one word: "disgusting" - not the shooting itself but the apologists who defend these animals as well as lie for them. moreover, i can't believe these animals are still on the payroll, enjoying the government cheese while assigned to a desk job. the reassuring part of the story is bloomberg's courage in taking on these animals, a far cry from guilani's (sp.) cover-up mode.

Why not first degree? If you're shooting at a car 50 times, you have intent to kill. That has to be pre-meditated.

No, pre-meditated means that you had "planned" it hours or days beforehand. In other words, a heat of the moment exchange where maybe you thought you saw a gun or whatever, and you reacted, even though you intended to kill, is not pre-meditated. Pre-meditated is like you had the whole thing planned for a couple of days and displays a more sick mind in the eyes of the law than someone who just "snapped".

I know what pre-meditated means, I just think you can't decide to shoot over 50 times in a car without some sort of planning. It's ridiculous, I can't imagine people snapping this bad.

I saw the guy's wife on Larry King Live a week or two ago, and from what I understood the policeman wasn't in uniform and didn't identify himself before pulling out his weapon.

While a single person didn't fire 50 shots, one veteran officer emptied two full magazines, firing 31 shots and pausing to reload at least once.

thats a laughably absurd deduction. first, lamenting the act itself is crying over spilt milk, cause unfortunately i can't bring sean bell back. since u claim to be familiar with american history, here's a refresher for u: http://www.commondreams.org/headlines01/0428-04.htm. in case u were curious, african americans make up 17% of the american population and that figure is declining every year with hispanics moving in, hence all the talk about disproportional numbers in the article. thirdly, i think we all abhor the act (irrespective if race), its kinda part of the human condition to take such a stance. although, my purpose is to prevent arbitrary exercises of forces by the men in blue in the future. lastly, to avoid race in policing or any other matter in america for that matter is avoiding the perennial problem. here's the analogy: donald watson has to run the 100 metre dash in 4 weeks but he's 15 pounds over-weight(race). clearly if donald aspires to do well, he'll lose the bulge (challenge the status quo) but if he's content with just completing the race, he'll maintain the status quo with his weight.

However, I doubt the car would have been shot 50 times if there were two white men/women inside. There's a huge chance it's a race crime.

fyi-a white cop is the one who did the bulk of the shooting, plus, according to the reports- the other police officers returned fire against that cop. and i believe- all the shooters were white (so the two i guess) as well.

you forgot the hot-white-young-female victimhood. notice the media circus that happens when one of these people is killled. is their life any more valuable than a black man's? obviously no.
