You have to give to get. If that was New Orleans' absolute bottom line, then I believe you have to bite the bullet and do the deal. You can get by with a rehabbed Joel, Emeka, Camby and LMA in your front court.

In before Idog goes nuts.

J/K. :)

But yeah, I'd do it.

Simmons thinks Bos could offer a good deal. Cant say I disagree- Via Twitter.
Boston has the hammer offer if they want to make it: Rondo, Perkins, Sheed's ghost, No. 1 + 3m for CP3 + Okafor. NO has to say yes to that.

I came up with that trade in my head last night! Damnit, Simmons, get out of my head!
If I were Boston, I think I'd make that offer. If I were NO, I'd take it, but I'd trade Collison first while his value is high, because Rondo would take roughly 47 mpg.

I'm not sure Rondo isn't a better player than Paul (or at least, if he ever learnt to hit an open 18-footer). What are their head-to-head stats?

So let me get this straight.

Two young oft injured role players (Oden and Batum), a malcontent (Rudy), a player who doesn't fit with our star player and a pick in the lower first round for a superstar who is younger than Brandon Roy and the same age as LaMarcus Aldridge. How could anyone say no to this? Oden and Batum have a chance to be special, but Paul is already extremely special.

I would probably throw up a little bit in my mouth if we dealt Oden, but in the end, you HAVE to do this

No freaking way! You CANNOT trade Oden at this point. Don't forget that CP3 has had his injury issues too! Oden is our only shot at the LOB for the next 5 years regardless if we have CP3 or not!

how many times has Chris torn his ACL and/or had his knee scoped now? Last year he tore his meniscus & ACL but is that the only time? Anyone have a comprehensive rundown of the various surgeries dude has undergone?

regardless, getting his knee scoped is a more serious injury as far as a player's future is concerned then anything suffered by Greg or Nic

Yep. No matter how good a trio of Roy/Paul/LaMarcus would be, they won't be better than LeBron/Wade/Bosh. The only shot we have of beating that trio is if Oden becomes a superstar. Now, some would say there's only a 5% chance of that happening (others would say a 60%), but it's the only hope we've got.

In the past I considered giving up both Batum and Oden if Okafor came back, but I agree that is not necessary now. Actually i would prefer to give them Oden over Batum, he is such a question mark; it would be interesting to know the odds Las Vegas would give on him having a productive career. We could just give them their choice.

I'm starting to come around to this logic. Paul+Okafor totals about $27.5M; we'd have to send out over $22M to bring them back. Miller/Joel/Oden/Rudy totals $22.5, and might be enough to get them to bite. Leaves our 9-man rotation completely in tact, with Paul/Okafor replacing Miller/Oden. You've got to consider it, right?

Averages over the last 3 seasons...

Chris Paul: 38 minutes, 20.9 pts, 4.6 reb, 11.1 asst, 2.53 steals, 49.5% fg, 38.1% 3pt, 85.5% ft, 27.3 PER, 123.7 OFF RATING, 105 DEF RATING, .260 WinScore/48

Rajon Rondo: 33.2 minutes, 12.1 pts, 4.6 reb, 7.7 asst, 1.96 steals, 50.2 fg%, 26.3% 3pt, 62.5% ft, 17.8 PER, 110.7 OFF RATING, 100.7 DEF RATING, .162 WinScore/48

Rondo has a better defensive rating, but Paul is superior in every other area. He's just so much better offensively that it more than makes up for Rondo's better defense.

I wouldn't give up GO, no way, no how. CP3 is being quite outspoken on going to create a Big Super Three somewhere. Good chance he won't stay in Portland if he comes. In fact, I am moving to the point to where I don't give up NB or Oden. They can have any combination of the other players/picks and rights we have (excluding Roy of course). I ain't given up Batum for a year or two rental of Chris Paul. The only way I include Batum is if I can negotiate an extension with Paul prior to the trade.

