No way around it, we miss Blake and bayless is pathectic

GP was a lock down defender from day one. If Bayless could find that, the comparison would be valid. He will develop a jumper over time.
some thick skulls today... I'll try again

Gary's college days were while I was at Oregon and I saw him play every chance I could. Dude is my all time favorite player... trust me I wasn't comparing these two as talents or PGs. I merely brought him up as an example of another similar sized physical guard who started his career struggling with his outside shot. His 3 point shooting was 8% and 13% respectively those first two seasons. Teams backed off him covering the passing lanes daring him to clang another much the same way teams now back off Jerryd. I can definitely recall the bust talk on GP during this time.

But by his 3rd season dude was able to significantly improve his outside threat and he made the All Star game his 4th. Having guys playing up on him to take away his jumper let him take them off the dribble for scoring and drive and dish opportunities. I'm not saying that Jerryd has GP potential, but if he can get the D to fear his jumper it would give him similar opportunities to get by his man and create some havoc. If dude doesn't continue to improve from the outside it's going to really limit his effectiveness.

I saw every single game gp played at osu. I do have a thick skull, it's an asset. If bayless doesn't develop a jumper he doesn't have much hope. If he develops a shot and defense, he would be an amazing talent.

does anyone remember when Gary Payton came into the league? Though he had a world of physical ability, he couldn't keep anyone honest with his jumper. The D would slump into the paint and dare him to shoot. It wasn't until his 3rd year in the league that he shored up this weakness to an acceptable level... the rest is history.

It's not a given that Jerryd's jumper improves a similar amount, but if he can bring it up he will be a very tough combo guard for anyone to handle. If he can't improve this weakness it will continue to limit his effectiveness and minutes no matter where he's playing.

Jerryd came into the league 2 years younger then GP. It's expected that some posters want to bail on him early as he hasn't set the world on fire... hell, it seems we have a tar and feathers mob gather for sacking a different youngin following every other game. Whatever... :rolleyes2: I look forward to seeing what JB does with the opportunity before him the next couple of seasons.

Good point.

The ignore feature is useless, mods. Congrats for continuing to enable the troll.

Why are you in a thread he started and POSSIBLY expecting the ignore feature to have any impact on anything?

You crack me up.

Way to miss my point, but since mods seem to lose about 50 IQ points upon being granted the power, I suppose I'll have to explain that the ignore feature should allow me to not have to read the troll's regurgitated bullshit via his thread titles that I CAN'T ignore, but it doesn't.

And your constant coddling and enabling of his consistantly trollish behavior is a fairly sad representation of the treatment S2 has for it's posters. First O-Live, then ESPN, then BBL, now here. I wonder where the next message board to go to hell will be?

We're skeptical that seeing thread titles you don't like will do significant emotional damage to you. In other words, we think you, and everyone here, is tough enough to handle thread titles.

There is a Firefox add-on that will remove everything by a poster from your vision, including threads. I've linked it a few times. If you're interested, let me know and I'll dig it up.

I don't think very many people have a problem ignoring those that they don't like (and I mean ignoring of their own volition, not via fancy, '00s technology). There are plenty of people on the Internet who's opinions I dislike. I just scroll past.

Trolls live to generate responses. You provide those response (directly to him or indirectly by complaining about him). Why are you enabling him?

I don't have the ability to stop his trolling. You do. Your argument is fail.

I don't have the ability to stop his trolling.

Sure you do. Trolls exist to get angry responses. You giving him what you believe he wants encourages him. Your choice as to whether you wish to do that.

I don't, actually. None of us moderators has the authority to ban people simply because their basketball takes are unpopular. Nor would I, even if I did have that authority.

Do you at least get cool gear?

So you admit he's a troll. Congratulations, you've just invalidated your entire argument that he's simply a "basketball fan posting unpopular views", which is a complete crock of ostritch-level denial.

So you also admit that you completely ignore your own terms of usage due to the fact that you don't want to get your hands dirty, which is what mods have to do sometimes in the interest of the good of the community.

Why does every message board devolve into this?

So you admit he's a troll.

I don't know if he's a troll. My point is that if you believe he's a troll, then it's odd that you choose not to abide by the "don't feed the trolls" maxim. It leads one to wonder whether you actually believe he's a troll. You don't act like you believe he's one. ;)

So you also admit that you completely ignore your own terms of usage

As long as he's posting about basketball, I'm not going to equate "consistently unpopular opinions" with "not posting in good faith."

In any case, this is getting a bit repetitive. In the interest of sparing everyone else our back-and-forth, feel free to continue this discussion with me (or any other moderator/admin) via PM, if you wish.

Minstrel was simply saying that you are playing into his hands, if you truly believe he is a troll. Trolls want reactions, if you believe he is a troll, why give him what he wants?

I haven't been at any of those places. Maybe you, and not the moderators, are the problem.

Have you considered that?

Maybe so but the mods have helped to derail this particular thread. Very annoying.

Dunno--Chris in PDX started attacking the mods; were they just supposed to ignore him...the same way they suggest he ignore MIXUM...?

Hmm, now that I think about it...

There's no contradiction, as you imply. I recommended that Chris in PDX ignore MIXUM if he considers MIXUM a troll and that bothers him. To "take my own advice" I should ignore Chris In PDX if I feel he's a troll and that bothers me.

I don't think he's a troll, though, and he doesn't bother me. So why should I ignore him "the same way [we] suggest he ignore MIXUM?"

Good effort, though!

Ultimately, if we ignore posters who bring up how the forum is moderated, we'll be accused by some of not being willing to discuss such issues, avoiding honest discussion. If we engage such posters, we'll be accused by some of helping to "derail" threads. So, since we're not going to please all the people all the time, we provide our opinions when we feel like it, like anyone else.

I mean it was a dominant win where the team played well.... everyone but Bayless and Martell. Martell not playing well is like saying "the nets suck" but Bayless needs Miller to come in the game with 8 minutes left cause he cant run the offense VS THE TWOLVES LOL? I mean are you kidding me? What happens when we play good teams? If theres one thing that could kill us in this race its him getting the backup PG minutes. Hes that bad. At SG hes ok, if he can ever hot a jumper but at PG... i think the experiment is over. Theres nothing left to see here. Hes not a pg on his best day. The blazers might wanna see which PGs are out there cause Bayless isnt even close to being the answer. That is shameful he made miller come back in. shameful. ITS THE FUCKING TWOLVES with a 20 point + lead. Man I love what camby brings us every night (well not his offense and butter fingers) but losing Blake hurts more then anyone has let on. if we have Blake I think we beat Utah and Chicago.

Alright Bayless lovers... please defend! Or try...

Bayless off the bench, Game 1 w/ Suns:

18pts on 60% FG's, 67% 3pt%, 4 rb, 1 ast in 20 minutes.

Doesn't seem shameful for pathetic to me.

Go Blazers

I love the never ending flow of proof to the lack of knowledge that flows through this guys dome! CLASSIC!
