had a 24.8 PER against PHX in the playoffs, and should have played more, IMO.

As I said, it's an irrelevant argument.

Bench player vs. bench player, and Blair looks to have his minutes cut next season.

Rodman was an enigma that was taken in the 2nd round. How many 6'6" PF's have led the league in rebounding since?

I'm too lazy to look it up but wasn't Barkley close?

Regardless, it doesn't matter, Faried is Denver's guy now.

Barkley was great because he was great offensive player.

The more I think about it, the more Faried reminds me of Renaldo Balkman.

He never led the league in total rebounds...second was the highest he ranked. He did lead the league in offensive rebounds three times.

Danny Fortson led the league in Rebound Rate once, and he was 6'7''.
