Portland was about 80% white in 2010 according to the census.

And yeah, Maris, minorities lack backbone to stand up for themselves. That's it. Good call there.
 
I dont get any of this shit and how its going to change anything....Seems like its just another reason for lazy ass people who have never applied themselves to rally. Sure the economy's fucked up, but this isnt going to do anything. Oh, and I'm about as liberal as it gets, for the record.

There is no indication in the charter how such figures were calculated, but perhaps a help wanted ad that appeared this week on Craigslist provides a clue. The ad was placed by the Working Families Party, the far-left outfit that fields candidates in local New York elections and is actively involved in staging and promoting the OWS movement. Job-seekers are assured the WFP offers training in "advocacy, public speaking, mobilizing, fundraising, networking and organizing," not to advance "a policy position" but in the service of "direct action." Besides the training and a "full benefits package," those hired will be paid between $350 and $650 per week, according to the ad.

I think it's great.

This is how things get changed. When politicians on both sides understand they people are refusing to accept politics as usual, we will start seeing the left & right working more together, finding new solutions rather than the same old mistakes.....

I say go for it! Just be civil.

they may be part of the "1%", but I don't know that I'd call the owners "minorities." Maybe Jordan.

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) - Portland police cleared the way on Southwest Main Street this morning, arresting eight Occupy Portland protesters who refused to remove their blockade.

Mayor Sam Adams and police asked for the protesters' cooperation in getting the street reopened earlier this week, but the group held its ground until police officers moved in at 6 a.m.

The eight protesters were taken into custody on charges of disorderly conduct and interfering with a peace officer, both misdemeanors.

"We've been really clear. We want these roads open so traffic can move through the downtown core," said Lt. Robert King.

There is something inherently sad about these protests. They don't resemble protests from the 60s, 70s, or even 80s when people were frustrated by meaningless repetitive work. No, this is far worse. This is a return to the pre-Industrial Revolution days when the masses protested for the right to work, any work, no matter how menial. We now live in a society that has a giant chasm between the haves and have-nots, something that was perhaps temporarily bridged during the 1950s to 1980s. Some of you may scoff and label them lazy, but I have a feeling few (if any) of you realize how unemployable you'll be if you lose your jobs in this economy.

In 2009, I lost my Fortune 500 corporate job in Atlanta after 20 years of being with the company. From there, I took a commission sales (something I had absolutely no familiarity/experience with) job with a windows and doors company here in the Portland area.

The longer I'm with the company, the more I'm enjoying it. I still have a long ways to go, but I think it will support me through the rest of my working years.

Those "occupy wherever" people keep saying our manufacturing base is dead. I bet you guys make your own windows.

mocking the diversity of Portland's occupy crowd seems an empty commentary coming from someone who has consistently trumpeted the tea party gatherings. Pretty obvious why all the right wing folks here have their panties in a bunch and are sniping at this massive grassroots movement. When do the cops take the gloves off and start beating stinky hippy ass right?
