Favorite music artist is Jay-Z.

I wonder if he could challenge for the starting spot if Vince moved over.

Well, according to that source, all it's lacking right now is league approval, which will basically be going over the contracts and making sure the deal works cap-wise, which it will. So it's just a matter of time, but the point is, it's no longer specualtion. The wheels have been set in motion, and in a few days, Keyon Dooling will be a Net.

I guess a lot of Nets fans see him complimenting Vince Carter well, but outside of that, I don't like the signing. An undersized two-guard or a pass-first point guard? Either way, Dooling's not really adding much to this current roster that's loaded with scorers on the wing. They needed to go after a playmaker.
</div>

What scorers on the wing are the Nets loaded with?

There is Vince and then no one. I suppose you could stretch and say Devin Harris, but he isn't a reliable big time scorer.

The rest of the wings are Jarvis Hayes, Bobby Simmons, Hassell, CDR, Marcus and Ager. A lot of that group would have trouble putting up 20 ppg in the D league.

Not unless the goal is to go 0-82

I forget where I read it but a lot of GMs in the league feel Dooling could be a starter for them. I think he is going to turn into one of Frank's favorite players because of his defense and ability to stretch the floor with his shooting, but we'll see.

Dooling isn't a very good long range shooter so I doubt he stretches the floor. He will certainly be one of Frank's favorites though. He's a big time on the ball defender and was easily Orlando's top reserve. He can create his own shot and is a great athlete that can penetrate and finish strong. Sometimes he makes poor decisions and can be out of control but he's an excellent bench player to have. He does what's asked of him and can play in a variety of different styles.

I'm glad we have him on the team! (no sarcasm intended) we need someone feisty and willing to get down and dirty</div>

Ugh, that makes me like him a lot less.

That's not the kind of feistiness we need, but we'll see how he does on the court

Actually Harris and Marcus are not wings...
that expression stands for SGs and SFs.
but i certainly agree that we are not loaded with scorers on the wings

Gee thanks, I had no idea what wings was an expression for

Hence why I said you could stretch and say Harris. As far as Marcus goes, he does play SG at times so I included him.

First of all, Dooling isn't the kind of guy that will stretch the floor.

Basically, what you need to know about Dooling is that A) he's fast as hell, maybe one of the fastest players in the league. B) He's great in transition and is pretty athletic. C) He's more of a slasher but he can knock down a jump shot pretty consistently. D) He'll piss you off sometimes because he has a tendency to play a little to fast to the point that his decision making gets a little cloudy. He's definitely worth those few mistakes though.

And don't think he's some type of thug after that Ray Allen video. Allen was provoking and I've interviewed Dooling a little more than ten times and he's one of the nicest guys in the league. He was the biggest joker on the Magic next to Dwight and he's a great locker room presence. It's said to see him go but he deserved more money than we could offer him after his great 07 season.

And to everyone saying he's a tweener, he's really just versatile. I prefer him at PG because he's a good ball handler and he can run and offense. Sometimes he starts getting out of control but I always trusted him at the point more than I did Carlos Arroyo. He can play SG too though because he can match up defensively against any perimeter player and he isn't that small. I think you guys will like having him on your team.

Steve Alexander of rotoworld is calling the Nets' offseason "brilliant" in light of the impending Dooling signing.

Pretty sure that is one of the signs of the apocalypse

Cool, thanks for clearing up the incident and giving some insight onto Dooling. Still very excited to have him on the Nets.

you think maybe Thorn asked Jay-Z to give him(Dooling) a call? lol

Magic GM Smith says he's unaware of reports of deal with Nets for Dooling

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Though reports by both the Bergen Record and Sporting News said late Friday that that the Orlando Magic and New Jersey Nets were close to a sign and trade involving embattled guard Keyon Dooling, Orlando GM Otis Smith has denied the imminent deal.

The Record cited league sources that said the Magic would sign Dooling to a three-year deal worth about $10.5 million and then send him to the Nets for $3.3 million trade exception that they acquired when Jason Kidd was dealt to Dallas in February.

The paper said the deal likely wouldn't be finalized until next week.

“It’s hard for me to comment on something I know nothing about,” Smith told the Sentinel Friday night.

The 28-year-old Dooling and the Magic have seemingly been headed for a split for most of the past month.

Smith said on July 13 that the club had offered Dooling a two-year deal worth about $3.8 million or $1.9 million per season – barely an increase from his $3.5 million salary last season and ripe to be outbid by clubs who could offer him part of the mid-level exception.</div>

Interesting... Otis is usually pretty up front too. Some of his trade talks go down completely behind the scenes with nobody expecting anything but normally he's pretty open with the Sentinel writers, especially Brian Schmitz. Should be interesting.

Waits for the first joke about Otis Smith and not having a clue

In Florida Today, there was a quote from Otis saying that he couldn't confirm or deny talks. When Otis Smith denies something, you know it is going down.

</div>

Otis doesn't usually deny things that are going down, he is just very secretive about them. For example, he confirmed that we were discussing a possible Crittenton trade. He also confirmed that we were shopping Francis and that we were trying to acquire Darko a few years back and both of those things turned out to go down several days later. But when we traded for Evans and Cook, nobody saw it coming. If info leaks though, he's pretty good at being straight forward, especially to Brian Schmitz and the other Sentinel writers. That's why his quote is so strange.

Rotoworld is slightly better than used toilet paper.

Any program from a Nets' game this past season already is horribly dated. And it's going to get worse within a few days when Keyon Dooling is added after a sign-and-trade deal with Orlando is finalized.

Dooling, 28, a 6-foot-3 combo guard, will fill the Nets' most conspicuous need as a backup at both guard positions. The Nets and Magic have worked out the trade that still needs league approval. The Magic get a $3.3 million trade exception that the Nets picked up in the Jason Kidd deal plus cash. Dooling, including three draft picks certain to make the roster, represents the eighth new player imported since draft day. He will bring defense, versatility and experience to an overall very young team.

"It's exciting," coach Lawrence Frank said, regarding the personnel turnover. "With so much new, you've got everyone starting from square one."

Dooling, a 6.8-point per game career scorer, will get a three-year deal, potentially worth more than $10 million.

Nets team president Rod Thorn declined to confirm the trade, but said the Nets were talking to the Magic about Dooling, who chose Orlando over the Nets as a free agent in 2005. Dooling became expendable in Orlando when the Magic signed free agents Mickael Pietrus and Anthony Johnson and then harshly criticized Magic officials when they offered him the lower level $1.91 million exception last week.
