I thought that a player first meets Stern when he shakes his hand on the stage on TV. But the article says that Stern hosts a lunch hours earlier.

After a 90-minute luncheon with David Stern, at 2:15 p.m., Lillard gets some privacy. It'll be the last time he has to himself, outside of sleeping, for the next few days. Lillard's brought a crew of 48 people to New York City, and from the minute he gets drafted until he flies out of New York City, all of those people are going to want his time and attention.
