Apparently Portland wanted to trade #13, #33 and either Blake or Jack for the Nets #10. Link

Now Portland has reportedly acquired the 27th pick from New Orleans. I would trade #10 for #13, #27 and Blake.

Then I'd draft:

#13 - Rush
#21 - Hibbert
#27 - Hickson

I get a back-up pg with experience and a good shooter in Blake, a wing in Rush, a center in Hibbert and a low post scorer in Hickson.

I'd then either trade #40 for a future 2nd or just sell it.

I assume they needed salary to match up with Blake or Jack. Probably KVH contract (or TE in Jack's case). Do you have any opinion on what else?

Doubt it included RJ since he would have been the center piece of the trade and clearly mentioned.

To me, that would be a waste of KVH's contract, but his is the one that fits

Saw this in Yahoo Sports:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>They’ve talked with Portland about sending the bad contract of Trenton Hassell and the 10th pick for the 13th pick and point guard Jarrett Jack. Portland believes it has better options to move its 13th pick, but Trail Blazers GM Kevin Pritchard could change his mind should he think he can get Alexander at No. 10.</div>

Can't blame Portland for not wanting to do that. I woudn't want to take on Hassell's contract for the right to move up 3 spots.

I don't trust this rumor because the salaries don't match up. Jack makes around $1.2mm and Hassell $4.3mm. If it said Blake it would sound more believable.

wow i believe i would pull the trigger on that one...but wouldnt do it till our pick, if everyone is gone that we want then thats the time to do it. thats of course if the other pieces are a TE or KVH...much rather it to be the TE though and get Jack as KVH semi large contract can be added with other players to swing a blockbuster trade..

either way it looks like Marcus's days are numbered...unless we keep him just for like a combo guard or something off the bench.

I'd do it, as long as Alexander isn't picked in the top 9, which would lead me to believe that the players I want are all gone. Then I would have to think about it.

Woops, someone already posted the Yahoo link

Report: Blazers acquire Hornets' pick
Wednesday, June 25, 2008 07:21 AM

BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) -- The Portland Trail Blazers have acquired the 27th pick in the 2008 NBA Draft from the New Orleans Hornets in return for cash considerations, according to an article posted Wednesday on ESPN.com.

The report states that the the deal was agreed to verbally between the teams on Tuesday night and that they have scheduled a trade call with the league Wednesday morning to make the deal official.

The Blazers, who missed the playoffs after finishing 10th in the Western Conference with a 41-41 record last season, also have the 13th overall selection in addition to a trio of picks in the second round.

Portland selected center Greg Oden from Ohio State University with the No. 1 pick in last season's draft. Oden missed the entire 2008 campaign after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee in the preseason.

The Blazers also acquired the 23rd pick in last season's draft, selecting Rudy Fernandez, who is currently playing in his native Spain.

It looks like KP is trying to gather assets so he can move way up in the lottery. No way he waits until the pick to make that trade. #10 would have been paired with more assets to move up.

Man Kevin Pritchard has been killing these drafts as of late...Chad Ford has them taking Alexis Ajinca @ 13, Nicholas Batum @ 27 and Ante Tomic @ 33...adding 3 players of that caliber to a already solid core. wow.

Nets have a $3.3 million trade exception. Jarrett makes less than that, Blake a bit more.

they will not keep all of the second runders. they have too many players under contract...thats why they are willing to dump Jack or Blake. They have Oden and Fernandez as rookies next yar and two first round picks overseas--Koponen and Freeland. First round picks have to be given firm guaranteed contracts.

Yea, Blazers have a ton of pieces to work with, that was the word following last year's draft. They own the rights to those 2. They're already bringing over Fernandez. They have way more bodies than roster slots. I think the Blazers will make a major move up the draft board....using their multiple picks as bait. They have 13 players under contract, not including James Jones who has a player option. With several picks on the docket, pretty sure, Pritchard had a deal in the works, but a possible suitor probably said 33 is too low, so he bought a 27 as added ammunition.

Hm, so maybe that's the hold-up? Portland wants the TE for Jack, but the Nets want to dump Hassell for Blake?

Considering alll players projected in Ford's mock draft are foreign born players isn't it possible that the Blazers keep them stashed in the respective countries for 2-3 seasons and slowly add them to there core?

Don't get me wrong I could totally see them making a move up the draft board in order to grab one really good prospect, problem is that there true needs are at PG and none of the players after Derrick Rose seem to be worth a top 10 pick.

It's been reported that the Knicks want more picks and since Walsh is new there and wants to bring his own talent I could see them trying to make a move.

Maybe #6 is the Blazers target.

Not really true PGs, will be available after Rose/Westbrook, you're looking at Gordon and Bayliss as possibilities after 5. Not true PG's, but given the versatility of Brandon Roy, Portland can't really go wrong with either Gordon or Bayliss at that point....if that is their true target.

Only Bayless would be interesting to see on the Portland Roster...my guess is they were going after the 10th pick in order to grab DJ Augustine who probably won't be available at 13.

Hm. I hope they didn't completely turn it down, and simply put the trade "on hold", so to speak. Perhaps once the 10th pick comes around, they could swing the deal.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (pegs @ Jun 25 2008, 03:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Hm. I hope they didn't completely turn it down, and simply put the trade "on hold", so to speak. Perhaps once the 10th pick comes around, they could swing the deal.</div>

The deal could get done, BUT what use would two second round picks be? Nets already too young.

FYI, Chad Ford says the deal is #10 and Mo Ager for #13, #33 and either Jack or Blake, although I'm not sure how it all works under the cap.

If there is actually a chance of a top 5 projected pick or talent falling to 10 then this deal should be dead and buried.

My prediction: This deal is dependent on whether Gordon falls to the Nets.

I'll tell you what, if Gordon is the guy that falls to #10, the Nets draft him and deal his rights to move down, and then draft Rush and Hibbert at #21, the relevant question will be: What use is the stathead they have on staff to look at video all day long?

This may also mean that the front office hasn't given up on Marcus Williams...they may want to give him another season to see what happens.

I think it's been reported that they have been heavily shopping him.

i damn sure dont want blake on this team. he is horrible. overpaid and horrible.

Blazer Deal Not Dead…and Nets Focus on Dorsey at #40
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (NetsDaily)</div><div class='quotemain'>Chad Ford and Adrian Wojnarowski report that the Nets are still considering sending either Mo Ager (Ford) or Trenton Hassell (Woj) to Portland along with their #10 pick in return for Steve Blake or Jarrett Jack and the Blazers’ #13 and #33 picks. The deal is dependent on what happens during the first nine picks. Meanwhile, Woj reports New Jersey has targeted Memphis center Joey Dorsey at #40.</div>

Yuck on Dorsey.

But that's nice that the deal's still not dead. I wonder what we're gonna do. I'd rather take the Blazers' newly acquired 27th pick, too....than the 33rd. Especially if we're giving up a young player with potential, like Ager.

But if we were to get two 2nd round picks...I wonder if it'd be possible to use those to move up even more.

Out of curiosity, why is this trade good? I mean, we give up our chief bait contract for an average player and to move down in the draft?

They're trying to move up, right? That should mean they are giving us something good, not unloading their crap on us while shedding salary themselves.
