If the OSW'ers truly want the rich to pay their fair share, then the tax code needs to be changed.

simple. as. that.

fringe /frinj/

Adjective: Any idea or belief that is not part of the Denny's world view despite having mainstream or widespread support.

See "Undennysque"

I haven't criticized OWS even once.

Calling them "fleabaggers" isn't critical?

No. It's a reference to the conditions they're squatting under, and a play on people calling the tea party people "teabaggers.". Good for the goose, good for the gander.

It sounds like you're straining to do some explaining.

Hardly. Did you find my post that said I was all in favor of people protesting? It's in one of these OWS threads.

I think the tea party was far more effective by arguing with their representatives at town hall meetings. The press is a lot friendlier toward the OWS people. And generally, the OWS people are causing problems that the TP never did - from harming local businesses to destruction of property, to straining the municipalities infrastructure and budgets, to committing a number of petty crimes.

But it's ok to call the TP folks racist and other mean things. I get it.

Those sounds like criticisms of OWS. I'm just saying, contrary to your claim you have criticized the OWS movement. Some of the criticism are valid though.

Did you ever call the Tea Party "Tea Baggers"?

I've criticized the Tea Partiers but I haven't called them "racist". To imply all criticism of the TP are based on racism is disingenuous.

I think it's constructive to scrutinize political movements like this but from and educated view point (not saying yours isn't). The author of that graphic certainly seems to be clueless of what OWS is.

Without getting names/addresses of all these Wall-Street/big bank execs, how will camping out @ a city park change anything?

It's November 3rd and it's still the same story.

Oh wait, BoA will no longer charge $5 for debit cards use.

Progress!

I posted the joke about them being called fleaparty once, and now I'm critical of them?

There are tens of thousands of protesters nationwide. No two appear to have the same agenda, though they're pissed about the banks getting bailouts and top 1% accumulating wealth.

What's to criticize? They're angry. If anything, I think their anger is misplaced. It's govt. that's the problem.

A Portland Fleabagger threw a Portland police officer in front of a Tri-Met bus and ran away like a coward until he was found. Stay tuned, because our media didn't find it to be more newsworthy than a simple sentence at the end of the segment.

Fuck 'em where they breathe. David Burgess, you're on watch, son.

stop being racist. that is obviously a teabagger plant.

This. A perfect example of right wing talking points. Delightfully misinformed and largely inaccurate portrayal of OWS.

My favorite response:

bunch of spoiled kids who have everything handed to them on a silver platter. And they have the nerve to complain! None of them ever seem to have a job, they all have credit cards and debit cards from their parents that pay for everything, they’re loaded down with expensive electronics and the latest fashions, and it’s party party party or protest protest protest all the time, while a lax grading system gives them a 4.1 GPA for doing practically no learning. I have to clench my teeth just to endure being around them. (I must exempt the Asian students from this diatribe; the ones who are in the hard sciences, math and engineering — that is to say, most of them — do study day and night, and earn their grades. Hate to get all racial, but it’s the truth; the white students are just a bunch of self-aggrandized lazy entitled whiners by comparison.)

more of this please!

That's a retarded after the fact over-reaction that defaces the monument.

In light of "tent city" there behind it (and whatever yayhoos thereabouts), no it's not.

I went and visited the area as I had business downtown. The smell of urine, bad body order and weed was almost choking. There was filth everywhere. The garbage receptacles aren't used much. There's been theft and one woman was raped in there. In general, I have no problems with protesting, but this is becoming less protesting and more an area of lawlessness. I think it's time for the police to tear it down.

outside of the rape thing, you can find that in a lot of places in downtown Portland, and portions of the rest of Portland.

Apparently you never went to the park before OP started.

That's the typical state of any Portland Park at any time.

All I heard is that a sexual assault with no victim was being investigated.

KATU story
Police said no victim has been identified and the allegation has not been substantiated. Police are working with representatives from Occupy Portland to figure out if the assault actually happened, according to Sergeant Pete Simpson.

Officers were flagged down Friday night at 11:15 p.m. at SW 5th Avenue and Main Street by protesters, Simpson said. Officers learned a woman may have been sexually assaulted in a tent in the square, but she did not want to be identified.

It is disingenuous to say that there was a rape at occupy portland if you are basing it off of this story. Is there any other evidence that there was a rape?

As far as the smell, it is really bad. No, it's not like the smell at other Portland parks, it is a thick permafunk of extreme body odor and festering trash. I have to walk through the park a few days a week while on the way to my genetics class, and every time the smell has gotten progressively worse.

Was going to go to Occupy LA, but no fucking Valet Parking. :(

mocking the diversity of Portland's occupy crowd seems an empty commentary coming from someone who has consistently trumpeted the tea party gatherings. Pretty obvious why all the right wing folks here have their panties in a bunch and are sniping at this massive grassroots movement. When do the cops take the gloves off and start beating stinky hippy ass right?

STOMP

I'm glad you got the point. The "occupy" protests are even more homogenous than the Tea Party ones the Left pilloried.

Enter: The Molotov Cocktail

:MARIS61:

http://www.portlandonline.com/police/pbnotify.cfm?action=ViewContent&content_id=2587

Tonight, Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 9:10 p.m. Portland Police officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to a call of a Molotov Cocktail being set off at the World Trade Center, 121 Southwest Salmon.
Arson investigators have been called to the scene and as it is an active and ongoing investigation no additional details are available at this time.

On Monday October 31, 2011 Portland Police received unconfirmed information that a person or people within the Occupy Portland encampments at Chapman and Lownsdale Square Parks may be constructing or have constructed Molotov Cocktails.

Generally, a Molotov cocktail is a glass bottle filled with a flammable liquid such as gasoline, with a rag or cloth sticking out of the bottle as a wick. Once the wick is ignited, the person holding the Molotov cocktail throws it, breaking the glass and spreading the ignited fluid.

While it's important to note that this information about Molotov Cocktails being kept in Occupy Portland is unconfirmed, Portland Police Bureau investigators are working to learn more about this information and are asking for the public's help.

Given they were saving feces to throw at the police, I wouldn't doubt it.
