Now that's funny. Really sad and pathetic on the part of Oregonians, but funny

Not really sure that Dudley was a better candidate for governor than Kitzhaber was.

Kitzhaber never won in the first round and his team always played slow. Also he mismanaged future HOF players like Sergio, Bayless, Batum and Dudley.

Yeah, but Dudley has never coached an NBA team before. Or been an assistant Governor for that matter. Or even a community organizer.

Shit Earl Barron put up 17/18 against the Celtics last year for the NYK

Yea, well he has headed a union so Kitz should have just trusted him the gig! :ghoti:

Well that sucks and I hope the best for Oberto.

Well, at least if we are going to have a rash of injuries again this season, perhaps they will all strike the bottom of the bench instead of the best players like last season. I would rather have a end of bench rook and fill-in elderly center than Roy, Oden, Joel, Batum ....

Wonder how this will effect Rudy's attitude.

I am glad he made that choice, lost a grandfather to the same issue, and my own father had pulmonary ablation (same procedure Oberto had a few years back) also to correct advanced atrial fibrillation. Partly because he is in his 60's, but also due to the nature of the procedure, he is physically a totally changed man (for the worse) after the procedure... very hard on the system and I was having a hard time understanding how Oberto did the same thing.

Me... I am lucky and only have "mild" cardiac dysrhythmia, hopefully I won't ever have to go through that process.

Sucks for us, but really, we don't need a player dying on the court, if it was a concern for his doctor and family, I am glad he did it.

I thought he was an adequate backup. He didn't make huge mistakes, he tended to knock people around, and he rebounded the ball. Can't ask for much more. It's really too bad that he had to retire. He was a decent stop-gap until Joel or Greg comes back.

Bummer. I thought Fabricio was doing a decent job for us. I agree he made the right decision though and I wish him the best.

Why am I so worried about somebody going down with an injury tonight???

Of course I blame our medical staff for Oberto's condition.

Because you're wounded, like the rest of us.

I think it was just today i heard on the game that Joel thinks he is ready to go 10-12 minutes a game but the staff wants him to take it slow.

Maybe they should give him that 10 mins a game now.

Wow, Fab. Props: http://ken-berger.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/11838893/25663550

No one was happy to hear the news that Blazers forward Fabricio Oberto decided to retire Thursday due to a recurring heart condition. Known wherever he's been as a great teammate, Oberto proved it once again on his way out of Portland.

When a player suffers a season- or career-ending medical condition, he's entitled to receive every dollar he's due. But Oberto, 35, didn't go that route. In fact, after discussing his medical issues with Blazers officials, doctors and his agent, Oberto agreed to sign an addendum to his contract converting it from guaranteed to non-guaranteed.

In fact, he insisted on it, said Oberto's agent, Herb Rudoy.

"He just absolutely was adamant when we talked about it," Rudoy said Thursday night. "He didn’t feel it was correct to be there for a week and get paid for the season."

So the Blazers will put Oberto, a 2007 NBA champion with the Spurs, on waivers Friday and will be able to use most of his $854,389 salary to put towards a big man to replace him -- at least until Greg Oden and/or Joel Pryzbilla return from injuries. It may not seem like a lot by NBA standards, but remember to double it because the Blazers are paying luxury tax. Pretty generous parting gift from a guy who logged a total of 45 minutes over five games with the Blazers.

That'a a very classy move by Fabricio, very cool

A class move by Oberto. Compare that with Nick Van Exel or Darius Miles.

Let's retire Oberto's #!!!

Wait...does anyone know what # he wore?

without looking?

What a totally class move by Fab. Why can't more NBA players be like this? No wonder this guy was so well liked everywhere he played. He's just a good guy. And while he made good money compared to the average Joe, it's not like he ever had a huge contract by NBA standards. There are 18 players in the league that will make more this season than Oberto made in his entire NBA career, and yet he gave back almost $900,000 that was his for the taking.

Paul Allen paid Shawn Kemp over $27 million for two years after he was waived by the team. Kemp basically cost the Blazers $100 million in salary and luxury tax for less than two very mediocre seasons in Portland. We all know about Darius Miles and the $9 million per year in salary he continued to cost the Blazers four years after the last game he played for the team. And then there was Derek Anderson who, at one point was being paid by three different teams to NOT play basketball (including nearly $10 million from Portland).

I wish Oberto the best. He obviously made the right decision and followed it up with an extremely ethical, classy move.
