Went ahead and went the lower end model Samsung. 65” 4K.
The reviews were fantastic and to be totally honest, I couldn’t turn down the price.
Originally $900, BlackFriday deal $525, open box $400!!!!!
We have had very good experiences with open box products from Best Buy over the years.
Comes tomorrow.
Curious where am I going to find true 4K content? Not that big of a deal, just wouldn’t mind seeing what it looks like.

Upgrade your Netflix to the 4K.

Amazon Prime has 4K content.

On Netflix watch Marco Polo, great show but they also filmed on location with 4k cameras and the scenery is gorgeous.

On Amazon watch The Expanse. Great sci fi story. Season 1 starts a little slow but the payoff is great!

I love documentaries, going to try to find some. Thanks Sly.

Did you get the 7 series (NU7000) or 8 series (NU8000). Let me know and I can hook you up with some decent settings to get the most out of your picture.

What video game do you plan to play on it first?

7 series....... setting it up right now. Can't figure how to sign into my god damn appletv plus account on it!!!! Got Netflix/DisneyPlus and Prime up and working.

As far as video games, My son has a PS4 and XBOX. When moved out for college last year, he gave me his PS3 and like 30 games. It's hooked up, but I only end up playing like a couple times a year. Love those first person WWI games. Haven't hooked it up to the new tv yet.

okay, I am assuming you have the TU7000 set. If so, then here is a link to calibrate your tv. Follow it step by step and it should give you a pretty good picture. It will look a little dull at first but allow some time watching and your eyes will adjust to it.

If that's not the correct model then type the correct model in the search function from the rtings page with the word settings following the model number and the calibration settings should pop up for your set.

Also, do you have Comcast? If so, then you should exchange the box for a new 4k box and then once hooked up just say 4k into the voice remote and all content available in 4k from Comcast will be listed.

Please explain the difference. My tv has this.
HDR means high-dynamic range, and is the current "must-have" TV feature. TVs that support it can usually offer brighter highlights and a wider range of color detail, for a punchier image overall. ... HDR requires both a TV that supports it and special HDR content. HDR images can achieve brighter highlights with more contrast. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and refers to the contrast or color range between the lightest and darkest tones in an image. Pretty cool.
4K means 3840 horizontal x 2160 vertical pixels or a total of 8,294,400 pixels.

We're looking for a new bigscreen too. RTINGS.com is a site I like and they list the LG OLED as #1. Anyone know anything about LG or OLED? I haven't owned either.

The biggest thing with LG is make sure they can be worked on around where you live. I was told when My FIL was buying appliances for his new house there are no authorized LG repair people in Central Oregon so if there is a issue no way to get warranty work done on them.

I'm a Sony guy myself but I have to say Vizo TV's is pretty underrated. They are actually very nice and not so harsh on your wallet.

I love Sony too. They have an OLED that looks fantastic. Pricy, but fantastic.

I'm waiting for this TV to become just a tad more affordable before I'll upgrade.

@THE HCP you need to get Mrs. HCP to crank up the work load, bro!

That would be awesome

Yeah, I might have to reconsider putting away money for my kids’ education. Pst… they don’t need no stinking college and those liberal know-nothing-real-world-stuff elitists brainwashing them.

They can watch educational shows on that tv

LG is top dog right now. Sony #2. OLED is next level brightness (4x LED) and superior blacks. Only OLED I can afford right now is a 6" smart phone. :)

Got a Samsung four years ago, small but my house is small. It's worked fine for me. Just got Roku, as in arrived today and still in box. Hope to get rid of Comcast.

If you own a new Iphone, this 48" LG OLED isn't that much more. I'm thinking of getting one and using it as my monitor, but I'm not sure if burn-in is still an issue with these new models.

Because of the design of OLED tv's they are still prone to burn in much like plasma was. I was a plasma adopter originally as they always had a much warmer and more detailed picture similar to OLED but with the improvements to LED (mostly QLED) the gap is much smaller If you are an avid gamer I would suggest looking at some Samsung QLED tv's as they have a pretty spectacular picture as well at a lesser cost and don't have the burn in issues. I definitely would be cautious using an OLED for a computer monitor though as a lot of static images are displayed on computer screens.

We bought a 50'' panasonic vieracast plasma in 2006 or 2007 - and amazingly it is still fantastic...

Only place you can notice it's age is by the fact it has only 1 hdmi and 1 usb input...

Did or do you, allow your kids to have a television in their bedrooms?
We didn't and I didnt grow up in an era where kids did.

But you let them have a radio in the outhouse right?

lol...I actually remember hiding transistor radio with while in bed to listen to late Beaver baseball games. My mom always chastised me when I got caught.

I used to listen to Radio Mystery Theater hosted by EG Marshall.
