Lav and Housely axed
Next coach won’t matter if Drury is still here. Lav and Housley needed to go, but Drury definitely needs to be shown the door as well. He has proven he was not ready for this job as many had said from the start.

1000000000000000000% spot-on. I have no issue at all firing Lav and Housley after this trainwreck of a season, but keeping Drury negates most of the impact. How Drury can keep his job after two embarrassing seasons in 3 seasons, AND get to hire a 3rd coach in 5 seasons, is so far beyond any logic it's crazy. Maybe the answer is Dolan is awful, so that's how Drury keeps his in over his head job. What Pres/GM gets to hire 3 coaches in 5 seasons and keeps their job, joke. Just like I said though, that's what will happen, the coaches fired and Drury will keep his job, I knew that would happen and Dolan didn't have the commonsense to fire Drury as well.

Some comments I read:

Owner James Dolan and Drury are expected to start the search for a full-time head coach soon, and roster changes are all but certain in the coming weeks and months.

Sources said the Rangers would like to interview several candidates from outside of the organization, including Mike Sullivan and Rick Tocchet if they are available, Joel Quenneville, John Tortorella, Jay Woodcroft, Jay Leach and David Carle.

Sullivan would be at the very top of my list if the Pens fire him, but I do not think they'll be stupid enough to do that. I can almost 100% guarantee you Sullivan will be the Rangers coach if he gets fired.

Outside of him, not sure who is the favorite to get the job. Quenneville would be near the top of the list if he is past his issues. I have no interest in Woodcroft, Leach, or Carle. I can see Tocchet, if he gets fired by Vancouver, being in the mix. Torts is the unknown, his act really wears on teams, and I was reading it has worn thin with the whole league. I doubt it will be Torts. I like his tough mindset and attention to detail on D, but he's too abrasive and all D black and blue to be the right guy IMO. I'd be surprised if he is the guy.

Outside of that group, not sure who else will be in the mix.

Not surprised but the last two coaches were 193-105-30. It’s on Drury now 100% no excuses. Win or get the hell out.

Torts would be a TERRIBLE fit here. We have young players we want to play and he HATES playing young guys. Dump keeps talking about bringing in Torts but I think her forgets how Torts benched young guys ALL the time and played vets over them at every chance.

If they keep playing merry-go-round coaches, they’re all just play the veterans.

Do your research moron. The young kids with Torts and not working is bullshit. Go back to the team when he was coaching the Rangers. I gave you a list of kids that were on that team and he taught all of them how to play hard, play defense and protect your goalie. Stepan, Callahan, Dubinsky, Staal, Girardi, McDonagh. It goes on and on. What got him fired was gee. What a shock. Kreider and the way he coached him. Now look at things. Maybe pussy Kreider was the problem. Tortorella will be the next coach for the Rangers and will save us. Pussies like Zibanejad and Kreider will instantly waive their NMC and NTC's and Drury knows it. Thus freeing him up to change the team. Fox and Lafreniere will be put in their place for lazy play. K. Miller will be horsewhipped and if he doesn't improve, he will get moved.

I agree, I don't see Trots as having a realistic shot at the job. There are much better and less abrasive options, who also are tough minded, hold players accountable, and focus on D, the Rangers can hire (Torts is certainly not the only coach with those traits). I also agree not sure it really matters, because as expected Dolan is keeping awful Drury, 3 coaches in 5 seasons is almost unheard of for one Pres/GM wow, but again I digress.

We should all be hoping the Pens do something very stupid and fire Sullivan, he would be by far # 1 on my list if that happens. Outside of Sullivan, I have no clue who the next coach will be.

Let’s hire Torts so the kids learn how to play defense and horse whip the vets. What a wonderful idea. The only way I bring back Torts as an assistant coach maybe

It’s amazing how fucking stupid you people are on your own team. This team was a fucking embarrassment defensively. They have no desire to block shots to protect their goalie. They are lazy up and down the roster. There is absolutely no accountability for making mistake mistakes. Tortorella is absolutely the right coach for at least two years. He will also force the two douchebags to accept trades, which is absolutely crucial.

I would bring in Torts just to get rid of Zibanedouche and Kreider. Not to mention, watching him, terrorize that lazy fuck Lafreniere. There is no way those two veterans will have any desire to stay on this team with him coaching. Plus, he is the kind of coach that loves tough two way physical players like he had when he was coaching the Rangers early on. Cuylle, Schneider, Othmann, Roobroeck, Rempe, Edstrom. These young players fit what he likes to an absolute T. The other veteran pussies, not so much.

Honestly there is no point of arguing here. Moron GM is still here who will be making the decision at the end of the day.

Helkeschmuck sucking moose dong again in the playoffs. Best goalie my ass that guy is a choker.

If Winnipeg doesn't at least make the Final this year that has to be a huge disappointment.

I agree the Rangers are an embarrassment defensively, they have no desire to block shots, they are lazy up and down the roster, and there is absolutely no accountability for making mistake mistakes. I won't disagree with any of that. What I am curious about though is why is Torts the only coach who can come in and try to change that mindset. The Rangers should focus on solving those issues, holding players accountable being a HUGE issue, but I don't think it's Torts or bust, other coaches can/do focus on those things as well.

I agree on Hellebuyck. I don't know how you can possibly even think about him being the best goalie in the NHL when he has NEVER EVER done jack in the playoffs. It's crazy when I hear people say he's the best, no way. They need to at least make the WCF as was stated above, and I may say at least the SCF to save any credibility as a team, and for Helle to be considered a top goalie.

Alot of people seem to want David Carle.
Put me in the very skeptical bucket on this one. He seems like a fine coach, who has done a lot of very good things at Denver, but I just cannot see the Rangers hiring a college coach with no NHL experience, on top of that the guy is 35. I'll say right now, I'd be shocked if he is their choice.

I could definitely see Drury hiring a college coach, especially if they're leaning toward more of a rebuild than going for it next year. They're kind of stuck between the two.

They’re not gonna fucking rebuild next year and give their first pick away and make it be a top five pick

Looks like they might give the job to Peca or Muse. Iam ok with that. Don’t know why they just did not give the job to either one during the season

If you’re OK with that, you should be taken out and have your balls cut off.

Right, but I could still see Drury going the college route. Carle seems like the only guy they'd consider there.

lol oh no let’s hire old fart Torts so he can teach the kids how to play defense and protect Igor. lol And horsewhip Mika and Miller lol

I will respectfully strongly disagree with you on both counts.

1. I cannot see Drury hiring a 35-year-old totally unproven no NHL experience coach. I simply don't see it. I'd be shocked if Drury does it.
2. I don't think they are stuck between the two at all. With the Pens owning their 1st round pick next season, there is a -10000000000% chance Drury is leaning towards a rebuild. There is absolutely no chance in the whole entire world Drury is going to do that. I may have never felt more strongly about anything related to sports in my life. Even if the Pens didn't own the Rangers 1st round pick next season, there would still be absolutely no shot Drury would lean towards a rebuild.

With that said, if they stink again next season, selling at the trade DL is a totally different story. Panarin, and others will be out of here for sure.

Reading this article and Drury's comments, it is so clear this guy is in way over his head. I know I keep saying that, but I am flabbergasted how this guy keeps his job. From what I can tell it is amateur hour all the time, and he comes across as clueless quite often. If the Rangers only had a real owner, there is no shot in hell he'd still be the Pres/GM of this team. As others have written, as long as this guy is running the show, hopes for making the right aggressive moves are very low.

Chris Drury not limiting Rangers coaching search after Peter Laviolette firing

I’m not so sure Drury is going to survive after the exit interviews which Dolan is sitting in on.
