Noah Vonleh - thoughts

As a clueless rookie, Leonard managed to get onto the court for over 1200 minutes.

Vonleh made it onto the court for 260. He wasn't even good enough to get minutes in garbage time.

I understand the need to find something to be hopeful about, but c'mon!

Don't you worry. We'll have plenty of garbage time this season.

He had surgery right before the season and missed training camp that put him behind which for an 18 year old rookie is a big thing. (See CJ except he was 22)

I get so excited by young players, always thinking they are going to be great. I think that again here. Usually, I'm proven wron, but I just can't help myself, I'm an optimist when in comes to Blazer young blood.

He looks so much like jamal mashburn physically.

Noah measures up favorably to LA while being two years younger.

It'll be interesting if we can get some updated numbers on Noah.

You know after looking at his stats. I can't help but think Thomas Robinson. If the end result of Noah Vonleh is equal to the end result of Thomas Robinson the day we traded him. I'm going to be disappointed.

I still think you could got more for Nic. Just another area I didn't feel Neil worked hard enough to get.

Vonleh is more polished offensively than Robinson. Noah has a better touch around the rim and is a better shooter. While he is not as explosive athletically as Robinson, he is slightly bigger and longer. I think he's going to have a much bigger impact here than T-Rob did, but we'll see. I can't wait to see him in summer league.

I think a lot of what stopped Thomas was more mental. There was something there that was keeping him down. As long as Noah doesn't have this problem. There should be incremental improvement each and every year.

I think you're right.

The mental aspect of the game is huge. Robinson's basketball IQ seemed kind of low. He had some good basketball instincts (good passer for a PF, great rebounder), but his decision making on the court was definitely lacking. I remember hearing reports that TRob couldn't remember all the plays and didn't know where to be on defense. So if Vonleh can figure out the game at the NBA level, I think he could eventually a very good starter on our team.

I'm starting to come to the same conclusion that others have earlier; that while Vonleh send to have all the tools, he simply doesn't know how to play the game, at least at the professional level.

I no longer expect anything from him this season, except significant team deficits when he plays.

Thomas Robinson.....so far Noah Vonleh looks like an unathletic Thomas Robinson.

Vonleh is a project. We'll need the virtue of patience with him, but I think he can be a border line All-star in a few years.

Idk. He shows little flashes. But the dude is like 19 like holy fuck he's a baby.

C.J. McCollum from two years ago chuckles at this thread.

People need to just let Vonleh mature and adjust to the speed of the game. He barely saw the floor as a very-young rookie and we're just seven games into the season. Not every good player dominates in their first three years, let alone Day 1. He's got tools. Give him time.

I concur. When I watch Vonleh play, I see him do all this great stuff that's thoroughly ineffective because he's always a half second early or late. Not that there's any guarantee that he'll ever adjust to the speed of the game, but it looks to me like he's worth waiting for.

Vonleh is super raw.

In their freshman year Vonleh and Randle were looked at as similar prospects - skilsets and body types.

The HUGE difference? Randle is an alpha dog. That's something that you can't teach.

Who watched Vonleh and Randle in college and thought they were similar players? The huge difference is they are not similar...at all.

Vonleh is/was/wanted to be a SF at one point; super athletic, great size and length. Very raw. In college, his game was hardly centered around his post game.

Julius "Zbo" Randle is the opposite of that. Not great length, not great athletic ability but wayyyyy better footwork than Noah and was way more of a grinder in the post. Scorer mentality.

Give Vonleh time; he is getting used to his body and true position. Julius Randle did that in college and before.

Vonleh doesn't seem "super athletic" at all to me.

Seen Vonleh with prime position, literally right under the basket - all he has to do is power up, yet, he decides to do a spin move??
Plays unsure, doesn't use his strength and hesitates.

Definitely needs a LOT of work.

Actually he is, he's just not allowed to really show off yet bc the coaches have made him concentrate on certain things/basics/not to do too much yet & he IS holding himself back bc he doesn't want to make mistakes; u can tell that he lacks confidence right now in his 3's & when he makes more athletic drives towards the rim (not surprised, I & I'm sure others expected this). He can jump decent for a big & every1 will see what athleticism some of us are talking about once he gets more comfortable; I promise in practice, our guys see Noah make some very impressive athletic plays (w/ regards to offense). I've said this a few times before, just as a few others have in here too, patience, Noah will be fine/a great addition/contributor to our team:-)
