I don't know if the dog only likes to poop on the nicest parts to the lawn or if the poop is making the lawn nicer.

Meet the 'cat-fox,' a mysterious mammal found in Corsica that could be a new species

A feline once thought to be a myth has been identified on the French island of Corsica, according to wildlife officials. "The cat-fox is part of our shepherd mythology.

From generation to generation, they told stories of how the forest cats would attack the udders of their ewes and goats," Carlu-Antone Cecchini, the wildlife office's field agent in charge of forest cats, told AFP.

Researchers began tracking the population of elusive, nocturnal animals in 2008 when a cat-fox got caught in a chicken coop, French radio broadcaster Radio France Internationale reported.

Since then researchers have identified 16 cat-foxes on the island, the news outlet said, 12 of which have been captured, examined and released.

Wildlife officials were able to determine the animal's genetic makeup by studying traces of fur, Pierre Benedetti, chief environmental technician of the hunting and wildlife office, told the AFP.

"By looking at its DNA, we could tell it apart from the European wildcat, Felis silvestris silvestris. It's close to the African forest cat, Felis silvestris lybica, but its exact identity is still to be determined," Benedetti said.

The cat-fox's diet, reproductive patterns and exact origin are still a mystery, but Benedetti hypothesized the animal may have been brought to Corsica by farmers around 6500 B.C.

“If this hypothesis is confirmed, it's origin would be considered Middle Eastern," Benedetti told French radio. "Ultimately, we would like to see this cat recognized and protected.”

Organic White Cheddar Doritos are the very best kind of Doritos ever invented (so far), FYI.
Thanks for the tip but I like plain Doritos which I use with Emerald Valley salsa, the best commercial salsa I've ever had. We doctor up the salsa a tad with extra jalapeno and sweet yellow onion. Wash that down with a favorite ice cold beer and you're in nirvana, my friend. You may thank me later.

Portland doesn't have a daily paper.

I'm pretty sure they were referring to the O back in the day. I just thought it kind of humorous. I think they drew a lot of homeless, and/or less fortunate folks.

Climber falls to death from Matterhorn in Switzerland

Guides say mountain ‘too dangerous’
By Stephen Sorace | Fox News

A South Korean man has become the seventh climber this year to fall to their death on the Matterhorn peak in Switzerland as guides continue to call on officials to close the mountain for being “too dangerous.”

The unidentified climber had been ascending the mountain with a fellow South Korean on Tuesday when he decided to turn around and head toward the base. When the climber reached a height of around 12,140 feet during his descent, he fell about 656 feet to his death, officials said.

Officials dispatched a helicopter to bring the other climber down the mountain.

Valais regional police said Wednesday they are investigating the death.

The climber’s death comes nearly two weeks after two men, one of them a mountain guide, were hit by a falling rock in the upper reaches of the mountain and fell. In June, a 24-year-old British climber fell to his death after a chunk of rock came loose during his descent.

Swiss guides have told local media that the highest and most famous peak in the Swiss Alps has become “too unstable and therefore too dangerous” for tourists to climb, The Local Switzerland reported.

Meanwhile, Swiss officials have told local news outlets there are currently no plans to close the mountain to climbers, according to Local Switzerland.

Raphaël Mayoraz, head of the natural hazards department in the canton of Valais, called closing the mountain “a laughable idea,” while Zermatt commune president Romy Biner said that officials “can’t take responsibility for everything,” the outlet reported.

Mayoraz noted the mountain’s instability at higher altitudes and said that authorities should ensure climbers are aware of the dangers of the mountain, Local Switzerland reported.
