I want Kaman for the playoffs. There will be occasions when Aldridge is on the floor and neutralized by double and triple teams and the weak side will not be covered. Kaman will be the perfect offensive threat on the other side of the floor, so we can vary our plays a bit.

Few teams have 2 post threats-- can't let that advantage go.
 
To get Kevin Martin, it will require Barton, CJ, our first rounder and T rob.

Fwiw, I bet Barton has 0 trade value. No one would want him. At least Trob has an expiring contract.
 
The thing I like about Martin the most is that he gets to the free throw line and is automatic once he does.

Barton doesn't have a contract for next year either.

Bleh, T-rob and CJ should be all it cost. The added 1st for a guy like Martin would be overkill.
 
Let me rephrase on Barton/trob. At least trob has shown some nba skills. Barton hasn't.
 
Did Barton not show any nba skills last year in the playoffs against the spurs?.

Considering we have a deep draft coming up, Martin's injury history and contract+age... I'd want to keep the pick. I just don't like throwing in a 1st rounder for a 32+ year old guy on a 3 year deal making ~7 mil.
 
They talk about deep drafts all the time. Usually doesnt pan out that way. You gotta try to win when you have a chance.

Yes he is a RFA but he doesn't have a contract for next year. Either do Claver and Freeland. All that it means is we could match an offer on any of those guys (up to MLE) if someone did offer something to them this summer.

All I know is there are very few guys I would deal 2 young guys and our pick for (obtainable of course). Winning would be great but Kevin Martin isn't a guy that really boosts you THAT much. He has potential to give us 10-15 points a night but he also has the potential to give us 10-15 games of bench riding with an air cast on. I know ANYONE can get injured but it's REALLY risky to be giving a rival team prospects for an older guy with a history of games missed (same reason why I have my doubts on a Wilson Chandler deal.) with a longer contract than desired. The positive would be that he could be Wes' replacement if it came down to it but man we'd be playing with fire and praying every night someone doesn't hit his fragile body hard enough.

I love the draft and think there will be a lot of nice players at the 25-30 range that could help Portland, but if you can get Martin for T-Rob + Victor + 1st, you do it.

That's more tempting as we can keep CJ for another trade (or a third team in a trade that brings in Martin+Another bench piece). Still though, gotta think long term, we are a small market and we don't get top end FA's what if a doomsday scenario happens and we lose Wes and/or Lopez? We'd be stuck with a semi-decent but 7-10 seed team with no valuable movable assets (outside the remaining core pieces) if that happens. It's probably an irrational fear but that pick could be more valuable to this team than we know and it should only be used for the absolute right player.
 
Not quite sure why anyone is apposed to giving up a first rounder to obtain Kevin Martin. We have enough young guys to develop right now. Last thing we need are more "Free whomever" threads because they can't get burn. How about we open the championship window and get some titles in before Aldridge pasts his prime?

I'd take Arron Afflalo before K-Mart. We should try to deal for him first IMO.
 
I wish the Blazers would entertain the thought of making room for a guy like Ray Allen and bringing him in! If we are true tittle contenders why don't we do this.
 
Actually because he doesn't want to play yet and he is ring chasing. When he does sign it won't be with us.
 
I like Afflalo better than Martin as well. He plays both ends of the floor. But you have to bet that he will be a free agent this summer. At 7.5 /yr I doubt he gambles on waiting until next summer. He will get 9-10 anyways. Are we going to resign him?
