Oden, who had his latest medical checkup two weeks ago, has trimmed his weight down to the "low 280s," approaching where the team would like him to play next season.

That sounds a bit heavy to me I'd like to see him back at his college weight of 255

What do you mean, no news???

He was supposed to be ready for training camp, and now he might not be ready

The way I look at it is this, the organization under Cho has a completely different approach to handling injuries and timetables than it did under KP. If this was Pritchard, we'd be getting a steady stream of status updates based on a healthy diet of sunshine pumping and marketing.

We may not like the uncertainty, but I prefer this tack.

Show me where it says that.

Oden and the Blazers have maintained that the 7-foot center's rehab was on schedule and he was poised to return for October training camp
Cho, who watched Oden work out two weeks ago at the practice facility in Tualatin, refused to reveal when Oden is scheduled to begin running full-speed, or when Oden plans to resume basketball activities. Cho also wouldn't definitively say how much Oden intends to participate in training camp.

Nowhere does it it say he's behind schedule. The article says a whole lot of nothing.

"I don't know if he'll be ready to go full-speed ahead when training camp starts, but our hope is that he'll be ready to participate in training camp," Cho said. "I don't know if that will include full contact (work). It depends on his progress."

...

"I don't really want to put any time frame on it," Blazers general manager Rich Cho said, regarding Oden's return. "I don't want any expectations out there. And I don't want to put any pressure on Greg. The last thing I want him to do is come back earlier (than he should) because people are expecting it."

Whole article boils down to this quote. Tempering expectations and keeping the pressure off.

Luckily it's only Oden's 3rd season, and the Blazers don't have to make a decision on him this summer.

Cho is much more tight lipped. I like it.

Well actually, he kind of contradicted himself already on Oden. Everything was looking good back in July according to him, and now he is pulling back from the expectations that he and Nate helped build with their comments at the time.

But, he's learning!

Hopefully, what he is learning is that he needs to take a hard look at the Portland medical/training staff.

When the Suns can keep their old coots healthy, and the Blazers can't keep their young guys on the court, that might give some people pause.

What was Cho saying about Oden that helped build him up?

Maybe some people, just not rationale ones.

"He's on track for everything," Cho said. "Greg is working hard and we're pleased with his rehab efforts."

How is that contradicting himself?

This I agree with. You could get a lot of bang for your buck in this area. A cheap way to improve, keep your guys healthy. Dieticians, yoga, pilates everything you can use to help keep your players healthy and limber.

Joe Freeman wrote that? That comes from the school of JQuick or Crapzano.

Uh, how do I turn the no news into bad news? Oh I got it!

Obama once said the sun will burn out one day but we haven't heard anything back from the sun so we must assume it is dying.

That surprise me too. I was making a reply to a post on MB's blog and at first wrote that that was typical Quick type of spin, but decided to double check and make sure it was by him and surprise it wasn't. They must be wearing off on him or the editors are asking for that type of spin. I mean if there is nothing new you have to add your own spin to make it news, right?

In June, Blazers coach Nate McMillan told The Oregonian that Oden was scheduled to start running in mid-July and would begin playing two-on-two or three-on-three games by mid-August, with a goal of returning to five-on-five action by the first week of September...

Cho, who watched Oden work out two weeks ago at the practice facility in Tualatin, refused to reveal when Oden is scheduled to begin running full-speed, or when Oden plans to resume basketball activities. Cho also wouldn't definitively say how much Oden intends to participate in training camp.

In McMillan's schedule, in order to barely have just a weak training camp, Oden had to have advanced from running to scrimmages by now. But Cho says he hasn't mastered running.

So, it's pure coincidence and random chance that players like Hill and Shaq who had long injury histories stayed healthy with the Suns? Pure coincidence that Nash is still playing well at his age? And when players like Shaq praise their staff as the best they have ever worked with, they are just lying?

But only an irrational person would point that out - right?

Yeah Pretty Much. You really think Orlando's trainers were the reason that Grant Hill had to have 5 ankle surgeries? I would think that the Orthopedic Surgeons would be higher up on the list to question than the team trainers.

I think a good trainer is important. But to blame them for the Blazers problems does not seem logical to me.

More recently, Oden has declined interview requests from The Oregonian, saying he'd prefer to talk about his rehab and playing status when training camp starts. Meanwhile, the Blazers do not want athletic trainer Jay Jensen discussing Oden's rehab with the media.

Sometimes, no news is good news. Sometimes, no news is B A D news. If this is the latest news, I have nothing to change my opinion that we see Oden in 20 games this season.
