OT New TV Questions

Did or do you, allow your kids to have a television in their bedrooms?
We didn't and I didnt grow up in an era where kids did.

Heck, I grew up in an era where we had one TV and I was the remote. Now days, we all have multiple tv's throughout the house.

We bought a 50'' panasonic vieracast plasma in 2006 or 2007 - and amazingly it is still fantastic...

Only place you can notice it's age is by the fact it has only 1 hdmi and 1 usb input...

I just sold my 50" Pioneer plasma a few months ago and it was a 2007 model with a fantastic picture. Unfortunately it was heavy and was an energy hog compared to today's tv's. I am able to carry a newer slim 55" LED TV up my stairs by myself. Loved that plasma picture though.

I remember the days before TV. We would go to the home of my dad's friend to watch the fights on a tiny circular picture tube that was about 6 inches in diameter. I only had one TV in every place I lived until I was about 35.

I would love to transport the millenials back to our time as youngsters and see how they adapt with one small tv, no internet and no cell phones.

My first remote control was for an old Zenith TV that I bought when I returned to college after getting out of the Army. That remote was actually several tuning forks that made pinging sounds when you pressed these manual buttons. Still I thought it was so cool that I didn't have to walk across the room to change channels. The TV had a servo motor that went kerchunk kerchunk multiple times as it changed channels.

I bought a 43" Toshiba last night. Turns out you can buy tv's nowadays that are setup for streaming services only, and if you don't have any streaming services, you can't use the tv. This morning I exchanged it for a 40" Insignia. I have never owned one before. My brother says that his lasted 6 years or so, so hopefully I am good to go for a while.
