Rumor Nets still interested in Crabbe

LMA's play in the playoffs stank like a rotten fish - and NO could not persuade him to live on very wet land.

You can bring a horse to water but you can't make it drink

So why'd he sign off on all last Summer's big signings? If he's having buyer's remorse, why does Olshey still have a job?
I'm not sure he 'signed off' on all the summer's signings. He may have given NO some direction and let him do his thing.

I could totally see Allen tell NO, get the team as competitive as you can, but don't go into the Lux Tax. NO did that, for the 16-17 season.

Allen didn't see (or understand) the ramifications until they signed CJ to the extension. With as many things as Allen is involved with, I have a hard time believing that he would be micro-managing the contract negotiations for the Blazers (and Seahawks, etc).

He doesn't have "at least average defensive ability" though. His size and athleticism seem to make people think he's solid on defense, but neither the eye test nor the stats suggest he's anything more than awful on defense.

I don't disagree with that, but given his physical length and young age, I can see another team thinking he could be a great 3D guy. If he was one now I wouldn't want him gone.

Or you're emotionally invested in Crabbe being a really good player and interpret everything he does through that filter.

Emotionally invested? Why would I be emotionally invested in a stranger? I just see his value, while the accountants here are blinded by his contract. Our team is better with him on it, so unless someone comes up with an actual upgrade (on the court, not on the balance sheet) I will continue to campaign for him to stay.

I agree, if he were one now, I also wouldn't him traded unless real value were coming back.

I don't dislike Crabbe (though some probably think otherwise) and have no reason to denigrate him beyond sincerely believing what I say. I've been excited by his potential in past years and still think he's a worthwhile reserve--if paid like a reserve. I don't believe he has the capability to be a good starter and he's paid like he's a very good starter. To me, not only doesn't have the "D" aspects of 3&D, even the "3" part is compromised by the fact (in my view) that he's not consistently capable of shooting them over a contest nor is he consistently capable of exploiting a hard close-out with a dribble drive. He's an un-aggressive spot-up shooter who shoots a great percentage on the easiest possible shots and he doesn't provide much value in any other facet of the game.

This is not what I expected out of him a few years ago, nor what I hoped for.

My darkhorse trade prediction: Crabbe, Meyers, #20 to ORL for Terrence Ross, #33 and #35

Yeah, keep that one in the dark. How does that improve our team?? That's a straight salary dump. Ross is a chucker.

Juan Pablo Vaulet (draft 'n stash) would be an interesting get from the Nets - even with his ankle issues.

Their roster is mostly cringe worthy though.

Ultimately, we still have no idea how other teams value our players or our draft picks.

Whether you think Crabbe is a really good player or not is not the deciding factor to me.
Whether you think he isn't utilized enough is not a factor. The fact is that he is providing very little value to the team at a very high price. There is no reason to think that the Blazers can get more value out of him somehow. They haven't done it so far. So, yes the potential value of a #22 pick with a low financial cost is a good exchange.

Ross still shoots 37% for his career from 3. And he is a far better defender than Crabbe. Plus unloading Fabio. In the big picture, that deal doesn't look horrible. It's not like we're title contenders next year.

Here are some facts about Crabbe's trade kicker that I didn't know: 1. it is not a onetime 15%; it is 15% of all the years left on the contract at the time he is traded.
2. Although the Blazers have to pay the kicker when he is traded, the receiving team takes the cap hit for it! 3. The only good new is that it would be possible for him to waive the kicker.

Deal looks amazing. Meyers AND Crabbe gone and we get something back and only have to give up one decent pick? Deal

Yep, the trade kicker doesn't count as outgoing salary, but counts as incoming salary to the team receiving the player. Which is why, if we want to actually get some cap/luxury tax relief, we need to trade him to a team that is far enough below the cap to absorb his incoming salary + kicker without sending back much, or any salary, in return.

Currently the Nets are about $30 million under the cap, depending on what they decide to do with K.J. Daniel's team option. The could take Crabbe without sending anyone else back in trade, but to they really want to blow 2/3 of their cap room on Allen Crabbe?
