It's getting tiresome and it is disguised as "being realistic." The worst, though, is the way players on our team are SLAMMED during game threads. Aminu was our only guy shooting well in the first half yesterday and he had a block and grabbed big rebounds but all everyone typed was about how bad he was. The dude personally won a playoff game for us in the last round! I went to Game 6 and it was wonderful. 20,000 people rooting FOR our team, CHEERING when our players score.

Sinobas and Tunchi are probably the worst but everyone tends to join in, overreacting to any "bad" thing our team does. I read the Game 6 thread when I got home and the posts were mostly negative even though it was only the 2nd time in 16 years that we've won a playoff series.

I think I'm going to take a step back. Some people may be happy with that because they are turned off by my positivity.

Enjoy the rest of the playoffs, guys and Vanilla Gorilla, riverman, and Orion Bailey, keep up the good fight. Maybe I'll come back after this series, I don't know.

When I was in my self-imposed posting exile, I had nobody on ignore, and couldn't respond to any posts... so I had to read everyone's opinions. Yours were the most entertaining, intense, and positive. Step back if you must, but please don't step back too far.

I pledge my keyboard to help in your stead.

It's not easy bringing hope to a message board like this. I encourage you to stick it out, don't let the party poopers win. We need your super homer, yet very realistic optimism and predictions!

Hell, I wasn't even on the thread yesterday (was camping!). So I can't take any of the blame? Anyway, I appreciate all you posters, negative, realistic or positive!
He didn't like me bad mouthing Aminu.

My bad.

I don't think I'm a negative poster though. Am I (he asked rhetorically)?

I was tempted to start a thread on this issue. I get being angry that the team isn't performing as well as we would like at times and that individual players have struggled. That said, people really need to be a bit more objective about this team. By almost every metric, compared with what was "realistically" expected coming into the season, the Blazers have dramatically overachieved. We fans can get sucked into the excitement of that, but this team is young, not playoff experienced, and (most of all) is not complete from a roster standpoint. The opposition has had the luxury of only having to game for two consistent scorers. The Blazers have played the Clippers and now the Warriors; both teams known for the excellent defense they play. They're coached by two of the best coaches in the game and, especially in Kerr's case, they've had the luxury of plenty of time to think about how to defend Lillard and CJ. Calling these guys "garbage", as some of you have, is absurd. In some cases, this has been by posters for whom this is a typical shtick. Others of you, well, I'll just say that these kinds of posts make me lose respect.

Im not sure what 1st quarter you were watching but aminu a was by far the worst player in the floor.
Yes... He made some shots but when they are leaving you WIDE and I mean WIDE open you better hit at least half or you belong in the d league.
I was mind blown he wasn't taken out earlier

Wait There's more. We love Crabbe too. Especially his timely shots and hair arrangement

Yeah I definitely get pissed off at the team in game threads, but I don't try to couch it in the "sorry but it's the TRUTH" language of realists.

I thought I was the better fan because I said the Blazers would sweep. Guess I'm wrong.

King. You have been away from the negative OR/WA I-5 corridor too long. Negative thinkers are who they have become here. They want to tear everything down that is good, and then call it making progress.

This area used to have one of the highest standards of living in the country (35 years ago). Thanks to negative tunnel vision thinkers, this area has declined to have a much lower standard of living, very low in some areas.

People that travel a lot, or have lived recently in other areas of the country, like you, can see it. It is not easy to understand how so many people get caught up in their own self destructive negative thinking, while being so blind to it.

Do not let the negative thinkers get to you.

KingSpeed, to be fair, there is a fine line between being positive and optimistic and just being purposefully annoying with ignoring the reality of the situation. Your messages of "don't worry, we got this", "they can't defend us", "they are scared of us", "Blazers 100% going to win even though they are down 20 at half"... they just reflect a different frame of reality. Like you aren't watching the same game the rest of us are. Everyone on here roots for and wants the Blazers to win. Badly. And when it's just not going well for the team, focusing on the positives, like Aminu's second half shooting, Dame's 30 points while sick, Ed Davis doing work on defense, and the fact that, if not for the first quarter, the Blazers hung with the world champs but just couldn't break through that 8-12 point deficit to make the game interesting, is good and bodes well for Game 2. But damn, man, you gotta be real. Portland got thumped last night. But it's one game. Stotts is a master adjuster. He'll have some type of plan for Game 2, I am sure.

I agree the game threads suck, and I think a little positivity goes a long way.

I might have shitposted in that game thread yesterday, so my bad if I contributed. But I also was one of those 20k as you know! I'm usually positive, sometimes people just get frustrated and that is how they vent.

I've definitely had times where I've checked out of game threads for stretches of time. And there are some people who I just expect to be negative.

Do what you gotta do, and come back soon.

You're taking too much of it to a personal level. People are going to express their opines in many ways. Some of it will be positive and some of it will be negative. Focus of whatever you need so it doesn't bother you. After all, do you want people telling you how you can post?

I can't speak for Kingspeed, but I take this team very personally; it's the first thing I latched onto as a kid, a loyalty that was mine. I keep it close and unreasonable. When people say a player IS garbage, I take it personally.

I wouldn't mind a philosophy that protected the players of the team as if they were posters: maybe the play was garbage, and you could say "he fucked up there", but calling a player personally garbage should be treated as if you called a poster garbage. But I know that limits some posters a lot, because calling players insulting names is their stock and trade.

Loyalty to the team is great. You have something to latch onto and root for. But you aren't going to change the majority of the posters and the way they communicate.

Pick and choose what you want to read and move on. I think of it as like a salad bar. I choose what I like and leave the rest.

Did you just make a Big Trouble In Little China reference?

For real: I make plenty of positive posts about the players. My positive to negative post ratio has to be at least 10:1. I had nothing but good things to say about Crabbe and Harkless. I even made positive comments about parts of Aminu's overall game. I think I have the right to observe when a starter on a playoff team I love is destroying us with repeated clueless play and comically bad shooting. It's part of being a fan. I mean King was upset some of us were saying we thought one Blazer was better than another. Come on.

King has his own reasons for reacting the way he does to the negative stuff, but for me (and I think a lot of folks) there's a line between the player and the act that sometimes gets blurred, and that's when threads like the game thread piss me off.

Some of you guys can try to rationalize it all you want. The truth is, the negative comments, especially those in game threads, are read by the players. At some point, all of the negative talk DOES have an affect on the players.

Think of it this way, some of you have jobs, maybe.
Would you like to keep getting negative messages from a bunch of outsiders that you do not know, or can see? Or more important, getting negative messages from people that do not know you? Would you like to read they want you gone from your job because of how bad you are at some part of your job?

Only post comments you would say to the player in person. Constructive criticism can be useful, if done correctly. But it can also be harmful if done improperly. Much that is posted here is destructive criticism.

When making constructive criticism, a successful technique to use is the sandwich technique. Place a negative between two positives. Example, I like how player X makes a high % of 3 pt shoots. But his assist to TO ratio needs work, he needs to work on making better passes. Sure glad we have his better than average free throw shooting on our team.

Negative venting on the internet is for babies.

Which Lo Pan are you talking about, the little basketcase on wheels or the ten-foot-tall roadblock?

Like I told my last wife, I says, "Honey, I never drive faster than I can see. Besides that, it's all in the reflexes."
