It’s Not Just ‘Melo - Nets Talking Bargnani, Diaw, Barbosa
May 20, 2008, 7:25 am In a wide ranging story on the Nets off season plans, Dave D’Alessandro says while the Nets have had “some dialogue” about trading for Carmelo Anthony and have made “cursory inquiries” about Boris Diaw and Leandro Barbosa, the ”more substantive” talks have been with Toronto about Andrea Bargnani. Meanwhile, ‘Melo’s agent says of the reports, “It’s BS right now.” As for the lottery, if they win it, they’ll keep the pick.

If we do pick up Bargnani then I'd prefer to keep Diop over Krstic when it comes to FA signings.

I think Melo and Camby or Barbosa and Diaw would both be steals. Diaw is so underrated he's got so much talent and can play down on the block he's just not selfish enough to take all the shots. But, if we get Bargnani I'm no longer a Nets fans.

Yeah it would suck If we got Bargniani... I wouldnt mind Barbosa or Boris though.

Uh, Barbosa? We've already got a better version of him, his name is Devin Harris.

I still like the idea of a Barganini-RJ deal, but we should see this Melo thing through first...

Imagine having Barbosa AND Devin on the floor at the same time, tho. Fastest backcourt ever.

I can see Nets trying to go the run and gun style with Barbosa and Diaw.
I'd rather the Melo/Camby deal, but I don't think I'd mind Barbosa and Boris...maybe.
Bargnani doesn't interest me.

Barbosa + Harris would be a ridiculously fast guard combo.

Because of some contract issues, the Nets would have to wait until July 1 before they could hypothetically acquire Carmelo.

Correct.

NJ should just go for Bosa &/or Diaw...with Phoenix trying to save money with Shaq'a contract for the next two years they might be able to get Phoenix's 1st Round pick as well (possible 15th overall).

Let's trade for Bargnani, draft Gallinari, keep Krstic, Boki and rename to New Europe Nets

p.s. and give one more chance to Zoran!

Sounds like fun...but with the team moving to Brooklynn and the way New york fans are along with how much thier going to have to rely on fan support, I don't think thay can afford to load the team up with alot a players fans don't know or can't relate to. Not to say they're not good players or that they can't end up being great down the road. Do you think New York's fanbase is a place to build a team of players that will take years to develop a face and relationship with that fanbase? They have very short attention spans and little tolerance for mediocrity

LOL. Who in BROOKLYN would be able to relate to Italians and Eastern Europeans?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ghoti @ May 20 2008, 11:49 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>LOL. Who in BROOKLYN would be able to relate to Italians and Eastern Europeans?</div>

That's my point...they don't need to go that route...they need a young team that will compliment the "King" in two years when he's free to join his boy Jigga

Your point is that people in Brooklyn won't relate to ITALIANS and EASTERN EUROPEANS??

It has nothing to with race, nor was I implying race as an issue so we can cut that one right now. I'm talking about the differences of a fanbase being able to relate to players they haven't been familure with as opposed to young players that played college and they've seen on TV ( ie; March Madness). How may people (average fans) even know who Gallinari is? How many have access to watching ball overseas? That's my point. Now can we please leave the race card out of this. Being multiracial myself, I do take offense to that talk. Thanks.

What you are saying makes no sense.

Fans relate to JJ Redick more than Hedo Turkoglu because one won the Naismith and the other is from a far away country with little basketball visibility?

oh, man....your hell bent on arguing aren't you?...lol. Think about what your saying and the point I'm trying to make. Turkoglu didn't really make a strong name for himself until 6 years after he was drafted. Redick was more well known coming out of college then Turk was coming in. How well known was Turkoglu coming in? And he was a #16 pick...Gallinari is a projected top 10 and how many people know him...they probably couldn't tell you who he played for. I'm not talking about who's better, I'm talking about the fans not having time to "warm-up" to players...in order to pull in fans as soon as they move to Brooklynn they need people on they teams they've heard of and are willing to buy tickets to see. You seen how quick the fans turn in NY.

Funny Turkoglu is mentioned - I remember one Nets game where 500+ Turkey fans showed up, and acted like a soccer crowd. They were waiving flags, chanting "Hidayet! Hidayet!", etc. Soon the Nets fans were getting pissed off, and cheered WAY too loudly whenever Turk missed a shot or turned the ball over. The Nets ended up running the Kings off the court, and the crowd was chanting "USA! USA!"

So...uh...I guess that helps Ghoti's point?

You already made a comment about "surrounding Lebron".

If Lebron is on the team, it doesn't matter who surrounds him as far as ticket sales are concerned.

True, true...but they gotta make a team Labron will want to go too....they have two year s to work on that though...so they should do alright.

I have no idea what point you are trying to make, NNNM, so it's hard to argue.
Is it that DeAndre Jordan will bring more fans out to BK in 2012 than Gallinari?

I was talking about as a whole, and about the current situation not just Turkoglu. But I see where this is going and it seems like no one is ever open to other views. I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, but everyone seems hell bent on making it one way or another....these are opinions...everyone has thier favorite flavor of Kool-aid...it doesn't make mine any better than the next

I guess I want to know why anyone thinks fans in Brooklyn "don't know" or "can't relate to" a team with Bargnani, Gallinari, Boki and Krstic.

All I can say is, Please God, not Bargnani. This guy is horrible. No heart, doesn't play D, takes bad shots, poor attitude. Why do we want the biggest lottery bust since Olowakandi? They are trying to get rid of him for a reason. Just because they might not have to give much back doesn't make it a good trade. Stay away from that stiff. I'd rather have Nick Fazekas from the Clips than Bargani, seriously. Barbosa would be sweet, but where was his game in the playoffs? He was awful.

Buy low, sell high.

Who knows how Bargs will turn out, but Barbosa is definitely undervalued right now, especially the way Kerr is cleaning house.
