Neil Olshi**y's Summer

He'd have to dump Aminu AND another player, Layman, Swanigan, etc. to get under. With nothing coming back. I think currently, Sacramento and Atlanta are the only teams that can fit that.
Atlanta won't be able to if they make this Melo trade.

Waiving-stretching Meyers and getting rid of Layman should do it

He is to blame for us being in that cap situation in the first place. Let's not lose sight of that.

We all know we were handcuffed this offseason. Maybe instead of rehashing the need for vets and the trade exception in nearly every interview, he should have highlighted the fact that there's no one there we can actually get. But he probably didn't want to point his finger back at himself?

Lol exactly.

But I wasn’t expecting him to be active just in free agency anyway. I assumed because they weren’t willing to trade CJ that they’d go “all in” meaning they’d use the TPEs.

Nope, not quite. Then we'd have only Nurk, Collins, and Swanigan as big men too.
I'm at $ 123,718,341 with the moves I made. That's about 15k below tax line. We'd be above tax if one of our guys hits an incentive however.

I think a couple of other teams have TPEs to fit Aminu. Layman shouldn’t be hard to dump.

You're forgetting we'd only have 13 guys and have to sign someone to have 14. There's no way to do that for $15k.

If that were the plan, or all along the plan of getting under the tax again, then they wouldn't have guaranteed Layman for the season.
Stretching Meyers, and finding a taker for Layman saves us 7764053 this season.

That minimum roster size charge only shows up if I go below 12 on sham. Regardless, I don't want to be pedantic.

I'm merely pointing out that Neil's narrative might change come deadline. He already mentioned the 3x tax hit on any addition as a way to build that story. It wouldn't surprise me if they tried to duck the tax.

No I'm saying it's physically impossible to get under the cap that way. Cap holds don't matter. I'm talking about during the season you have to have 14 guys.

What would this world be if we absolutely crucify anyone and everyone for making a mistake?

I stole a laffy taffy when I was 8 from a store. I should still be paying for it and be criticized for that too right?

I think we have enough people making sure no one loses site of anything around here. You are gonna join them now?

Not under cap. I never said under the cap. I'm talking tax.

I'm talking tax too, I don't get what you aren't understanding.

You have to carry 14 players. The Blazers would have 13 in your scenario. We'd have to sign someone, thus putting us back over the tax.

My man, you said: "No I'm saying it's physically impossible to get under the cap that way"

Was never talking about cap in any scenario. Anyways, your point is noted. Maybe we can find someone to take ET by throwing a pick their way. Voila. We're under tax there.

I don’t actually believe we have to carry 14. The CBA says the minimum is 13.

And I apologized for putting the wrong word.

More realistically attaching a pick to Leonard might be the way to go.

The worst part is I don’t even see any moves he could make now that would really make a difference, short of trading CJ.

We also have a roster full of guaranteed contracts, so a free agent is out the window as well.

Fuck him.
But that is what needed to happen too. At least put him into the discussions.

Hard to lose sight of an Elephant in your room.

To what end - If he's out there trying to get a deal done in the 11th hour why would he project anything to the contrary? Or do you fall in line with the Neil just hits the snooze button all day crowd.

There's no crowd, man. We keep seeing these deals getting done around the league, and the western teams getting better, and can't do a damn thing because of the cap mess he put us in. Just deflating. July 25 will come and go and the one piece he had that was supposedly useful (whether in a deal for immediate help or for a future pick while taking on a salary dump) will go with nothing in return.

And as a reminder, Andrew Nicholson is on our cap for three more years-- so PA is paying him with no attached assets to stay away from the team. Might as well have kept someone useful like Crabbe on the team if we won't use the TPE.

How the hell does Neil still have a job?

Man that video of dame from yesterday is depressing. And it’s JULY! Remember last summer when Melo gave him hope? Lol. He looks defeated before the season even starts. He knows Neil isn’t gonna get anything done. And he’s probably too good of a guy to demand him to be fired, and too loyal to ask for a trade. He doesn’t deserve this shit. Neither do the fans.
