Who cares about that. They have no Fortune 500 companies. Or does that only apply to Portland
Doesnt matter if they have F500 companies or not. They got local investors wanting to purchase because of the business climate. If the city turns him off or doesn't or politicians get in the way the dynamic could change real quick.

Just saw article on MSN that said the buying group is looking to add more local investors including Columbia Sportswear and potentially Rip city forever members (group of local leaders wanting to keep Blazers in Portland). Great sign that he wants to keep them here. You don’t ask local businesses to be part of buying group unless they are staying

Turns out worrying about moving was worrying about the wrong thing. Should have realized conversion to another league was the real danger.

You never cease to amaze me

We need to make "Damn Donuts Ho" happen and put it next to an EggSlut and a Bacon Bitch! All your main food groups in one unholy trinity.

Come to think of it, a coffee shop next to them would be nice.

It could be called Coffee _________ fill in the blank .

Wait… This isn’t Family Feud?

A new (renewed) local business interest in the team/franchise probably will do wonders. I think there wasn't the warmest of relationships between local businesses and the Blazers (right or wrong). I hope there are far more opportunities for local businesses to be a part of things than there seems (perceived) to be.

A lot of that was the kind of smugness that Trader Bob and Neil Olshey had, and the distancing themselves from the community that happened. I think there's a lot of backlash from that still.

And until the team was sold/on solid footing, I wonder if local businesses/leaders were leery about hitching themselves to the Blazers wagon.

$4.25B is actually wild
$4,250,000,000 is ¥626,348,000,000

Also less than half of the Lakers?

Lakers $10B(2025)
Celtics $6.1B(2025)
Blazers $4.2B(2025)
Suns $4.0B(2023)
Clippers $2.0B(2014)

I think we have established that tanking the way some of you want does not get you a star. So whether you like it or not, they won't be tanking again for a while. I mean, look at this last season, one potential star, and he was grabbed by the team with he 11th worst record?
And as good as he is, I am not sure he can carry a team.
This has not been established at all. In fact stating it the way you did is misstating the the "tanking" position. I don't think anybody seriously wanted us to tank for one season in the hopes of landing a star who would save us.

That wouldn't work. 1 star isn't enough. You need more top end talent than that.

You think there was only one potential star in this draft?

I think you'll find that that is false.

We could certainly see immediate changes. I suspect we probably won't. He will probably want to dip his toes in, get accustomed to the team, and have a good footing before he makes his mark.

He was quick to make changes with the Hurricanes, but they were a dumpster fire. The Blazers have at least been making some good moves and building towards something. So, he might not be so quick to tear down the walls here.

He may want a more experienced GM or coach and make those changes, who knows. I could also see Joe and Chauncey selling him on their vision of the team going forward.
I'd be surprised if that conversation didn't already happen before he signed on the dotted line.

EDIT: If he's still putting the group together and won't take ownership until next year, then I'm changing my guess to he probably hasn't.

Sure, someone else often emerges. The point is, where was he drafted? At a spot where there was no reason to intentionally tank?

When I mentioned it could go for 5 billion people were scoffing at me not that they still aren’t but hey!!!! It’s back when Phil Knight made that lowball offer

Oh yes, that measly $2 billion

Those saying we don't have a star should define their opinion of star. To me a star is just under all star status. Deni is near that. Grant in good seasons is near that. Thats two stars right there.

so....basically you're saying there are 50-60 "stars" in the nba. It's like watering down the term 'elite' till it has no meaning.

it's pretty obvious that when people say the Blazers have no stars they're talking about elite players; all NBA players

looking at the finals teams, OKC had the MVP in SGA and a secondary star in Williams. Indy had Haliburton and a secondary star in Siakam.

The year before, Boston had a 1st team all-NBA in Tatum and a secondary star in Jalen Brown; Dallas had a 1st team all-NBA in Doncic and a secondary star in Kyrie Irving. Irving and Brown have combined for 13 all-star games

the year before, Denver had Jokic; Miami had 2 secondary stars in Butler and Adebayo who have combined for 9 all-star games....and they only won 1 game in the finals

the year before that, the Warriors won with Curry beating the young Boston team. The year before that it was Giannis with secondary star, Khris Middleton (3 allstar games) beating the Suns with Devin Booker + CP3 (16 all-star games). The year before, Lebron and AD won

so no, the Blazers do NOT have any elite stars like Lebron or AD or Giannis or Curry or Doncic or Tatum or Haliburton or SGA. They don't even have any secondary stars like Siakam or Brown or Kyrie or Butler or Adebayo or Booker

Deni will be 25 next season and he just had his best season when he averaged 17-7-4. He was 77th in points; 45th in rebounds; and 83rd in assists. He had a 1.44 assist/turnover ratio...that's not very good. Among 'qualified' players he ranked 57th in PER, only 1/10th of a point better than Payton Pritchard. Some of the players with better marks than Deni were Scottie Barnes, Desmond Bane, Josh Giddey, Cam Johnson, Austin Reaves, Amen Thompson, Isaiah Hartenstein, & Onyeka Okongwu.

I'm not saying Deni won't become an all star. But he does have quite a ways to climb and it just doesn't seem realistic to peg his upside as a top-10 player

I'm pretty sure he wont take ownership of the team until after this upcoming season.

well, if he already has submitted the winning bid all that's left is a vote by other owners. The board of governors met in Vegas in early July around summer league. They usually have meetings several time a year and usually meet a month or so before the season starts.

the change of ownership may be a lot sooner than you think

does anybody else think the phrasing of "agreed to buy for a valuation of over 4B" is pretty vague? I've never heard an actual sale been labeled that way. Maybe there's more details to be worked out...or somethin?

It's a synthesis of two pieces of information from two different sources. We know the team was bought, but not what the price paid was. But we do know the valuation of the team from other sources. So we get this monstrosity of journalistic malfeasance.

Isaac and Suke on The Fan are about to (4:00) interview someone who is affiliated with the Hurricanes to talk about our new owner.

Going to be interesting to see who the other owners are, besides the three mentioned?
