L, there are two spots open. You forget about Boone.

How about Jared Jordan?

Why? Kidd, DA, Marcus coming back...

Send him to the D-League where he might do well. Cheap trade bait if he turns out to what everyone was raving about before.

That's the way I look at it. From what I've read (yeah, I haven't seen his game in person, so I could be all wrong about the guy), he's a pure point guard with great vision. I don't see why the team wouldn't invest in him, all things considered.

DA is a good pick up, but he's certainly not a long term prospect since I don't see him being with the team for more than 1-2 years. Marcus...well, in my opinion, he's really unproven at this point. He had some flashes in preseason last year (that game against the Knicks stands out), but aside from that, none of his regular season appearances have really shown him to have the same ability to lead the team from a point guard position and he's not a lights out shooter. I know it's probably not fair to judge him next to one of the great point guards of this generation, but he doesn't seem to see the court as well as Kidd and his defense is very suspect.

There's nothing to lose by picking up Jordan and based on his college stats, it would seem that he has the skills necessary to run the point.

Thron did it! Hornets give us boki, and give us our trash.

New slogan is "In Thron we trust"

Somebody here will get this. Hopefully I'm not the biggest nerd on the site.

Wow this great news to sign in to! I'd keep my eye on the following:

Hite
Pops Mensah Bonsu (hail-mary-beniton-treviso-buyout)
Jumaine Jones?
Derrick Byars
James White (for the fans)
Nichols would be sweet

QUOTE (Dumpy)

Kerry Kittles!

That would be awesome.

Great trade. Rod is the man.

QUOTE (reganomics813)

QUOTE (jirohkanzaki)

since devin brown and dahntay jones have been scooped up, i agree with cpawfan that derrick byars would be a nice pickup...

cut malik allen if they can get juwan howard for the minimum...

allan houston for more shooting...

Boston waived Dahntay so he's available.

Malik Allen was playing really well before he got injured and I think they'd be giving up on him too quickly if they did that although he and Howard are similarly skilled bigmen for sure.

dahntay available? nice... derrick byars would be the first choice though since we can add a wing who can defend AND still be below the luxury threshold. we can reserve one spot if the nets go far and needs help because of an injury or filla need going into the playoffs.

Dahntay is a Jersey guy too, he'd be a nice pickup.

Wesley is retired so he won't be reporting, but I'm not so sure the Nets are going after anyone immediately, since they'd probably be a 14th man at this point and they'd be over the tax threshold, which basically would defeat the purpose of this deal.

However, Derrick Byars is supposed to be pretty nasty.

From the sounds of this move, this is a money move first. Seems vets (IE Houston, Howard, Jones)on the vet minimum would put us over if we picked them up for the entire season and that would put us over the lux tax. I see us looking for a rookie wing to possibly find a niche on the roster for possibly next season to replace Wright....while learning the ropes through the daily grind this year.

What do you guys think of Jackie Butler? I remember some of you being high on him when he was a FA. Houston released him today.

I think if Houston released him, with Yao's injury history, he's not nearly as close as I thought he was. We've also got enough depth there.

I'm sorry I got home so late.

What a great trade.

I think that's the final vestiges of Jeff McInnis' horrible effect on the roster.

I like Marcus Williams, but he is too much of a long term project. He looks like Nicole Ritchie on Atkins.

Derreck Byars is a nice guy to develop. I bet a lot of teams are looking at him.

Our team is really shaping up... great bigman rotation, and now we have two open spots... which definitely need to be filled with swingmen at the SG/SF position... a guy who can shoot 3's would be great... Wright is no guarantee even though he has been lookin better this preseason... Boki is Boki... but all in all our team is gonna be good this year.

When I first saw this thread this morning I thought it said David West, never the less a good trade.

diemtrus nicholas signed by cavs today, so much for that

side note: the cavs waived hassan adams

As much as some of us want Derick Byars, Byars is going to cost us$427,163. Hassan alsois going to cost the nets approximately 625,000

Aren't we 500k below the threshold? Why not Byars

I just feel bad for Bernard, he just hurt his knees, and when he was trade to the Nets, he said he will have the better chance to play,

but my freind and I just said he is wrong all the way, he didn't realize what kind of people that Frank is....

now, good bye.

I have a question, why can't we just cut Ilic and Bernard by our own, but to trade both of them?

What's the difference between them?

By trading them for a retiring player, I believe it saves us a bunch of cap space (relatively). NetIncome would know the exact answer, though. I swear we would all be lost without him!

Because Wesley has a partially guaranteed contract, he won't count the same amount against the cap as waiving BRob and Mile would. That difference is enough that the Nets might consider adding someone to the roster later.

It would be a waste of luxury tax money, to waive both of them and then add somebody to replace them

Then the Hornets just want the Cash ? so they just made the trade with us.

I think that it has to do with the "cash considerations" the Nets sent along with Ilic and BRob. I think you can send cash in a trade without it counting against the salary cap, as opposed to cutting a player, in which case their salary is counted against the cap. The Hornets are pretty far under the cap, socutting or buying out playersisn't an issue for them. I suspect the Nets gave the Hornets slightly more than the combined salaries of Ilic and BRob to entice them to make this deal. The Hornets then cut them, and pocketed the difference, which may have been $50,000 or so. Wesley apparently had a very low buyout clause in his contract, which is why he made it work. Someone let me know if I have it wrong.

any word from the hornets fans? there's not even a thread about it...

just lookin around, apparently wesley was traded for cedric simmons a month ago - wow, would've been nice if the nets could have given him a shot for ilic and robinson

Ding ding ding. We have a winner. That's the most logical piece of this trade. I'm sure the Hornets will get something out of it.

Why not? He's a 6 foot white guy who had his no step vert measured at 14.5''. The next lowest was 23'' and the highest 39.5''. That's why he won't play in the NBA.
