Welcome to the Nets debate. Today we are going to have "50" face of against "AMS_ice". This debate will begin once the first reply is submitted and will last approximately 48 hours. If you are interested in being in the next debate, be sure to send a private messege to "vcwannabe15". Here is the rules I stole from the Bulls debate.

1. Only the two people participating should post in this thread after the debate is over there will be a thread for discussion and voting.

2. You can only have a debate if the people involved disagree so please try to take opposing views on the topic.

3. Keep it to clean, no personal shots

Now here is the question

In your opinion what 2 moves made by Rod Thorn were the best during his time in New Jersey?

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><font size="1"> Selected forwards Eddie Griffin (7th overall pick) and Brian Scalabrine (35th overall pick).

Traded the draft rights to forward Eddie Griffin to the Houston Rockets for the draft rights to forward Richard Jefferson, center Jason Collins and guard Brandon Armstrong.

Traded guard Stephon Marbury, forward Johnny Newman and center Soumaila Samake to the Phoenix Suns for guard Jason Kidd and center Chris Dudley.

<font size="2">The first move was probably his smartest. Getting Richard Jefferson for Brian Scalabrine and Eddie Griffin was a key pickup for them when they were actually starting to build up their team. They also got the center that is still on the team Jason Collins, who also puts up solid numbers. The funny thing about that trade though, was that later on in Thorn's career he went back and got Scalabrine and Eddie in free agency.

The second move helped get a true point guard on this squad. Jason Kidd, the best point guard in the game behind Steve Nash. Marbry at the time was considered a solid point guard, but Thorn was smart for getting rid of him at the time he did.

I know, you are thinking to yourselves why in the world doesn't he have the Vince Carter trade on there. One reason: I think that these two trades built this team up and the trade for Vince just made the team solid all-around. I will put more to this once Ice responds.

No one could post in this thread but me, NbaBaller, 50, and AMS_ice.

As much as I agree with you regarding Jefferson's acquisition, I would say that Thorn's best move was getting Kidd. In Kidd, the Nets has a franchise player, which they haven't had since Petrovic, Dr.j, etc., which was long time ago. And even so, the Nets were not really considered among the top teams in the NBA. Kidd put them back on the map, so to speak. Before Kidd, the Nets (since '77) won 40 games or more only 8 times, more than 20 years. Since his arrival, the Nets has averaged 47 wins in 4 seasons (including a franchise record 52 wins). And 2 East championships.

It's Thron's best 2 moves.

oops... my fault. May have a problem here. I agree on both moves. Sorry guys.

I'll step in and own 50 if you guys want.

If it's cool with you 50, we can debate on your 2 moves... You take the 1st, I'll take the second... what do you think?
