...was anyone there?!

At the beginning of the march, police estimated the crowd at about 4,000, but it reached critical mass at Pioneer Courthouse Square by mid-day. The square -- which holds about 10,000 people -- was elbow-to-elbow full with people spilling out onto surrounding streets.

"We didn't expect this big of a turnout. New York started organizing in January; we started two weeks ago," said 20-year-old Ivy Knight, one of the organizers.

This is why protests are lame

I would have gone, but I really don't want to be there if shit goes down. The last thing I need is a picture of myself getting beat up by cops.

what about a picture of you beating up a cop? or maybe plank the portlandia statue?

being there when shit goes down is the only reason I'd go to something so stupid.

Have no fear, I am here. I'll pertect all you lil fellers!

Planking the Portlandia statue would be quite an accomplishment. That shit is way up there.

its all about Owling now

It's fantastic when a 20 year-old is organizing such an event. With that kind of rich life experience and deep world view, it makes for a perfect leader to find solutions to the problems of government and life.

A liberal organizer told the Daily Caller on Thursday afternoon that he paid some Hispanics to attend “Occupy DC” protests happening in the nation’s capital.

TheDC attended the protest event, an expansion of the “Occupy Wall Street” movement that began in New York City. Some aspects of the protest, it turned out, are more Astroturf than grassroots.

One group of about ten Hispanic protesters marched behind a Caucasian individual from the DC Tenants Advocacy Coalition, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting rent control in Washington, D.C.

Asked why they were there, some Hispanic protesters holding up English protest signs could not articulate what their signs said.

Interviewed in Spanish, the protesters told conflicting stories about how their group was organized. Some said it was organized at their church, and that they were there as volunteers. Others, however, referred to the man from the DC Tenants Advocacy Coalition — the only Caucasian in the group — as their “boss.”

TheDC asked that organizer whether he was paying the group to attend the protest, and he conceded that some protesters “aren’t” volunteers.

0:39 haha

I'm in favor of people going to protests, and believing what they say..but it wasn't until they started the interview with the guy with the gray jacket that I started to take it somewhat seriously.

Once his interview ended, I started to feel like I was watching a bunch of hippies basically chanting crap at something, while smoking pot.

Hell, with videos like this it's no wonder lots of people think they're misguided kids who are too lazy to work.

They definitely need to work on their chants.

that was like trying to see a bunch of white people trying to keep rhythm at a dance.

There's a possible sexual assault... but no victim has come forward?

I don't see how that adds up.

Ed O.

perp turned himself in?
assault caught on videotape, victim unknown?

Many rape/sexual assault victims don't come forward.

I read that some of the protesters around the country are being paid by the unions to do this.

On the other hand, I am sure most are not. As to the protest itself, so long as they don't loot & pillage, I'm all for it. It's time to get riled up over a LOT of things and people need to make it known they will no longer accept the status quo.

I would bet most protests have their groups that are paid rabble rowsers.

Wow, look at that diversity! I thought I saw a few people with brown eyes and perhaps a Catholic!

First of all, what does a catholic look like? I know several dozen of them and I can't think of a discerning common feature.

Second, I see the same faces that stopped a war and unseated a criminal president in the 60's/70's. If minorities are largely apathetic or lack the backbone to stand up for themselves, shame on them.

Pretty sure there aren't a lot of non-whites in Portland. If Portland has a protest, it is going to look white. Doesn't mean much.
