Are we going to make a playoff push next season?...an improvement!? What!?
Or maybe those assistants didn't want to stick around and lose any longer?
Unfortunately you have to have stars to win. When you trade your only star away without getting a star in return and you're not a free agent destination then you are committing your team to sucking for, at the very least, multiple years. More than likely half a dozen years or more.Honestly what coaches would? Not when fans criticize them for their horrible win-loss record....when the mandate is to lose. It goes against their competitive nature. Coaches hate it, players hate it, and most fans hate the idea of sucking for multiple years for the small chance of landing a star.
I sincerely hope not. We need to get lucky on at least another couple lotto picks before we'll have enough talent to be on the path to becoming a serious contender. Are we going to make a playoff push next season?
Dammit, I didn't even get called for an interview.

We might be halfway through the required suck unless we get incredibly lucky and land a rookie all star in this draft or next.
Yep, I totally understand. It's a sucky situation. We need to do it well so we don't have to worry about it for a long time.Yeah, I realize the lottery is the best way to get a future star, but each year there is about an 80% chance we don't. And I doubt that the players and coaches (and most fans) like those odds.
Plus each year as we add young talent, we are going to get a little better and the odds of landing a star will get a little smaller.
As fans we might be able to stomach that, but not as a coach or player.
That's why you don't count your chickens before they're hatched. Embrace the suck as long as possible and trade whatever you can for as many of the best picks as possible. And then make sure you have great talent evaluation and developmental staff in place. With most lottery picks, like our last two, its takes probably 2-4 years to really know if we got lucky and got that star player.
I don't see that that necessarily follows. What it does mean is that if we get rid of Chauncey we're not going to be going for a "name" replacement.I guess this means Chauncey will be here this season. Wouldn't likely hire assistants and THEN move the HC.
Wouldn't a name replacement want to pick their own assistants, though?I don't see that that necessarily follows. What it does mean is that if we get rid of Chauncey we're not going to be going for a "name" replacement.
Didn't Bjorkren completely flame out in Indiana?
Re-read what I wrote and you'll see I agree with you.Wouldn't a name replacement want to pick their own assistants, though?
So at least the FO isn't COMPLETELY incompetentDammit, I didn't even get called for an interview.
I'll shut up and try to finish my coffee now!Re-read what I wrote and you'll see I agree with you.
Yeah his one year as HC the Pacers missed the playoffs. But then again he was not hired as an HC.
