I just got back from my first ever visit to Oregon. Thoughts:
- I got a speeding ticket for going 77 mph on the highway about 15 minutes past the CA-OR border. I was unaware that the speed limit was 55 everywhere besides I-5, which was my fault. As a born and bread Californian I'm still ticked that they won't let you haul ass on a two lane highway in the middle of nowhere, but I also soon realized the general pace of life (and traffic) is much, much slower in Oregon and quite refreshing as long as you're not in a rush to get anywhere.
- I can probably count the number of non-white people I saw on one hand. Actually didn't notice this for a while until my dad brought it up. I never actually got to Portland though FWIW.
- Bend is super fuggin cool. Sort of like a mix of Tahoe and Santa Cruz. I'm trying to think of the last time I went to a city within the U.S. and thought to myself how nice it would be to live there for a few years, but Bend totally had that effect on me.
- Not only was all of the scenery gorgeous, the 75-85 degree weather was better than anything we've had in San Francisco/the peninsula all summer. I think its cracked 75 here maybe two times.
- I have a much better understanding of how some of the posters on this board came to be the way they are now LOL.
Overall it was really cool. Gotta hit Portland at some point and stay in Bend for longer, not to mention explore some of the many lakes, rivers, mountains, etc.
