One of Neil's greatest qualities seems to be his relationships with agents. So far that has netted us Mo Williams, Dorrell Wright, Chris Kaman, which equates to a lot of meh

Hold on, I'm still searching for the kleenex to wipe those tears of yours away.

So you're really going to leave out Rolo and TRob as well as drafting Lillard, Barton and CJ? Keeping the starters together as well? Come on MM, Olshey is well connected, he just disagrees with your plan for the team but we're way better than pre Olshey Larry Miller, Chad Buchanon days.

What do those things have to do with the thread?

They are my response to your thread title, does that really need explanation or do you have rules about how we can respond here? Eliminating successful moves by the GM to bolster your critique seems a bit self serving don't you think?

My thread title was about Neil's asset, which is a good one, of being friends with many agents. Drafting guys and trading for them has little to nothing to do with guiding FA's to Portland through his relationships.

Are you that sensitive that you needed to come to his "rescue?"I said nothing about the draft or trades in my post

It wasn't a critique of the GM

All you other posts directed at me

Whose to say they were directed at you? All of them? Maybe in some other threads they were taken to a broader scope and you felt it landed on you. And for that, that would not be on me.

But, we may simply be bumping heads. And for that, I shall offer you a remedy. Zig instead of Zag. haha.

You must have me confused with Mick?

Well factoring wright was pledged by OKC and he choose blazers is one.

I would like to see Olshey with some decent cap room and good free agency to work with. Last summer, we had too many holes to fill to net 1 player. This summer isn't over yet. The jury is out on Kaman.

The big key will be "will Aldridge stay?" If he does, then our GM has a good enough relationship with its players to keep an allstar in Portland.

I agree. Next summer is going to be huge for the franchise and Olshey.

Guarantee Olshey wishes he was still with the Clippers with Sterling gone and Ballmer in. Sucks to be him.

Either way with cap space opening up next year this wasn't going to be the year he went for the strike. Looks like that will be next year now, especially with the Kaman deal being basically a 1 year deal.

So enjoy your 2014-2015 Blazers for what they will be: 1st round and out or maybe 2nd round.

Time to make a 2015 NBA Free Agents thread.

Me coming to Olshey's rescue, now that's some real basketball conversation. Neil's relationships made all his acquisitions happen. I think he's a bright guy. I think 54 wins and 2nd round playoffs is basic scientific method but like I said, if you want to doubt the guy's professional skills then you and I disagree.

I don't know if Olshey knew how tough of a gig this would be . . . but I bet he is loving PA's attitude of "I will pay for a championship". I think Olshey will adjust and start thinking about getting stars via trade. the Kaman contract might be an example of how PA'S money can be used as an advantage.. Overpaying Kaman for one year could come in handy at the end of the season and does lock up Kaman early rather than waiting to see if you can get him cheap with the BAE.

I would much rather have Kaman for one yr at 5.3 mil (with a team option) than 3 mil for two yrs guaranteed.

Wow, and summer league hasn't even begun for the Blazers or the roster solidified. I will enjoy the 2014-15 Blazers and too bad you've already determined their outcome before tipoff.

That all depends on the players available (and wanting to come to) to the Blazers for the MLE.

I do like the fact that Kaman's contract is essentially a one-year deal. Minimize the risk for future seasons.

Thread was specifically for FA signings, and tongue in cheek at that. Not the draft. Not in trades. Relax, if he reads the forum you'll get your lemming badge from the Blazers.

I thoroughly enjoyed last season and knew in my heart of hearts we weren't winning shit. Why does it have to be either or?

That will be the summer that defines Olshey's career with the Blazers much like Pritchard drafting Oden is his legacy.

Agree. I'm however not ready to give up on him. He has done some good things. And maybe just maybe he is responsible for how much these guys like each other.

But he has not blown skirt up. On Draft Day, During Free Agency, When making trades. I would like to know if this is the real Neil Olshey. He just seems like he is packing a very weak punch. He lacks creativity from my view and I have never seen anyone take the easy road or manage by default like this guy does.

I think he has done a fine job as well.

Hit on Lillard, Lopez and T-Rob

Bunted on Barton

Whiffed on Leonard, Wright

Still up to bat on CJ, Kaman and Mo, really

To tell you the truth, Mo was looking so much better at the later part of the season. I just wished we had a more veteran bench. At least another player able to score.

The only ones of those who Olshey obtained due to his connections from teams/training camps were Wright, Kaman, and Mo. That's what Olshey says; we have no proof unless the player corroborated.

The other 6 players are irrelevant to the thread title.

thread should be titled "Neil olshey needs more money to work with in free agency so we can find out if he has any friends".seriously , consider the team last offseason. who would sign? MLE for Kaman for one year is more palatable than the Jodie meeks deal IMO. incrementle improvements, not throwing the baby out with the bath water or in this case, LA for unproven potential I think. this years pick was traded before NO arrived on scene and considering what he inherited, he and his friends have advanced the blazers leagues not miles or inches from where we were 3 summers ago. he has brought stability engaged and energized the fan base, and measureable improvement in wins-losses and playoff success.

He's not interested in the draft day manipulations of Pritchard or the Midseason Trade Deadline pickups of Whitsitt. He let June 30 pass without using the Paul Allen advantage, the $3 million per year bribe. This is Olshey's 3rd draft & summer here, plus 2 seasons between summers. A month from now when summer signings are over and he's replaced or re-signed Mo, the judgment on him will begin to get harsh.

He's a party boy, resting upon his personality and connections, rather than a go-getter opportunist like Whitsitt, pushing Allen to the edge of the envelope. The Oregonian would annoint him their new Christ if only he would spread a few rumors their way like Pritchard did to grease his own P.R. wheels.

Pritchard never got the blazers out of thr first round and whiffed heavily on trading raef lafrentz huge expiring. couldn't even seal the deal for turkoglu.
correct me if I'm wrong but only 2 whittset teams made it out of the first round?

Those 2 GMs didn't inherit a young trio of Aldridge, Batum, and Matthews, the core of a playoff team, once shed of old Slowdown McMillan.

Yes, Pritchard let RLEC pass by, I was thinking of that. After holding LaFrentz out of many games in which he could have helped.
