^^^^ So Portland only has $150,000 they can add to any other trade until after the season. (Assuming it is still $3M per year total you can add in $$)

What's not to like?

Not counting the draft picks...

Bye bye, Festus and we're ~$9M over the LT. The tax bill is much less, if PA/NO wants to pay it.

I would think Ed Davis and maybe Aminu are likely to go.

Nurkic is going to bang with Leonard in practice. Keep an eye on that.

Chad Doing on with Ryan Edwards from Denver re the Nukic trade:

Offense was designed around Jokic and it didn't really mesh with Nurkic. Jokic is more like Plumlee in terms of skills with better offensive skills. Nukic is more of a low-post threat and it didn't fit their scheme.

There was some concern about his attitude and part of that can come from not getting minutes so that is not unheard of. He didn't like not getting to play in every game. There where also some questions about his work ethic but there is a lot of raw potential and he showed that in his rookie year. He was the best defensive big on the Nuggets but it was his offense that was behind what Jokic gave. Nukic could be a good fit in Portland if they can run some offensive things around his strengths. Nurkic was also brought in under Brian Shaw and that just didn't fit what coach Malone wanted.

Plumlee gives them the ability to have the 'right kind of center' on the floor for the full game. They have adopted the approach of not playing any defense and Plumlee fits into that and also into their offensive scheme. Plumlee will be the backup but will also overlap with Jokic for around 10-12 minutes per game.

Chad asked about 'Papa' Nurkic.

Edwards: He is one bad dude and is a GIANT man. If I met him in an alley, I'd just lay down in the fetal position.

No, it's $3.5 million this year and goes up to $3.6 million for 2017-18, which officially starts on July 1..

But, we gave ORL "cash considerations" for Shabazz Napieer last July 7. I haven't been able to find out how much cash we sent out in that deal, but if this $2.285 million number is true, I'm going to guess $650,000.

So, unless we used some of it previously, we have $650,000 left to spend.

Thanks for the clarification. Wasn't sure it was still $3M.

I did some more snooping, and the actual dates for using the cash considerations are July 1, 2016 - June 30, 2017. So, the $1.2 million we gave ORL on June 23, 2016 in the Layman trade counted toward last season's limit, but whatever cash considerations we gave them in the Napier deal on July 7, 2016 counts toward this years limit.

So any pre-Draft or Draft day deals can't include cash considerations unless they don't go through until after July 1st.....which with someone like Crabbe, might make sense.

Crabbe also has veto power on any trade before July 7, the one year anniversary of us matching BRK's offer sheet.

From bleacher report Nurk won't play tonight hopefully Wes. At the start Nurk will come off the bench but can earn a starting spot. So Myers it your job to loose to Nurk. If you want to be the starter you need to show up and play like you know what's your doing. Now Nurk don't hold your head down if you want to get the starting job go out and beat out Myles.

Sigh. Was hoping to see the big guy at least play a few minutes. But it's been a hectic 24 hours for him, so it's understandable.

Meyers vs. Howard......gee, wonder who's gonna win that match-up....

Best case scenario Meyers starts a fight and they both get tossed.

I kind of feel like that's the real reason Stotts plays Meyers against players that like to bang in the post.

Apparently Will Barton gave Nurkic the nickname of "Punisher".

Nurkic can get to the basket against literally anyone, so that's a good nickname. Seriously, theres not one center in the league he can't back down in the post.

I had 2 reactions:

1) Jokic is similar to Plumlee--good passer, which pulls him away from rebounding. But Jokic shoots a higher percentage. So Plumlee will only back him up, seek a starting job in the summer, abandon the Nuggets with nothing to show, and make us the winner of the trade. If I'm wrong and Plumlee stays with Jokic (as a power forward?), then Denver won the trade.

2) Look at the standings and you see a Nugget strategic reason for the trade: We're their only competition for the #8 playoff spot...taking our center creates breathing room for their playoff hopes. We are now shallow at center, while for a few months until Plumlee leaves, they are exceptionally deep.

So I read the whole thread, and found these posts related to my thoughts.

Conspiracy theory: part of the trade agreement was that the Blazers drop out of the playoffs race.
Love the value, but it's honestly an odd trade (for both sides). It'll be interesting to see how much Denver offers Plumlee this summer...it has to be 16mil+

I think he fits Denver's style pretty well as a back-up center too, but I find it hard to see him playing more than 15-20 min a game for them, unless they think he can play with Jokic, which I highly doubt. Just don't think a backup center is worth that kind of money.
From the Nuggets' standpoint, a center rotation of Jokic & Plumlee is pretty damned solid. They have Jokic on a cheap rookie contract for two more years and plenty of salary room so they can afford to pay Plumlee next summer. Not sure if they see Plums as the starter for the rest of this season, but I think that rotation puts them in the driver's seat for the 8th playoff spot this year.
I think there's some potential for Plumlee playing power forward next to Jokic, at least against larger opposing frontcourts. You don't want Plumlee chasing around a small-ball power forward, but against an LaMarcus Aldridge or Taj Gibson, I think he'd do fine defensively. And Plumlee should mesh well with Jokic offensively, as both are very good passers and Plumlee doesn't require a certain area to work, like Nurkic worked out of the low post. I could see Plumlee starting at power forward in some match-ups and backing up Jokic against other teams.
I wonder if DEN starts Mase at the 4 next to Jokic. We never really got to see Mase at the 4 which is the only thing I regret. I'd love to see Mase find himself on a team with DJ type player at the 5 so that he can start at PF. I think Plumlee would have a lot of success in that situation. He can't shoot or finish as well as Blake Griffin, but he is close to or as athletic and is probably a better playmaker/passer than Griffin.
