One would think that hitting 50 HRs in a season would be a given for an MVP. But.....did you know that the 43 times that the 50 HR mark was reached it only resulted in 12 MVPs.

And taking it a step further the 55 or better HR mark has been reached 18 times & that numbered only garned 6 MVPs.

1921 - Babe Ruth 59 / 171 / 378 (No award given)
1927 - Babe Ruth 60 / 164 / 356 (award went to team mate Lou Gehrig 47 / 173 / 373) But here's the amazing thing, Ruth didn't even finish in the top 25.

1930 - Hack Wilson 56 / 191 / 356 (No award given)
1938 - Hank Greenberg 58 / 146 / 315 (award went to Jimmie Foxx 50 / 175 / 349
1997 - Mark McGwire - 58 / 123 / 274 (award was given to Larry Walker 49 / 130 / 366
1998 - Mark McGwire - 70 / 147 / 299 (Award went to Sammy Sosa 66 / 158 / 308
1998 - Ken Griffey - 56 / 146 / 284 (Award went to Juan Gonzalez 45 / 157 / 318
1999 - Mark McGwire - 65 / 147 / 278
1999 - Sammy Sosa - 63 / 141 / 288
Note: both McGwire & Sosa in 1999 lost out to Chipper Jones 45 / 110 / 319

2001 - Sammy Sosa - 64 / 160 / 328
2001 - Luis GonZalez - 57 / 142 / 325
Note: both Sosa & Gonzalez in 2001 lost out to Barry Bonds 73 / 137 / 328

2002 - Alex Rodriquez - 57 / 142 / 300 (Award went to M. Tejeda 34 / 131 / 308
