My very first thought was any change should be a return to some of the older looks. Hell, go all the way back to 1977, but go back.Modernization = bad
Take it back old school!
Me too, or at least the ugliest. I don't think they would change the pinwheel which would be the worst case scenario. Could you imagine though? There would be riots...I fear the worst
UNTILT THE PINWHEEL!!
The pinwheel is not tilted.
You’re leaning to the left too far. It will be perfect if you lean more to the right.
How do you modernize the damn pinwheel while keeping the same look?

This quote concerns me. Nike has a reputation for having great designers, but I think it's a reputation similar to Nate McMillan's reputation for being a great defensive coach, LA's reputation for being a great mid-range shooter, and all the other undeserved reputations throughout the league and life. Nike's design, IMO, is often lazy. Example - one of their chief designers was tapped to do the Star Wars x Pendleton blankets that were released in the run-up to TFA. While there's nothing inherently wrong with these, it feels like a missed opportunity for something that could have been awesome. I mean, it's basically some clip art with some standard geometric patterns interwoven. Can't imagine he spent more than an afternoon on these designs.Chris McGowan said:When you have the opportunity to work with create people like the folks at Nike, you’ve got to take advantage of that opportunity.
On the eve of the season I thought I'd post some designs I made while playing around in Illustrator. I'd prefer if we just used the typeface from the 80s, but it sounds like McGowan is intent on a new design. With that in mind I drew heavily from my favorite typeface, while making an obviously new typeface.

I threw together a new logo real quick, and wasn't sure I'd even share it. But the more I've looked at it the more it has grown on me. Obviously some outlining could be added to give it more depth/detail, but I haven't had a chance to dress it up yet. With the original 5 arms of the pinwheel representing the 5 players of each team squaring off, the bar connecting the tips represents the bench backing up the 5 players on the floor.

I need that on my wall in a 12x12 version.
Like now.
God, we unequivocally have the best logo in sports.
Thank you thank you! Do it!!!It's so good I'm - Hand to God - considering a tattoo of it.
After I fix it I'd be happy to send you file in whatever size you'd like for printing.I need that on my wall in a 12x12 version.

Outstanding job! Its probably a dumb idea but your lettering looks like it could easily incorporate an abstract Mt. Hood right in the middle. It sorta kinda looks that way now.....and I couldn't figure out how the pinwheel could ever be dressed up....other than untilting it....but you hit it on the head! Great idea! Tell McGowan you'll do the redesign for a fraction of Nike's price.......View attachment 10472 On the eve of the season I thought I'd post some designs I made while playing around in Illustrator.
