Nets Barometer - Key stat to Nets Wins/Losses

I haven't done any research, but this year more than ever, the one crucial stat as to how the Nets play and how to increase their chances of winning, is Vince Carter's Free Throw Attempts.


If Vince has 10+ FTA's in a game, the Nets have a great chance of winning. This indicates that he is not settling for outside shots and driving to the hoop. This is important since he is now the leader of the team and sets the attitude for the team.

This results in:

1) Higher percentage shots closer to the basket
2) Putting opponents in foul trouble
3) Inspiring other Nets to be aggressive and attack the hoop, not just settle

Vince has the potential to make those around him better. Let's hope he continues to do so. He has been pretty good about attacking this year overall. If you look at the two Bobcats games, you will see that the FTA's reveal two different levels of aggression.

How about we move the team to a new city where more than 10,000 people will attend the game! The weak home record hasto do with the crappy arena, and the weak home attendance. I'm sure if the Nets were to play in a stadium with atleast 15,000+ fans, and a crowd that actually cheered, they would play a lot better...

Ok, so let's revisit this chicken and egg debate one more time. I was in the arena last Friday against Charlotte. As the Nets were sleepwalking through the first half, some of us did everything we could to cheer them on, get them going, rise to the occasion. Nothing.

Then, where there is SOMETHING to cheer about, the crowd gets into it. A blocked shot. An aggressive dunk. An alley oop. A big time three when the team really needs it. A great defensive possession when we need a stop. This is what the players need to do to get and keep the fans into the game.

There aren't many people who can average 10+ fta/g. That expectation is a little unrealistic, especially for a player over 30.

This season, even a player who looks for contact EVERY possession barely gets over 10 FTA/G. Dwyane Wade is averaging 10.2. Vince is at 6.5. That's pretty much what I would expect of him at this point in his career.