Ok you've gone too far, you have GOT to give up one of LMA, NB or Oden. I wouldn't want to give up Oden but would straight across with minimal filler. I really wouldn't even offer that unless I was certain things would work out. Honestly, this is the MOST we could offer without involving redundancy (LMA) too many pieces for their roster (You could throw in Dante and Pendy) or involving a third team:

Portland Out:

JPEC
Miller
Bayless
Rudy
Batum
Camby

Portland In:

Okafor
Posey
CP3

Result for NOH:

It saves NOH Mega bank gives them a legit center in Camby for two years, a stud at the wing in Batum, a shooter in Rudy and combo guard in Bayless to either start or back up Rudy and Miller/Collison

PG: Miller/Collison/Bayless
SG: Rudy/Bayless
SF: Batum/Corpse of Peja
PF: West
C: Camby/eventually JPEC

Result for Portland:

PG: Paul/Johnson/Mills
SG: Roy/Matthews/Williams
SF: Matthews/Babbit/Dante/Posey
PF: LMA/Okafor/Pendergraph/Dante
C: Oden/Okafor/ Ekwebe? some other scrub?

That looks mighty fucking tasty to me and talk about a consolidation trade!

Oh you could throw in $3 million draft picks, rights to Euros etc. You could throw in Dante and Pendy for that Matter or Elliot Williams or one of the other rookies.

I don't think NO would want GO considering GO needs an extension this year and is up for a good chunk of change.

I would think NB would be their target, especially with Monty there but hopefully Cho can work some magic where that doesn't happen.

In Cho we trust?

If we had that lineup... Cho would be my favorit Asian of all time!!!

he would replace my favorite Asian ever as a teen... Tera Patrick lol.

Whoa, I said specifically that I wouldn't include GO or Batum unless I knew that CP3 would sign long term. That was also before there was a source saying Paul was in favor of Portland. So, let's get our facts straight before telling me I've gone too far. I don't mind being corrected, but please do it in the proper context.

I don't mind trading something to get something, but I want to be sure that we are not giving up "something" just for a rental like they do in Baseball. I am perfectly fine with giving up Batum to get Chris Paul. I grit my teeth for an Oden + filler for CP3, but I do it. I have come to the conclusion that I will not give up GO and Batum in the same trade for CP3, and if Portland does it (NB + GO) they shouldn't give them any important rotational players or salary cap relief IMO.

I would give up LA before Oden....

Batum, LA and change for Paul & Okafor should be the deal....

Okafor can play PF and better yet is a young guy who can back up at center, if Oden gets hurt again...and then there is also Camby who can play PF\C....That would be a nice 3-man rotation for the bigs with Oden\Camby\Okafor.....

Wes Matthews replaces Batum at SF, you have Cunningham still and the rook, Babbitt...

The upgrade of LA to CP3 far outweighs the negative of losing him.....Paul becomes the #1, Roy your #2 and Oden your #3...and ODen also becomes your ace in the hole against the Miami Heat, who have a bunch of old bigs on thier last legs, there could be a potentially big advantage for POR there...

I would not trade Batum and Oden for Paul...as much as I want POR to get him....I'd hate to see Batum go, but if that is the price to get a Top 5 PG, then you do it......I would try to avoid dealing Oden for CP3 at all costs....

Basically anyone is on the table except for Roy & Oden.....

Ok, my bad a misread on my part. I actually agree with you completely GO + NB is too much to give up. I wouldn't give up GO really or at least I would have to think so damn long and hard about it that CP3 would be traded somewhere else in the interim.

Again, it's not like it's someone directly connected with the team. They're being used by the Hornets to float a trial balloon. We replied by using Wendell Maxey saying that Cho didn't even want to give up Batum.

Ah, I love signalling.

You know I honestly think Portland has the best shot of anyone to land CP3. It's crazy I mean it's just crazy, but I have a feeling we might be the bad guys to the Heat's good guys and the bad guys have to win one or two to be taken seriously. You know just like in the original WWF. I'm speaking from a Stern media perspective.

the Blazers are the Stern media bad guys any time they're up against a major market team in the playoffs... Portland = TV ratings loser

I would like to point out that two of Paul's major injuries have come against the Portland Trail Blazers. He would never have to worry about that again! :)

I would not trade Oden. Batum ok, but not Oden.

Not in 2000 the WCF was one of the highest rated series since Jordan. Again sure we're the bad guys, but I can live with that if the bad guys win once in awhile.
