My lord, this guy is a class act... gold standard for a GM... I could listen to his press conference over and over. I wish I could post the entire transcript... everything he says is the exact opposite of Neil... for anyone doubting what a snake oil salesman Neil is, please take the time to watch this
Gold standard?
He tells Rozen that will not trade him to his face then do it?
I know there is no loyalty DR was very loyal to them like Dame is, so if we told Dame is isn't getting traded and then turn around and do it, this town would want to crucify Neil.
The players around the league have commented that DR had lied too and it will hurt their future in signing players.
Gold Standard....what has this guy done to make him that? Decent GM but gold standard?

Yes, he is gold standard because he can separate emotion and logic. He is operating in the best interest for the city of Toronto and their fans, trying to win championships, not settling for being mediocre... he is not there to make players happy or for financial savings.. he respects the fans, which is something you can’t say about Neil

Masai trotted out Derozan and Lowry in attempts to get over the hump for 5 straight years, all the while shifting pieces around them. 5 years he built his team around that pairing. 5 years! And he's the gold standard. For trotting out the same pairing for 5 years! Neil builds around his backourt for 3 years, and he should be fired for being stagnant. Fuck outta here with that shit. After 5 years of shifting pieces in the hopes that it would work with those two, he finally moved on, and yet Neil doing the same in less time is doing a bad job.

A few things wrong with this argument:

  1. 4.4 mil is a damn steal.
  2. Ed wouldn't take minutes away from Zach.
  3. If he didn't take that offer we maybe could have had him for less.
  4. He wouldn't be out of a job. He's needed here.

Who is giving out $4.4m for role players right now?
I believe Ed would take mins
If he didn’t take the offer, Neil would be an asshole for not giving him advice of taking the money
If he wasn’t with us, and turned down Brooklyn, why wouldn’t he be in the same boat as the other bigs who are currently jobless?

@Gronk Brady 's premise is wrong, but Toronto won 59 games last season after winning 51, and 56 the years prior. They even got two games in the conference finals against Lebron's championship team in year 3 of their build. There are obviously parallels with our situation and Toronto's but they've had a lot more success than us. We haven't won enough to warrant this kind of complacency.

Then again, the complacency is a result of Neil putting us in cap hell to begin with, so all this is a moot comparison. Apples and oranges.

Not to pile on Neil any further, but contrast Olshey's press conferences with this:

No condescension, acknowledging mistakes, admitting risks, etc etc. Just so much more genuine and a level of accountability than anything you see from Neil.

I wish I could like this 1000x. Can't agree more.

1. How? KOQ got about the same and he’s better than Davis. Look at all the other bigs still on the street as well.

2. Zach averaged about 18m in the rotation. That number should go up next year. If Ed stayed, it would’ve stayed the same.

3. Assumption

4. He obviously wasn’t needed here. That’s why they moved on. Neil even explained, in detail, why.

Right NOW doesn't have any bearing. The decision was made early in the FA period (or before FA began) to not bring Ed back.

That was a mistake by NO.

Ed wanted to be here. Dame wanted Ed here. Ed provided MUCH more to this team than either Caleb/Meyers (who will get his time) or Staukuas (who took his roster spot) ever will.

Was he the gold standard in Denver?

I need one of those

I gotta be honest.... I think the nature in which Paul runs the team seems to court a certain type of GM. If you don't fit that type, you get run out of town (Cho).

Trader Bob
KP
Neil

They all had the same kind of used car salesman vibe going on. Maybe it takes that kind of person to convince Paul to get something done. I don't know. But the more I hear about our front office and how things are conducted, the less enthralled I am with Paul as an owner. Corporate culture is from the top down. Period.

I love Dame. I love our team of players. I really like Terry and the coaches. I can't stand our front office, and I just have a feeling it begins and ends with Paul Allen.

Dame said he is not looking to jump ship; not looking for the easy way out; he's here to compete, and take the challenge.

“To win without risk is to triumph without glory.” – Pierre Corneille

“The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.” – Moliere

Dame Lillard gets it.

Greatest Blazer of all time.

Not to be a broken record, but....

With the Clips, NO only had to deal with the fans when things went right. When anything went wrong, the bandwagoneers just watched the Laker games. Portland fans are many things - but we are rarely indifferent!

That tweet is the dumbest shit I've ever read. That person should be banished from twitter.

To tout that the Clippers gained Harris and Williams when they lost CP3, Griffin, and Jordan is stupid.

The Spurs gained DeRozan but lost Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green, and Tony Parker.

Utah gained Rubio but lost Gordon Hayward.

I can't believe you'd post this nonsense like it is knock on the Blazers.

In my scenario he's with us and Neil is the asshole for not offering.

At least when Olshey signs or trades for someone that person actually shows up to the press conference.

I agree with a lot of that, but I am calling foul on the Spurs comment. The Spurs lost Kawhi a year ago, Parker has very little tread left on the tires, and Green is not even close to as valuable as DeRozan.

1. 4.4 Mil is a steal and there's no convincing me otherwise. Not swayed.

2. Um no. There are 48 mins at the PF spot. He could easily play more there if Aminu only plays 24 mins per and plays more 3.

3. Which is why I said MAYBE.

4. Neil's a fucking idiot.

The only “arguement” for ed that even made a little sense is if NO was certain he had a deal in place to get cousins. As it is though, not at all happy about letting Ed go...

I didn't like losing Ed anymore than anyone but in retrospect I completely understand why Ed went to the east and we opened those minutes...Ed is a consummate pro....this will be his 5th team in his career and he's on a one year deal....we could actually bring him back like we did Steve Blake...I think there were no hard feelings from Ed's camp at all....I"ve moved on from the Big Ed loss and see his minutes being filled by our younger guys now....I'm actually one of the few folks around here who think Swanigan is going to produce and at least match Ed's rebounds..Caleb also sets good screens. We were talking to the Pels about Boogie when this all went down as well.

I agree. It should've said:

Por-Staukas

Wtf?

The market dictates value, not affinity.

Stotts cutting Aminus minutes isn’t realistic.

And you still haven’t addressed the basketball reasons behind dumping Ed.

You can be mad with Olshey about a thousand other things, literally, but his reasoning in regards to Ed is pretty logical.
