Neil Olshey needs better friends

He's not interested in the draft day manipulations of Pritchard or the Midseason Trade Deadline pickups of Whitsitt. He let June 30 pass without using the Paul Allen advantage, the $3 million per year bribe. This is Olshey's 3rd draft & summer here, plus 2 seasons between summers. A month from now when summer signings are over and he's replaced or re-signed Mo, the judgment on him will begin to get harsh.

He's a party boy, resting upon his personality and connections, rather than a go-getter opportunist like Whitsitt, pushing Allen to the edge of the envelope. The Oregonian would annoint him their new Christ if only he would spread a few rumors their way like Pritchard did to grease his own P.R. wheels.

So what side of the pendulum are ya on, JP?

Reading this thread makes me feel dirty.

Pritchard never got the blazers out of thr first round and whiffed heavily on trading raef lafrentz huge expiring. couldn't even seal the deal for turkoglu.
correct me if I'm wrong but only 2 whittset teams made it out of the first round?

So far I think he is a man full of hot air and that is how he got this position. By selling Paul a bill of goods. But of this is going to catch up to him if Paul sees things like losing out on Spencer Hawes negative.

I think there is something to his team last year. And I give him credit for that. The teams climate I gave him credit for. Incidentally, I gave that same thing to KP.

Yours, dude. You used to have me fooled with your false flag avatar.

I do think Olshey's a much better scout (talent evaluator) than Pritchard.

I haven't jumped off his wagon (His act cracks me up, and I seen this from the beginning hence the flag avatar) just trying to be one of the 'few' to put the heat on him. Hopefully, he get's the word.

Those 2 GMs didn't inherit a young trio of Aldridge, Batum, and Matthews, the core of a playoff team, once shed of old Slowdown McMillan.

Yes, Pritchard let RLEC pass by, I was thinking of that. After holding LaFrentz out of many games in which he could have helped.
no Oslshey's roster from the previous McMillan years won 28 games the year before taking over the reins. he hired the coach that helped/freed batum and to a certain extent Mathews. he drafted the best face of the franchise since broy. and even terry porter. found damian lillard available at 6 and took him over Drummond and barnes and others because he believed in the kids personality as well as talent. second guess the choice on talent but not leadership. he has picked or traded for dynamic PG including Bledsoe and cp. empty shirt not so much. asset plan fruitition me thinks. Pritchard inherited the dregs of the Patterson administration but he was the director of player personel that drafted kryhapa and monia and was part of the Webster over cp dwilliams decision making team. he got many of the pieces he begged allen for. how about bayless? Fernandez? McMillan was his hire. talk about stagnating a franchise while letting the cake bake. we all have our favorites and no one is claiming NO is the new messiah, but the black/bleak/hasn't done anything compared to the other tywo doesn't hold water. sorry

My connections from training camps around the country tell me that Olshey never misses my posts, so maybe he'll start reading yours, too.

Props to Olshey for not trying to fix what wasn't broken. Made the 2nd round of the playoffs last season.

You have HCP's problem. You meet the VIPs and feel sorry for them. This is why I don't want to meet posters, so I can do what's necessary to be hated.

You can't meet any of us, Denny took at a restraining order out on you years ago.

That anonymous thing? So I've stayed away from all the neighbors' wives for nothing.

Well the wives might have paid you to stay away if you'd only asked them, duh

So here is a twist, let me defend the Kaman trade (Strictly on a contract basis) . . . giving Kaman a 2 yr deal with a buyout is even better than a one yr deal referred to in this thread. I'm not close to an expert on salary cap, but can't the Blazers trade his 5 mil dollar contract at the end of the yr giving another team the ability to buy him out for 1 million and that team clears salary space while we package Kaman and others for a disgruntled star (Hibbert) in return. Then Blazers resign Aldrdige . . . along with Lillard, Batum and packaged star= a big 4! :D

You said it better here. It's a good idea.

OK as I try to accept Kaman (a guy the last small market team he played for sent home because of his attitude) maybe the logic goes like this:

Blazers need a backup center because Leonard not ready and Freeland is limited. Not getting Hawes. Kaman available and worth about 3 million or so a yr. Can wait to see if he accepts BAE but might get signed by another team for more. If you offer 3.5 for 2 yrs that would be very competitive but leaves less than 2 on the MLE and about the same as the BAE. Blazers only have two spots open so if you are going to burn the MLE, why not give him the entire thing in exchange for a buyout of 1 million. Kaman gets his 6 million, which I can't imagine he would get more from any other team (or they wouldn't have agreed to this) and Blazers get their flexibility . . . . . .so they can dump him after a yr when they find out he is an unmotivated and lazy center (sorry couldn't resist typing the last part :) )

But maybe that's the logic behind throwing this guy 5.8 million???

tl/dr: if going to burn MLE, why not give it all to him in exchange for flexibility . . .

The only ones of those who Olshey obtained due to his connections from teams/training camps were Wright, Kaman, and Mo. That's what Olshey says; we have no proof unless the player corroborated.

The other 6 players are irrelevant to the thread title.

That was my original point. ONLY his FA signings.

Buchanan landed on Lillard, who was the reason 1a we got into the playoffs in the first place, and the main reason we got out of the first round.

Trolling threads will do that.

Classic. Only 100% sniffing of the Blazers jock threads are considered acceptable threads in the eyes of some people.

Lillard needs to work on his defense....TROLL!!!!!!

Matthews needs to work on his off the dribble game....TROLL!!!!!!

Batum needs to work on his handles....TROLL!!!!!

Aldridge needs to play in the block a bit more....TROLL!!!!!!

Lopez has bad hair....TROLL!!!!!!

T-Rob plays too fast around the rim....TROLL!!!!!!

Meyers looks like a Ken doll....TROLL!!!!!!

Will Barton needs to play under control more and he could be great....TROLL!!!!! Well I agree on the great part, but the other part is garbage

I don't know if Olshey knew how tough of a gig this would be . . . but I bet he is loving PA's attitude of "I will pay for a championship". I think Olshey will adjust and start thinking about getting stars via trade. the Kaman contract might be an example of how PA'S money can be used as an advantage.. Overpaying Kaman for one year could come in handy at the end of the season and does lock up Kaman early rather than waiting to see if you can get him cheap with the BAE.

I would much rather have Kaman for one yr at 5.3 mil (with a team option) than 3 mil for two yrs guaranteed.

You do realize the Blazers have paid the Luxury Tax just twice since the 2005 season, right?

every time they were lined up to start spending big, boom, career ending injury

if roy and and oden were still around, and the blazers were a contender, the payroll would be around 100MM

I remember the whole "the model is broken" and PA was going to put a stop to spending cash just to spend it. What I like about PA is he wants to win so bad he will spend it again when it's time.

For the past 10 yrs this team has been rebuilding (which is why I hate the idea of trading LA for draft picks), but PA has shown he will spend cash when needed. He maxed out Roy, he gave LA a fat contract, he didn't hesitate to match Nico's fat contract at the time, he just offered LA a max extension . . . and if you want current proof PA opens the checkbook, he just paid Kaman 5.8 million for this coming up yr.

The problem is the Blazer roster has been littered with young players on rookie contracts for the past 5-8 years and very few draft picks have panned out. If the Blazers get good draft picks (like Roy, Aldridge and Nico), Allen will pay to keep them in Ptd. If a big time FA wants to come to Ptd and Ptd has cap space, he will dish out the cash. He always has in the past and nothing to show he won't in the future.

Does that make you a troll regarding A_am Morrison, or does it just make you wrong?

I will be anxious to see what Sly changes your personal attack to read. He's always so clever
