Nic Batum sucks (1 Viewer)

I don't expect Batum to ever be an all star. But I do expect him to consistently rate an 18+ per while guarding the other teams best wing player every night. Would that make him above average?

So, If I understand correctly, some people hate Batum because they think he's going to get paid too much this summer? Why not let the market decide before getting our panties in a bunch?

I don't think Batum is the kind of player who is going to take over games by himself. If someone is waiting for him to do that, they are in for a long wait. I do think he is a player who would excel in the right situation, and that includes playing with a decent fucking point guard and a coach who uses him to his strengths and gives him a useful assignment while he's on the court.

Batum wants 9 million per yr. So yes its fucking ridiculous for him to want that. He shouldnt get pd much more than a wilson chandler. You dont pay 9 million a year in this cba for a 4th option

I was wondering about this the other day. Everyone keeps saying he wants $9mil/yr. I don't remember where that number came from. Did his agent say that? Someone at the Blazers? A reporter with inside information?

Kenny vance stated that at the meet and greet

I guess it was a reason we didnt come to terms on an extension

Thanks. That's even a little rich for my blood. I hope they sign him for less, or do a S&T. If he keeps playing the way he has, one would hope the market and the new CBA will set his price lower.

Ive mentioned before that if/when we can get our team back to a level of serious contention he is exactly the kind of "glue player" that every championship team needs. And that comes as a bonus because he is much more skilled at that glue position that most of those players tend to be. I think he still has some room to improve. If he was played more consistently and correctly (thats on the coach) and played more aggressively (thats on him) i think that he COULD be a #2 option but I would hope that on a championship caliber team that he would be a great #3 option with the ability to have the occasional #1 option kind of game. So with that said Im willing overpay a little but not a lot.

I want to go on record to say that Nolan Smith does suck.

This. Batum is unfortunately our second best player. He is not a No. 2 on a contender though. With the right team, he is a No. 3 or at least damn good No. 4. Since it takes more than 2 players to field a team, I say we keep him. He is a rich man's 'glue guy'. Seriously, without Bobby Gross, the Blazers wouldn't have a championship. The market will determine what Batum's worth, not message board geeks. :)

Precisely.

And repped.

There will be teams tripping over themselves to pay Nic 9 million a year to have him........ we better be willing to or we will lose him and Jamal Crawford will be our starting 3 next year...... oh ya he's leaving....... Luke Babbitt will be our starting 3 then.

That's a very scary perspective. You should be Nico's agent.

If a team is dumb enough to offer him 11 per, then let him walk. I'm fine with a 9 per contract.

I'd only be OK with $9M because there's still a chance (that's getting smaller by the day) that he might be more than just a role player.

KP used his genius and wisely set up a similar contract for Aldridge and now Adridge is a bargain.

Anymore than $9M probably wouldn't be worth it. $9M is a risk as it is.

What the hell is a "glue guy" anyway? A mediocre player who takes up space? Why pay 9 mil for a guy like that when you can get a similar player for much less, an Ime Udoka type. Save your money for players that are actual difference makers. Someone is almost always willing to over-pay for someone....so let them.

Id rather have a thabo sefolosha type at half the cost. Batum isnt worth 9 million. 6 to 7 ok. But 9 mil is funny.

Can't disagree with any of that

Batum certainly has a higher ceiling

But seems too soft to reach it.

Batum doesn't have the 1st step or ball handling prowess to be much of a penetrator. He's weak-sauce inside, so his game is pretty much jump shots. His defense is really over-rated as well. He's can stop penetration and block shots, but he loafs around, doesn't go after rebounds etc... He's a scrub.

I don't think it's his motor, but lack of any sort of ability to break his defender down that is holding him back.

I was more getting at the fact that guards pack his shot at the rim regularly is telling

Still remember when Nic had a wide open basket against OKC for the win yet he was blocked by Westbrook. Soft.

Ok, so you think we should spend a 9 million dollar "glue guy". And your reasoning is that without Bobby Gross we wouldn't have won a championship? WTF?? LOL!!

If he's the 2nd best player on the Blazers, that's just a sign of how badly we suck. If we give guys contracts based on your stategy, we may as well re-sign Felton to 9 mil, because he's the best PG we have, and resign Crawford to 9 mil, because if the Mavs didn't have Jason Terry, they wouldn't have won the title.

His defense definitely is overrated.

He loses his man way too many times on defense for him to be to be looked at as some +defender.

Actually, I stated I thought it was too much considering how he's been playing.

Exactly.
As for the rest of your drunken rant.

Well, I'm not going to disagree with you, but I think it's hard to have the same kind of fire as the Thunder when you're on one of the worst teams in the league and you're getting destroyed by one of the best teams in the league.

Despite what you and noah think, we aren't one of the worst teams in the league.

Yes we are King. We just barely beat the BENCH UNIT of one of the worst teams in the league at home. The Blazers are abysmal.
