NFL Draft

The one who impressed me the most has yet to be drafted - Andy Dalton from TCU.

I actually like Ricky Stanzi myself. But no QB is the Suh-equivalent in this year's draft.

Sounds awful but I actually want to trade McCoy (if he doesn't improve) for some good starters and tank the season for Andrew Luck.

I like the haul my Browns got, but it's slightly disappointing at the same time. I feel like they're a team with a lot of holes, so it looks to make sense to plug those holes with a lot of picks. But by moving down, it seems you're plugging those holes with not as good of players. It's always nice getting an extra first. But it'll be an awfully late one. The extra 2nd this year is nice. But I'm pissed we then turn around and tyrade away a 3rd rounder to move up 6 spots back in the first. Doesn't seem worth a 3rd rounder to me.

I dunno. I guess the future will decide, but I just feel like landing an impact player at the top would be more valuable than moving down for additional later picks. I am bummed Peterson didn't slip to us, for sure.

Sorry, but accuracy is a skill that comes natural. He's a major reach. If you can't complete a pass, you're never going to make it in the NFL, especially considering that he's going to be throwing under duress most of the time. It helps that he has Chris Johnson in the backfield with him though.

I disagree. It depends on why you weren't as accurate as you should have been in college.

Not gonna make excuses for him, but his offensive line was horrible and he rarely stayed in the pocket because of that. He can make the proper reads, he's got good athleticism, and he's an extremely hard worker. That's all you really need.

Look at Jamarcus Russell who very well may been the perfect prospect. His arm made Stafford's and Cutler's look like high school arms. He had a very accurate arm from 50 yards in too, but he couldn't find hot routes, rarely trained, and was content being a millionaire.

Yeah, i'll take the guy that'll work for it, not matter what his deficiency.

What do you want for McCoy? I think he'd be decent in SEA.

Yes, another Browns fan! Thats 4 on this board.

And Heckert's plan al along was AJ Green or Patrick Peterson. He was enamored with both and if neither fell to the 6th pick, we were trading down. I couldn't be happier with the trade because we got another first (next year) and another second (this year) and fourth. Phil Taylor wasn't a flashy pick, but I think he could be a solid starter for many years with Athyba Rubin.

Not gonna lie, I really, really wanted Patrick Peterson.

TJ Ward bitches!

The homer in me is telling me he could be the next Drew Brees. Watch the games, with the absolutely shittiest receivers, he made perfect deep throws and moved the chains in a run-first offense. Now that we've switched to the WCO, you're gonna see his numbers explode.

As to who I want for him, a monster DE or OLB. I've wanted a Clay Matthews-type guy for years.

I thought Cleveland's draft moves were pretty excellent. As a 49ers fan, I kinda wish they had done that kind of deal. I like Aldon Smith (though I was disappointed at first), but in this draft, with Peterson off the board, I think it's wiser to play to the talent depth of the first three rounds rather than put most of your eggs in the basket of a top-ten pick.

Yeah, there were only 4 blue chippers in this draft (Green, Peterson, Miller, Dareus) and if we didn't get one of them, the smart thing to do was fall back.

Glad to see my Skins trade down. I hope they use one of those 2nd rounders to trade down further. We need bodies, not high draft picks.

The Bengals just picked Andy Dalton. Nice pick. AJ Green and Andy Dalton are good picks for a team that has a decent defense.

I'm shuddering thinking about what is running through Al Davis' mind right now, although I'm happy he didn't trade next year's #1 to NE to draft Colin Kaepernick, which I was dreading would happen.

Minstrel, the 49ers just took Colin Kaepernick. Wow!! Didn't see that one coming.

not able to watch right now unfortunately. I see Denver isnt/didnt picking 4th.. did they trade down?

I was actually hoping for Kaepernick in the second. I think his physical upside is huge, nearly as high as Cam Newton, but I'm much more comfortable gambling a second round pick on raw upside than a top-ten pick. I was hoping he'd fall to the 49ers' pick, I didn't expect them to trade up in the round for him. Hopefully that means that Harbaugh really likes him and believes he can develop him into a top-flight NFL quarterback.

I just find it a bit odd that the 49ers would pick another spread/pistol QB to potentially replace Alex Smith.

D'Quan Bowers, Stephen Paea, Justin Houston, Brooks Reed, and Titus Young are all still available. I hope one of them falls to #48, with Bowers or Reed being my preferred pick, followed by Paea and Houston.

Most college quarterbacks don't come from a pro-style offense, though it's definitely a bonus if they do. I don't think Kaepernick is all that similar to Smith, despite the spread-em-out offenses they come from. More importantly, they have someone in place (hopefully long-term) to develop Kaepernick. They never really put Smith in a position to succeed, with a different OC every season until this one (and when he finally gets one for two straight seasons, it's the inept Jimmy Raye under the simplistic philosophy of the equally inept Mike Singletary). I don't think Alex Smith was worth the #1 pick, but I also don't think he was developed properly.

Kaepernick is an athletic freak with a ton of upside as a passer, and he'll have a pretty well-respected developer of quarterbacks in Jim Harbaugh from Day 1. He's nothing close to a guarantee, but I think it's a nice situation.

Now I'm hoping that Mallet falls to the Raiders, just so I can be disappointed in Al for drafting him.

Last year's draft was too good to be true, so something has to mess up this year's, doesn't it?

That said, I think Jake's Accuracy % is one of the more overblown stats in this draft. IIRC, it's gone up almost 10% since he's been at UW (which would tend to repudiate your claim that accuracy is a natural skill).

I guess I should have expanded a bit. Yes, accuracy % can increase as comfort level of the playbook increases, and the playcalling gets more conservative.

Where Locker is going to struggle is throwing within the pocket. He not a good passer. He's not a natural thrower. He reminds me a lot of Brady Quinn when he throws the ball. That's not a good thing.

He's great outside of the pocket and looks much more comfortable on the move. But he's going to get killed in the NFL if he tries to do that too much.

We'll see how it turns out in 3-4 years, but I think he busts.

Locker has an NFL arm, while Quinn has a noodle for an arm. That said, I don't think that it's a good thing that Locker is most accurate while running. The guys chasing him in the NFL will be a lot bigger and faster than what he saw while scrambling at UW. He's a project, and I hope Tennessee has the patience to let him develop.

Is Al suddenly becoming smart again? The Wiz Kid is a solid pick in a position of need. Plus, his uncle gets to coach him.

What's funny is that I'm petrified that my Seahawks will now take Mallet. I should have kept my stupid mouth shut.

Da'Quan Bowers was a nice get for Tampa Bay. His potentially degenerative knee condition is a big worry but Tampa evidently decided, and I agree, that the reward finally outweighed the risk at that pick. He was in the argument for #1 pick overall until the knee concerns. He's a huge talent.

Was this pick a reach? As a R's fan I'm damn happy we got some OL help and although he was a top 2/3 ranked C most places seemed to agree the C from Florida Hudson was better.

That said, Lil Wiz measured out bigger and more athletic plus it has the gimmick of being a Wisniewski. No brainer for Al.

Agreed, plus, you look at their first two rounds the last two seasons, they have added McCoy and Price at the DT spot, and now Bowers and Clayborn at the ends. Nice work.

We traded down. Not sure what we got. At least we didn't draft Mallet.

we ended up basically trading 57 for 75 and 104, and minor swaps of 5th and 7th rounders. And I won't breathe easy until Mallet's off the board
