Nets' Pursuit of Wilcox Apparently Will Continue

Coming to the Nets would not benefit Wilcox because he would have to backup Nenad Kristic who gets a lot of minutes. His situation would be the same as when he was in LA.

In order for Wilcox to be effective, I think a team has to put him on as a starter. The Suns would be a better fit because of their run 'n' gun style, and because their lack of bigmen. He could be a Amare-lite, just running and dunking everytime he gets the ball.

Decent. But Boone, Collins and Cliff are all good defenders, and Wilcox can fill in the role of athletic beast with good rebounding and blocking abilities that we've been missing since K-Mart left.

Rather the Nets not go for such a big fish, and instead get smaller fishes. It is almost like last season when they tried to get SAR, and ended up losing out on Marshall and Swift.

I watched him a bit on NBA League Pass last year when he was with the Clippers. He is a good weakside shot blocker when he gets there. But his man to man is a bit suspect. He isnt really a smart defender, his athletism makes up for some of that tho. He is still learning and he will be just turning 24 by the time training camp starts. I rather have a proven guy like Battie or even Gooden(but out of our reach), but I would take Wilcox over alot of other frontcourt guys on this years market. Him and Nene probably have the most upside of the free agent bigs.

BTW, I see alot of people talking about no minutes for Wilcox or not enough, why not? we dont have any big minute 4 or 5's here. Collins in his 5 years here has proven he is only going to be a guy to give you 25-28 minutes per game, because of the style and things he brings to the table. And Krstic isnt a big minute forward/Center either, he is at best a guy that will give you 30 minutes per game. So that would leave Wilcox about 30 minutes per game split between the 4 and 5 position, simliar to the minutes Robinson got last year. Boone is a 21 year old rookie its ok if he doesnt play this year, he will have plenty of time to play as his career goes along. And Robinson realistically should only be used as a spot duty big at this point in his career(not getting the extend even started a few times last year). But like M said its nearly impossible to aquire Wilcox, but the same holds true for Battie if he comes here or any big that we aquire we are going to need 20+ minutes from them.

I don't know about Wilcox's shot blocking. He isn't a shot blocker at all, it's more of him being athletic and able to get up there. He just doesn't have the timing, and isn't that good at rotating to actually be a shot blocking presence. His man to man defense is not really that good either, he's learning, but he needs work.

Wilcox would be a great pickup for New Jersey though. He would be great for the running game, and he can finish inside very well, and even score on his own, that's a lot more than Collins can do offensively.

I totally agree with you. I would never even think of Wilcox going to New Jersey without seeing this. Last year though it was NJ's fault with SAR, he should have been a Net, his knee was just fine, that would have been awesome. If the Nets somehow get Wilcox, they would be very, very good, if he meshes with the rest, they could rep the East in the Finals.

Yeah, he definately isnt a smart defender rotate.And doesnt, well that is why I put "when he gets there". From the bit that I watched him last year in Clipperville, it seemed like everybody was always barking at dude about his poor rotation on the weakside. But its still a learning process for him, he didnt get a alot of minutes behind Brand and Kaman,so he hasnt had a full chance to get down the timing or pace of the NBA.

Overall Wilcox would be a good addition if we didn't have to give up much. I don't see him in a Nets uniform anytime soon. Seattle can match any offer, so signing him is somewhat impossible. Trading for him won't be good, because Seattle won't want scrubs like Planinic, McInnis, etc but good young players and the Nets just afford to really give anybody up.

Well actually in 04-05, he got to start, and was getting minutes, 29.9 MPG for 15 games in Novemeber (averaged 13.7 PPG, 6.8 RPG 53% FG). He kinda lost them though when Kaman returned from injury. It was mostly because of his lack of defense because when he was playing, he could score, he has some back to the basket moves, is great on the pick and roll, and he finishes well, but the defense and lack of rebounding in comparison to Kaman made him lose his PT.

When he started at C for 24 games, he was putting up 12.5 PPG on 52% FG and grabbing 6.2 RPG in 27 MPG.
