At that age I had a library card and read tons of books and the Sunday paper ...didn't watch TV, still don't and there was no internet...no problem gaining insight and creating my own opinions...working for the Navy opened my eyes to Nixon....people talked about the state of the world face to face without feeling a need to link articles to the conversations....original thought...a dying art form in my view. The greatest thinkers in history were for the most part...well read loners. Wisdom comes purely from experience ...young folks would do well to go out and experience the world and opportunities ..those that do will eliminate a lot of problems at an early age. Those that don't will just practice bitching about problems all throughout life with no solutions in sight...

At 26, I run a construction company with my father. Not something I love to do but very good money. You can think what you want of me, that's fine. If you or anybody else here met me in person, 100 percent you would like me. I backed off from this forum, too much stupid shit being repeated over and over. Probably was a mistake to engage in this one. I am smart. I am young. I don't claim to know everything. I have room to grow as does everybody else. However I have pretty firm views at this point and strong opinions. I don't know how anything I said was derogatory, maybe I missed it. My debate as well as barfos have done nothing. Neither has most of these threads. Nobody gets anywhere with each other here. So yes, it's pointless and stupid

He's got years and years to learn and change. I used to be a staunch Conservative Republican. I even attended a YAF (Young Americans for Freedom) meeting. Now look at me.

If we want to guide him in a positive way and be productive rather than counter productive, our feedback must be acceptable and it's going to take time. While I'm always tempted to rush it, I'm feel certain that low and slow is the way to go.

Cup, you know I like and respect you, always have, so I implore you to be patient with this very nice young man on my behalf. He's young. Do you remember being young? I do and I've had a lot to learn, unfortunately a lot of it was via the school of hard knocks.

You mentioned 3 professors who are apparently exceptions to your usual view of professors being somewhat more evil than Satan. Only one of them I'd ever heard of, so I looked the other two up. So, I learned something about them and their views. So I don't think it was pointless and stupid.

Similarly, I learned something from DaLincolnJones in another thread today, about an incident with Brennan in 2012. I haven't completely figured out what it is I've learned on that one yet, but it's something to look into further.

As soon as you put some bumper sticker or window sticker supporting something, someone who feels strongly against your belief is going to key your car, slash the tires or break a window.

At present, I have disabled Veteran license plates and an Oregon State University license plate holder and nothing else. I'm contemplating putting on an Anyone But Trump bumper sticker 'cause there are a lot of us and I feel so strongly about it.

I understand how it can be viewed that way. I think the reasoning is this forum has a lot of people from the left and a couple are kinda ultra progressive left. I usually have strong opinions against that so then it seems as if I’m conservative. Really I just have views from the left and right I agree with and views from both sides I also disagree with.
