The Nets biggest wholes are there bench and front court play. Wright was in my opinion the highest ranking shooting guard left in the draft at that point, and they need bench help playing Vince and RJ 48 minutes each night would eventually lead there bodies to break down.
The free agency market for big men is probably the best crop we have seen in recent years. Dalermbert, Chandler, Curry, Swift, Lorenzo Wright (via trade), Kelvin Cato ( via trade), there are many options they can take in aquiring front court help. A player the calieber of Wright will not be in the free agent market for as cheap a price as some big men might be. I think they made a great choice only other selection that would have helped the team more at that point might have been Gerald Green or Granger. However, Green athletic as he may be is not as good a shooter as Wright who shot 45% from three point range last season, and as a high schooler is not a sure thing.
Big ups for the Nets in making a good first round selection in this years draft. I would not be dissappointed if I were a Nets fan right now Wright was projected to go to the Magic at eleven, so to get him at 15 is a good deal. Not only that, but with Jason Kidd 100% next season, and Vince Carter regaining his confidence in taking the ball to the basket, and not relying on his jumper as much. This will give the Nets a player who can provide a big perimeter threat when the defense surround VC when he is driving.
